Even if you are poor and if you have less than 4 pets, you
can be a foster NeoPet owner too. I am I writing this to tell you how
without a lot of extra expenses. There have been a lot of articles about
the poor pets in the Neopound. Most have good advice, but none have given
you a step by step guide. I have been with NeoPets for almost a year.
During that time I have adopted over 50 pets from the Neopound. I started
out adopting pets and trying to place them one at a time and found this
does not work very well. For those of you wanting to help the poor orphaned
NeoPets in the pound here is some advice that works.
1) Get a lab map – I know that to buy the pieces it costs
a lot of money but you get about 10,000 back when you complete it. I got
my map by collecting space map pieces from the treasure hunt. It costs
nothing but time. If you get stuck and can’t find the answer to the clue
there are a lot of helpful people on the chat board who will be glad to
help. You can then trade the space map pieces for lab map pieces at the
trading post. The treasure hunt can be accessed from the shop menu – just
click on the little treasure chest.
2) Adopt an orphan – Don’t choose a cute one that will
get adopted quickly – look around a bit and see what is in the pound –
if you look and see a lot of Skeiths there then adopt a Skeith. If you
only see one then adopt something else that the pound seems to have a
lot of. Sometimes the pound is full of Skeiths and Grundos then sometimes
it is full of Grarrls and Lennys. Don’t worry if it has a horrible name
– as a matter of fact that is the one to adopt. It will have a hard time
being adopted without intervention. Don’t pick one with a gender specific
name though (you will see why later). Also don’t pick one with a breed
specific name. Like Chia7777 for a Chia.
3) Only adopt ONE pet – even if you can adopt more than
one just adopt one – you can only deal with one foster pet at a time and
you will just waste resources trying to keep up with the extra pets. (Of
course if you want you can adopt others to keep.)
4) Visit the healing springs every chance you get (every
half hour you are online.) Besides healing points the healing springs
may fill your NeoPets up (saving you NP on food) and they can also cure
a disease that your newly adopted pet may have. I have adopted 3 that
were abandoned because they had Neopox. Neopox pizza is expensive but
the Healing
Springs are free – it may take several visits to get cured.
5) Visit the Giant
Omelette every day. You will get a piece of omelette – which will
feed three pets once– or one pet three times. Between the healing springs
and the omelette you should be able to feed the foster pet for little
or no additional NP If you do happen to need more food visit the garage
sale, the money tree or one of the food shops, but not the main shop.
You can generally catch at least one item. If you have to buy food use
the wizard and try and find organic apples – they are cheap and you get
two meals out of it.
6) Keep your foster happy. It takes very little extra
time to make a foster pet happy – an extra few minutes a day to play with
and groom it and if you use the omelette and healing springs you will
only spend a very small amount on keeping it healthy and happy. Isn’t
it worth those few NP and little bit of extra time to make an undesirable
pound pet into a very desirable adoptable pet? (Come on you only have
to play ONE extra game a day to earn the NP for it!!!) Also play the seek
game with your orphan. It will make your orphan happy and earn you extra
NP
7) Books are fairly inexpensive still – if you are feeling
generous read to the new orphan. I realize that the books now disappear
but an extra point or two of intelligence will help make it more desirable
if it is dimwitted. But even a dimwitted Faerie pet is more desirable
than a genius red one so if you cannot afford the books just skip this
step.
8) Take your new foster to the lab every day. You can
go once a day. The lab can change the pet by increasing different stats,
changing the sex, changing the species and most importantly CHANGING THE
COLOR!! You have a foster pet take it to the lab and it gets changed to
a fire pet, a Faerie pet or something else good. Now this pet is desirable
even if has a horrible name. I find on average it takes about two weeks
to get a pet changed to something desirable but it is random so it may
take longer or you may just have the pet for one little trip to the lab.
It is possible that the pet may lose a level or so but this is not generally
a problem as most of the pets in the pound are first level.
9) Take your now desirable pet to the pound. If he is
not adopted within a couple of minutes you can post a message on the chat
boards giving the pets name and his stats. You can monitor the pet’s status
by putting his name into the search NeoPets box. I have found that most
pets that are not red, yellow, green or blue get adopted rather quickly
even with a bad name. Faerie pets and fire pets get adopted almost immediately.
10) Do not try and find your NeoPets a home – the only
way the new owner can get the pet is to go to the pound and get it and
most likely if it is desirable someone else will adopt it instead making
the new potential owner very unhappy. And NEVER charge someone for the
pet. You have no way to guarantee the pet will make it to the potential
owner.
11) Thank the new owner. Explain what you are doing and
give a little information about the pet. You might make a new friend.
They may even help you or decide to donate a couple of books or food items
to your cause or take up the cause themselves and adopt a foster of their
own.
12) Sign up and visit NeoPets sponsors. Besides giving
you cool items and more NP to take care of your pets, the sponsors are
the ones who pay for all the fun we have!!
