The Second Lost City

by RDMUnicorn

Many rumors have been flying around about the strange Blumaroo found dying of thirst in the desert. One of these was of particular interest to me.

The Blumaroo claims to have found a Lost City other than Sakhmet. A city that holds many secrets to be unlocked, and when unlocked these secrets lead to tenfold more riches than in Sakhmet. Many do not believe in this, for the Blumaroo had gone insane. I , for one, trust a fellow NeoPets judgment. That is why I intend on finding this city and being remembered in Neopian history as the one who found the Second City.

Kahamote the Red Shoyru shut his journal and stared out at the vast golden dunes of the lost desert. His Younger Brother, Shoyrumer the Blue Shoyru, turned to Kahamote and hugged him as the brothers bid farewell. Tears welled up in both of their eyes as they stared at each other; perhaps for the last time.

"No matter if you return or not, I will be waiting here. I am prouder than any other NeoPet to have such a brave brother; Words can't describe my pride. Brother, seek out this city and we will build a mansion where I place this stick so that all will know what a marvelous quest you have had. Farewell dear brother! I will be waiting," Shoyrumer cried.

Kahamote nodded and said, "I will return with a map to the lost city, and we will build this mansion, I swear it!"

With those final words Kahamote mounted his camel and rode away to find the Second City.

Shoyrumer dug a stick into the ground and tied a bright red scarf to it. He turned and watched his brave brother ride away into the sunset.

"Farewell Brother, 'till we meet again..." Shoyrumer murmured before turned around and walking back to camp.

Three days I have been traveling, and still no sign of this Second City. I am using a riddle with the directions to the second city that was written by the crazy Blumaroo. It read:

Turn toward the sunset bright,
dare not go into the cave of light.
Instead turn to the hot hot south,
enter the read eared monster's mouth.
Here you will find the city bright,
that will make the rest of your days happy and light!

The first stanza is simple: Head west it says! The second line has me stumped, so the rest of the poem is useless unless I can find the cave of light. All my studies could not of prepared me for this!

Kahamote stared further unto the west from the camp he had made before glaring at the riddle. It had a hole in it. The Blumaroo had made this for a reason. It was right between read and eared. Why had the crazy Blumaroo done that?

Fifteen days in the desert. My water and food supplies have begun to diminish quickly. I have 2/5 of it left. That is not good. I am lessening my rations. That hole in the riddle puzzles me. I still have no reason in my head as of why the Blumaroo did this. Ahh well, Maybe sleep will supply the answer!

Kahamote lay down on the soft sand facing west. They sun had hidden behind a strange arch that looked like a hollow cave with light in it. The Cave of Light!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twenty days
I've found the cave of light. Evidently it was an stone formations in the shape of an arch and when the sun was shining from within it it looked like a cave with lights in it. It had many traps within it, which I had discovered by rolling a marble through it. I turned south and have already seen the monsters many miles away. I have no food left, but I'm sure there's a well at the city when I find it. I feel as though I'm about ready to go insane from the lack of water!

10 Days later from that entry a dehydrated Kahamote reached the monsters. They were ancient carvings of stone. One of them was so scary that Kahamote readily feared it. The other had red ears and a friendly smile upon it's face. It was this one Kahamote entered.

35th day. I've found the City! It has a well and everything!!!! Hahahahahah!!

Kahamote drunk greedily from the "city's well", which was actually a hallucination created by Kahamote. His hysterical laughter was what attracted the gypsies that were traveling through the desert.

Shoyrumer had been waiting faithfully for his brothers return, but was not expecting him to return insane through all he's been through. Kahamote had given Shoyrumer the riddle saying: "Visit the ancient city of Kahamote and see the ancient people of it! Hahahaha!"

"Visit the ancient city of Kahamote and see the ancient people of it! Hahahaha!"

Shoyrumer had noticed the hole and visited the Blumaroo, who had become quite sane.

"Ah... yes here's the missing piece!'" said the Blumaroo. The riddle now read:

Turn toward the sunset bright,
dare not enter the cave of light.
Instead turn to the hot hot south,
The friendly monster leads to the oasis of the south.
But Enter the readily feared monster's mouth.
Here you will find the city bright,
That will make the rest of your days happy and light!

Kahamote had entered the wrong monster's mouth!

Epilogue:
With new inspiration Shoyrumer took Kahamote's journal and the fixed riddle and found the Second Lost City. He had become so rich that he built a mansion behind the stick that he had put in the ground the day that Kahamote had set out. Kahamote's insanity soon was fixed, and the brothers lived in the great mansion together, just has Shoyrumer had predicted. Here, in the Lost Desert, they had many adventures. But those are stories for another time.
