Petrek was born the only son of the King of the Lost Desert. After his father's death, he was supposed to rule the kingdom with his sister, Iltawehn, who instead ran away to sea, leaving the ruling of the kingdom to him, a responsibility he never wanted. Each day, as twilight comes, he dons his cloak and sneaks out of the castle, roaming the streets as a peasant, seeing the world through someone else's eyes.
