The NP Guide: Make and Spend

by dapetmasta

Well, when I first started out as a newbie at NeoPets I had no idea what to do next after I created my pet. But slowly I learned. One thing I learned is that it is NOT easy. It was hard to buy things I wanted with only 500 NPs!!! That’s why, I’m writing this article to help all you clueless people out there.

When you first join, go to your inventory and get your Newbie Pack. It’s got a lot of useful things. Then you think, “Hmm… I’ve got 500 NPs, and a few items, so what do I do now?” Well, I think that you should open a shop. It will cost half of what you have, but believe me, IT’S WORTH IT!!! After that, put the things you got in the Newbie Pack that you don’t think you’ll need in your shop, and give it a reasonable price. Put the price so that you will receive a 45% profit. What should you put in the shop? Well, I suggest food items, because there are a lot of hungry pets out there! Oh, and also always make sure there is something for people to buy!

Play games. That is a main source of where you’ll earn your NPs. A few games to get quick NP are Wheel of Excitement, Meerca chase, Kiko Match and The Wheel of Mediocrity. Games that will give big pay out, but big brains and time are needed for Poogle Solitaire, Switch-A-Roo, and Super Bullseye. Try and make a goal of making at least 400 NP a day, and increase that amount as you are more familiar with the games.

Bargain and Haggle. Hey, what else can you do? When you buy stuff at the main shops, you have to click on the item you want to buy and type what you’re willing to pay. Well the shopkeepers are very generous and friendly (well, most of the times). They are willing to give you the item for a cheaper price then it is labeled. Try bargaining for 5% cheaper. They’ll usually give it to you, since they know you’ll be a regular customer.

Get a Discount Card. This is not one of the most important NP saving element, but it will save you a ton of money as you play NeoPets longer. When you buy something around 100 NPs, and you have a card, that 100 NPs will be discounted according to which card you have. It you have a 5% discount card, then you pay 95 NP and save 5. That may not be a lot but in the long run, it will. And it gets even better, because you can bargain for that item! Say you bargain 90 NPs, and you do get it, then you only pay 85 NP and save 15 NP according to the original price of 100 NP!

Get a bank account. As NP start pouring in from your many efforts, you will need to secure some of your money from ‘ghosts’ that fly around taking NP. Doing this, you can not only secure your money, you can also put things in the safety deposit box that is included to secure your items as well! Opening an account can also give you an extra 30 NPs to your grand collection.

Set a shopping amount. Every time you want to go shopping set a goal of how much you’ll spend. Being a newbie, I’d say, spend 75 NP. Deposit all your NP into your bank and withdraw your ‘goal’ after you are finished, then look at how much you still have. Say you have 25 NP left. Good. Save it. Don’t take out the money you have in your bank unless you are going shopping again. The left over 25 NP will be added on to the next time you shop. As you rank in more NP, this ‘goal’ may change to a higher amount. When you feel you can ‘control’ yourself when shopping, then you may not need to use this strategy and carry as much NP as you wish, but don’t over do the shopping though.

And hey, keep in mind that the REAL point of NeoPets is fun, right? It’s supposed to be a game. It’s not how wealthy you are, or how big your shop is. It’s how much fun your really having. Even if you had 2 million NPs, but no fun, then what’s the point?
