Quote of the Week

He finally arrived in the dungeons, where the laments of the prisoners mingled and resonated in a sinister melody. But what used to be an unbearable sound had become such a part of his routine that he didn't even hear it anymore.

Illusen Day: Telling History Through Food

It’s Illusen Day! Time to celebrate one of Neopia’s most loved Earth faeries: Illusen. She is more than just someone to visit in Meridell to give your Pets quests. She is a selfless kind-hearted soul that has helped Meridell during war, a respite for those in times of great despair, and offers Neopoints to those she finds randomly walking around! Oftentimes enough, we ourselves as well as our Neopets sometimes forget the lessons and stories of our most beloved figures of history. And to be fair, sometimes it’s not an easy feat to teach when more fun things are around like the Roo Island Merry Go Round, Tiki Tours or concerts at the Tyrannian Concert Hall. Though, it is sometimes easier to have conversations over food! Many families have passed down beloved stories over preparing, serving and enjoying foods with loved ones, so that’s where we are going to start today: helping you teach about Illusen with themed foods! Feel free to pick up these already prepared items at local Neopian food stores or ask around for recipes in any Neopia cookbook! 1. Iced Illusen Tea This refreshing drink is as cool as a forest breeze. The magical vines around the drink would be a perfect way to discuss how Earth faeries work their magic over the lands. 2. Illusen Negg A negg that is always fresh, regardless of how long you’ve had it! Perfect for buying and store if your Neopet doesn’t really seem interested in learning about Illusen Day today, or tomorrow. Maybe next year! It’ll still be fresh! 3. Illusen Smoothie Not everyone can sit down for a long meal, as we are often quite busy Neopians! So much to do and so much to see, this smoothie with Illusen vibes is perfect to snack on the go and have a...

“Where is my Air Faerie Doll?” The cowering Neopian’s eyes widened at Illusen’s request. She could see them already mentally preparing for the number of Neopoints they would have to drop on her latest quest item. “Y-yes of course Illusen… I’ll be right back!” They scurried away, no doubt running straight to the Shop Wizard to see if the requested item would be within their budget. Illusen sighed. “You only have 13 minutes and 43 seconds left!” She called after the retreating figure. Her voice echoed throughout the trees of her peaceful glade, creating an eerie cacophony of sounds with her mocking tone. Illusen didn’t mean to be cranky to the Neopians trying to help her, but she just couldn’t help it. The disappointment of an empty-handed Neopian returning to her Glade was just all too familiar to her. She couldn’t stand the sight of it anymore. She impatiently paced back and forth in her glade, admiring the rich foliage surrounding her. The trees were bursting with vibrant greenery that soothed her to her very core. This Glade had become her new home when she found Faerieland to be too overwhelming for her to find comfort in. Not to mention, her worst enemy is constantly harassing her there…

"Forgotten and Remembered" by tatyanne
Illyana sat on the forest floor, running her fingers through the cool earth. It was not quite winter anymore, yet it was not quite spring yet either. It was an overcast day, and a chilly breeze swept through the forest ever so often. Normally Illyana would feel the cold, but today she did not care. It was Illusen Day. It was also Illyana’s birthday. The problem with being born on such a celebrated day, was that none of the celebrations ever were for her. Illyana sighed in frustration as she cupped the earth, forming a mound. She could let a pretty flower grow here, but the young Earth faerie could not muster the will. She left the mound bare. Illyana rose, flattening the mound decidedly with her right foot. Earth faeries were creatures of creation, but Illyana’s little act of destruction filled her with defiant energy. It was not just that her birthday fell on Illusen Day that irked Illyana. Never mind that all the presents that she ever received were Illusen-themed, or that her name had been inspired by Illusen. Most people didn’t even remember her name anyway. To most people, Illyana was the shy little sister of the rather popular, outgoing and extroverted Seiona, and was...

"Another Faerie Festival" by starbiology
Illusen would admit she was a tad surprised when she saw the letter in her mailbox. Pressed in a clean black envelope and sealed with gaudy purple and green wax stamped into a Bartamus. The little creature could almost be called cute if it was associated with anyone else. The wax seal hides the letter’s contents, forcing her to search her house's junk drawers for an envelope knife. When she finally gets the letter open she nearly rolls her eyes. Not that there is anything particularly interesting about the contents of it. Rather, she falls into the annoyed expression because of having to go to such lengths to open something only to find that it is completely within her expectations of the sender. “You are mercifully invited” she mumbles to herself as she sits down in her breakfast nook to read the letter “to the faerie festival this year, held at Jhudora’s Cloud. If you are unable to locate the premises do not bother asking for directions, I will not account for such airheaded intruders in my home. The event ends sharply at 10, all dawdlers will be thrown out” She sets the envelope on her kitchen counter and tries not to frown. Pushes it to the furthest part of her mind and even buries it under a stack of newspapers.
