Everyone knows Quetzalcoatl, he's a very well known God, he is the Guardian of Realms, ruling between the sky and earth, wrapping his long serpentine body around the planets, keeping the two separate. He's the god of many things, highly important...
What everyone does not know, what that when Quetzalcoatl made a mistake, he was punished severely for it. He was killed by his fellow gods, and his heart turned into the planet Venus. However, a God is not so easy to kill, especially one like Quetzalcoatl, and he was reborn from the core of Venus. When he rose again, with great pain, as the God was not a phoenix, he rose with his heart protected by feathers, a very specific number of feathers, 10 long ones, that he could pull back to reveal his heart.
Every 100 years, a feather would fall from his chest, and when all had fallen, he would die and be reborn, to carry on the cycle, an eternity of pain, for his mistake. For a simple mistake.
