sister, Elekbolt
A cold, miserable day in Neopia it was, a huge storm raging overhead.
A young girl no more than 13 turned the corner of a building and looked
up ahead.
"Shelter!" she thought. And shelter it was. A shelter for the abandoned
creatures in the land. Abandoned by the cruel hearted owners of Neopia
who wanted no more of their pets. But Ivy, our little girl, thought only
of it as a way of getting out of the terrible weather.
She pulled on the door which read "In". Locked. She grumbled something
under her breath and looked for anyone inside. A grumpy old lady scowled
at her and opened the door. Ivy pulled a sympathetic face but the cold-hearted
lady's face did not budge. She moved by a bit to let Ivy through to the
indoors, for she, herself, was getting cold and damp by the rain.
Ivy looked around as she shivered. This place was painted all grey with
bare walls and only two doors and a desk. Ivy saw that not only was that
grumpy lady there but also a Blumaroo! Two signs hung from each sides,
one reading "Adopt" in nice, bold lettering with a cute border and the
other saying "Abandon" on a crumpled, reused piece of paper.
"Why were you out in the rain girl?" snarled the old woman. Ivy noted
that she wore Purple Eyeshadow and Lipstick of the same colour, probably
trying to make a better image of herself.
"I got lost on my way to a relative's house. She lives 'round here."
Ivy whimpered.
"Do you know where 'here' is, girl? And your name?" the lady grumbled.
"My name's Ivy. And I don't know where this is, Miss," Ivy cried.
"Ms. Worley to you, Ivy," Ms. Worley put on a crooked smile, "I suppose
you will be stuck here a while. Would you like to see the pets?"
"The what?" thought Ivy, but she followed anyway. They both walked through
a door reading "Them" and Ivy got her first look at "the pets". She had
known what a Blumaroo looked like because her Aunt had one named
Sourgarcilla. But Ivy didn't know there were this many abandoned! And
with such cruel names! Such cutie pies with offending names.
"Why are they in dirty cages?" Ivy pondered. She noticed she had talked
aloud because many heads turned from inside the cages to look at her with
pleading eyes for freedom. Ivy put on her sympathetic face again but really
meant it this time.
"The poor things," she thought. She saw that there were groups of pets;
the cages were put by specie. She passed the Acaras, Aisha, Blumaroo,
Bruce, Buzz, Chia, Cybunny, Elephante, and then Ivy saw them. Two small,
yellow, bright-eyed Kacheeks in a cage together. They were identical.
Ivy walked up to the cage and read the tag.

Twin Female Kacheeks
"I wouldn't waste time looking at them," snarled Ms Worley, "They've
been here since they were born," Ivy, startled, whipped around. She whimpered,
looking at the towering Ms. Worley over her, and looked back at the poor
creatures in the cages. She had to save them somehow…someday…

The storm settled down and Ivy set out again, leaving the poor, caged
pets behind. She had a new quest now, a quest to save those pets left
in the pound with Ms Worley. But to do that she had to become a member
of Neopia, signing form after form after form! Ug…but it was worth it.
Ivy thought of those huge eyes staring at her clearly pleading "HELP US".
Ivy walked up to city hall and asked how to become a townsperson of Neopia.
The lady squeaked "Right this way…" and showed Ivy a room in which many
people were filling out only one, simple form. Ivy thought to herself,
"Wow. I'll be back to save those twin Kacheeks in no time at all!"
She sat down next to a young girl who looked around the same age as herself.
Her hair hung in pigtails and she turned her head to look at Ivy herself.
"I am Chall," she said, and stuck out her hand, "Have you a user name
for yourself? I have not!"
Ivy shook her head in agreement. She hadn't thought of that! Her Aunt had
a name too, one that the people in Neopia called her. What would hers
be?
"You finish form?" Chall asked. Ivy nodded and looked down to review
her paper again. Finished.
"Where does it go?" Ivy asked. Chall pointed up ahead at a desk. Ms.
Worley sat there.
"WHAT? MS. WORLEY??" Ivy pouted. Ms. Worley sure was dedicated in Neopia!
Ivy slid up to the desk and placed her form on the top of the pile.
"So! Ivy! You've become a member of our community!" a voice squabbled
as she turned to run out the door. Caught! Ivy turned to see the an old
lady in a wheelchair talking to her. Safe! Not Ms. Worley!
"Now you can create your own pet or buy one from the pound with these
starting Neopoints," coughed the lady as she handed Ivy a bag full of
shiny gold coins.
Ivy thanked the lady and ran out the door. She turned the corner and
ran up to the pound.
"At least Ms Worley won't be there," Ivy thought. But she was wrong.
Ms. Worley had managed to whip from City Hall to the pound! How did she
do that?!?
"I saw you sign up, Ivy," chuckled Ms Worley as she looked at Ivy's expression,
"Which did you fancy last night? The Acara? Chia? Korbat?"
"Actually I was thinking about those Kacheeks I saw," Ivy interrupted.
Ms. Worley chuckled, "You can't be serious! Those runts?"
"Yes," Ivy whispered. Ms Worley stopped laughing and motioned for Ivy
to follow her. She didn't go into the "Them" door but the opposite door
which read "Adopt" in the same lettering that had been on the sign the
night before on the desk. There were beautiful, elaborate cages and food
dishes and little animals that didn't look at all like the NeoPets themselves.
"Would you like any for your new pets?" Ms Worley sighed impatiently.
Ivy marveled at the beautiful things you could spoil your pets with. Ivy
saw a tiny dog-pet pet.
"What is that one?" Ivy asked, picking up a dog-like PetPet.
"A Warf. Cute things, but very addictive. Now will you buy or not?"
Ms. Worley was obviously very impatient. Ivy chose a very elaborate cage
(very large, also). She also bought two Warfs for her new pets. Then,
Ms. Worley led Ivy back to into the prison.
