With the new HTML guide many
more people have been putting HTML into their shops, which don't get me
wrong, I think it's a great idea. Unfortunately, there are certain downfalls.
Let's look at a few of them. (And just for the record, I have a cable
modem.) (Studies have shown most people will only wait less then a minute
for a web page to load.)
1. Music
Putting music in the back of web pages is a great idea, but not on a shop.
It takes too much time to load, and people are most likely just going
to go to a different shop. Save it for your Pet's home page.
2. Chat
I was searching through shops the other day and found that many people
had chat programs in their shops. Very annoying. Not only did it take
a long time to load, but anytime someone would enter and exit, it would
play a .wav file. There was also one with voice enabled chat on the same
page. Too much wasted time.
3. Animated .gifs
Only use one or two at the most. I was in a shop today where some had
42 (five of them just said "welcome" in different ways), as well as a
video from farmclub.com (using realplayer) playing in the background.
Big mistake. Eats up precious download time. And by the time the page
finally loads, the item that you originally went in there for is gone.
4. Regular .gifs
People use way too many pictures in their shops. Again, this eats up download
time. The sizes on some of the gifs are very large. Bad idea.
5. Videos
Again, save this for your pet page. I don't want to have to wait for a
video to load up when I'm looking for an item.

This is just my opinion.
