 Furtive Flyers by hfallyn

Lennies are well-known for their great love of learning. For knowledge on all subjects, they are always yearning. When they’re heads aren’t stuck in a dusty old tome, They’re often found solving puzzles and riddles at home. Many a Neopian resoundingly believes This feathered species the ground never leaves. That those broad, feathered wings are merely for show, A safe, guarded place where their writing quills stow. They’re not like the Draiks or the Shoyrus so keen For their midair acrobatics and soaring to be seen. Why the rare mention of a Lenny brave and daring indeed Is Lightning Lenny renowned for running at super speed. Yes, Neopians are quite sure Lennies are a flightless band, Much preferring the ground and its smooth, steady land. Well, take it from me, these brainiacs are sly, For I saw, clear as day, one take to the sky. Not a fortnight ago, at half past three On a walk through Neopia Central did I surely see A hungry Kad loose from the Kadoatery Was woefully stuck high up the Money Tree. I searched across piles of donations for a rope, a ladder, Something to save the poor Petpet from disaster, When along came a Lenny, a rolled-up scroll under-wing Who screeched to a halt at sight of the poor, dreadful thing. The Lenny looked left then right, making sure it was just us. After a second the mewing Kad did continue to fuss, And so with a reluctant sigh the Lenny sprung up and took flight. Wings spread, feathers flapping, it was truly quite a sight. An easy trip up and a smooth return to the mound, He set the rescued Kad down gently upon the ground. I stared, eyes wide, mind all a shuffle. As he smugly shook off his feathers with a gentle ruffle. I opened my mouth, my question a soft plea. “Lennies fly? All of you? How? How can this be?” And why that clever, feathered fiend off did he slink. Leaving me with nothing but a knowing smile and a wink.
