There are few alive today who have ever laid eyes upon Marrea and not many more that still believe in her. The tales still circulate amongst these few of course; tales of how the Sea Spirit brought fortune and riches to the old village Shenkuu, or how a shining ghost saved the lives of some storm-stranded ship, simply by visiting her innate good grace upon them. For you see, the legend goes that Marrea is a bearer of good luck and there are many who still look for her at night, hoping that this magical being will visit her favourable fortune on them, too.

However, there are others who do not wait for Marrea to come to them but rather seek her out. Many have tried to capture her over the generations and for some, possessing the luck of the Sea Spirit has become their life's work.

For now though, Marrea remains free, and after too many close encounters with nets and traps she prefers not to interact with the citizens of Neopia quite so much as she once did. Rather, she dwells in the safety of the Underocean and makes fleeting visits to Neopia every few months or years, to feed her curiosity and remedy her solitude by watching from afar the lives of the fascinating creatures of Neopia.
