Miamouse26 the blue Shoyru looked out the window at the stormy day. Her
owner, Jenna, glanced over at her and glared. “Mia!” she snapped. “What
are you looking at?!”
Mia sighed and turned away. She hated living with Jenna.
But she didn’t have a choice. Her old owner, Heidi, couldn’t support Mia
and her sisters, Rosa the red Uni and Loria the red Shoyru, anymore, and
gave Mia to Jenna, her best friend, Rosa to a girl named Lara and Loria
to a girl named Sandia. The only thing she had of her old life was the
PetPet Heidi had bought her when they were rich, a Miamouse named Lorisa,
after her sisters. Rosa and Loria had been her best friends. Now she had
to live with Jenna and her horrible pets, Tala the red Eyrie, Poochi the
green Gelert, and Meiow the yellow Aisha.
“Get me a lemonade, Mia,” ordered Meiow. Mia walked to the kitchen. She
couldn’t disobey. Jenna would punish her by giving her no dinner, and
having skipped the previous night, she was hungry. Jenna didn’t bother
to give her breakfast or lunch. Mia carried the glass out on a silver
tray and presented it to Meiow.
“Here’s your lemonade, Meiow,” she said quietly.
“Miss Meiow,” corrected Jenna sharply.
“Miss,” implemented Mia quickly. She knew she’d get hit if she refused.
Meiow picked up the glass skeptically. Then she slammed it back on the
tray. “It’s not cold enough,” she whined. Mia stumbled, and dropped the
tray. The tray clattered halfway across the room and the glass shattered
on the marble floor. Afraid of Jenna hitting her, Mia began to cry.
“Stop crying!” demanded Jenna. Mia continued to cry.
“I said stop crying!” yelled Jenna. She took 80 Neopoints and put it
in her pocket and dragged Mia by the wing. Mia grabbed Lorisa and followed
Jenna across town, wondering vaguely where they were going. Then she saw
the building Jenna was looking at. The big blue letters stood out from
the maroon background.

“No!!!” Mia cried.
“But why?”
“You disobeyed me! You didn’t stop crying when I said to!” yelled Jenna.
“I have no use for a pet who doesn’t listen to me!!!” She marched into
the pound. “Take this disgusting pet away! I never want to see her again!”
Dr_Death looked at Mia. “Her name?”
“Miamouse.”
Dr_Death typed something up into a computer. “Cage 52,” he said. Then
he took Lorisa away from her. “You won’t need your little PetPet anymore.”
But the red Uni next to him grabbed it out of his hands and gave it back
to Mia. “She’s yours to keep,” she said, and smiled.
Jenna stormed off without a last word. Dr_Death carried Mia to Cage 52,
inhabited by a blue Usul and a green Jubjub. Mia gave each one a nod,
then sat down with Lorisa and cried. A few weeks later a girl with a blue
Jubjub, a yellow Mynci and a white Poogle came and adopted Mia.
“Hi,” she said.
“You can call me Ida.”
Mia became good friends with Ida’s pets, Sugar (Poogle) Banana (Mynci)
and Fluffball (Jubjub).
One day Ida was looking through the Neopian Times and saw the transformation
of the Flotsam and the Meerca.
“Look at these! Aren’t they cute?”
The next day Ida ate breakfast quickly and then looked at Mia and Sugar.
“You guys are coming to town with me today. Banana and Fluffball, I’ll
bring you something back.”
Mia became suspicious. She looked at Ida. The bag of NPs, the registration
papers for Sugar and Mia, and that strange look. Then it hit her. They
were going to the pound, and Ida was getting a Flotsam and a Meerca. Before
she could warn Sugar, they were in the pound, and going through the process
again. Mia hid Lorisa and Sugar’s pet, a Beekadoodle named Cila, in the
food bags, and they got their pets for lunch that day. Two months after,
Mia was looking at the pound visitors, and spotted a red Shoyru that looked
suspiciously like Loria, with a girl who had a striped Aisha. No, it couldn’t
be, she thought. But then she looked closer. It was Loria!
“Loria!” she yelled. Loria turned around and spotted Mia.
The girl turned around. “And who is this?” she asked Loria.
“This is my birth sister, Sandia,” replied Loria happily.
“And who is the Poogle?”
“One of her other sisters, Sugar.”
“Well then, we’ll have to take both of them,” said the girl, and Mia
and Sugar smiled.
On the way out, the girl smiled. “Call me Sandia. You know Loria, and
the Aisha is Tiger.”
Her smile became wider than before, and she said the words Mia had always
been longing to hear: “Welcome to the family.”
The End
Author’s Note: Miamouse26 is my real pet. I adopted her from the pound,
but Sugar is fictional, and so are Loria and Tiger. Lorisa and Cila are
also fictional. And all her past owners and their pets are fictional.
