Battle Faerie Legend

by Katrinity

Eleah the faerie awoke on her fifteenth birthday with a good start. She remembered her dream all too clearly. She had been walking up to the gates at the Training Palace, where young Neopian boys and male faeries went to learn how to defend Neopia, and destroy the evil that once was. How much she wished she could go there, to slay dragons, and rescue the helpless. Yet she felt so helpless. Girls could not learn to become defenders and protectors. Girls had to find a nit-witted husband and stay home to knit sweaters. How boring!

Eleah went back to bed, trying to return to her dream. However, sleep had long passed, so she got up and put on riding pants (incredibly un-lady-like), hose, a shirt, a tunic, and riding jacket. She then snuck out to the stables, and threw her delicate side-saddle against the wooden wall. Instead, she lifted her brother's large spare saddle and put it on her horse, Rhia. Without a sound, she led Rhia out to the road to the Palace.

If she was to succeed in training at the palace, she would have to take drastic measures (like cutting her hair). Before she rode up to the gates, she cut her her hair very short. A tall boy met her. "Are you going to train, Sir?" he asked, not realizing she was a girl. All the better for her. "Uh, yes, where do I go?" she replied, making her voice sound husky. He pointed through the gates to a man who was looking at something. She walked through the gates and gave Rhia to the stable boy.

The man was a short and stocky Chia, who Eleah knew as Duke Thyan. She curtsied and the Duke looked shocked. "A boy, curtsy? What is wrong with you, young man?" Eleah started, "I know girls are not permitted to train here, or anywhere. However, I will ask you now, to see what I can do before you reject me. My name is Lady Eleah, of Barony Scea, by the ocean which separates this land from the Mystery Island." Mystery Island?" the Duke thought to himself: What is the Mystery Island? And why is a girl here? I will just say she is not able after I witness her. "I suppose. But if I think you are not able to keep up with the boys, you must never return. And what is this Mystery Island?" Eleah replied, "In the far future, a Chia will discover the Island." She also saw the development of the Battledome. No one had even thought about this. She could see the future.

"Well, I suppose you can train here," said Duke Thyan, after he saw her amazing archery skills, swordsmanship, and hand-to-hand combat. And train she did. She worked harder than she had ever imagined and, in the end, she won her first shield. She told the Duke after the ceremony, "I am like a dragon. The female dragon fights for her honour, her land, and her life. Often, they lose all three. But they do not stop trying. Just look at the Faerie Queen. She battles with magic, but her work is just as hard as that of a protector or defender of Neopia. But she does not give up. Although my powers are weak, I have developed my Healing Power, and the Power to See the Future. I am going to explore the land, rid it of everything evil. When another young girl comes to the palace in the very distant future, think of a dragon, and then decide. Farewell, and--thank you, " Eleah said.

After winning another shield, she saved the Prince of Neopia from harm and from the ghosts of Neopia, Eleah was now known as the Battle Faerie. She defeated many dragons along the way except for one, a young female dragon, who she trained as her companion, named Thyanna. After leaving with Thyanna to help the Mystery Island in peril, still long before it was discovered, she became simply a legend. But then she returned, with a new horse. Legends, like dragons, really never stop living.
