Pet Name: _Griimoire_
Owner: rainbowdragon3200
Breed: Aisha

About _Griimoire_:
Grim huffed as he sat down in the clouds, the cheers of the nearby Poogle Races reaching the edge of Faerieland. The Aisha curled his tail around his body, his antennae blocking his ears to the booming noises as he stared at the ground below. He kicked at the cloud he lay on, watching as it floated down and disappeared into the crater. Faerieland was far from the most interesting place in Neopia. Although everyone seemed to love going to the castle, whether to gamble or for a chance to meet the elusive faeries, it was merely a vacation spot; a place where one would stay for a week or two until they had their fill. It was hardly an ideal place to settle down and live out the rest of your days. It was far too noisy, far too bright, far too tempting to gamble away your life savings on a Poogle that may or may not have been sick with the Itchy Scratchies.

And that’s exactly the predicament Griimoire was in.

He hadn’t meant to spend so long at the Poogle Races, he had other things to do, after all. But as it turned out, the bright lights and loud cheers and the sounds of Neopoints clanking against metal was too much for the blue Aisha to bear. The next few hours went by like a blur and Grim’s voice was sore from yelling his Poogle’s name from the stands. He had been sure that this one was it. That this one would win. It had to, for Grim had bet everything on Poogle 1.

Lady Luck had not been on his side because Poogle 1 had lost by a landslide.

And here Grim sat, not wanting to show his face to his family, not wanting them to see the defeated look on his face as they realized he had just spent everything on some stupid race. He had gambled away everything before, and they had forgiven him eventually. But now… now he wasn’t so sure. He stood up, pacing as he weighed his options. He could go back and face the music, but- that’s it! He grinned as he ran to the rainbow fountain. Neopets threw their money in there all the time! And even if he got caught, he was on good terms with the water faerie who resided there. All he needed to do was get his hands on 400 Neopoints, enough for an offering so he could weasel his way into the Faerie Caverns. If he played his cards right, he would be swimming in those golden coins!

He crept up to the fountain, holding his breath as he slipped into the cold water. Luckily, the water faerie had been talking with a sad looking Acara, too busy trying to sell her wares to notice that anything was wrong. Grim grabbed the money from the bottom of the fountain, quickening his pace when he heard the faerie laugh and wave the Acara off. With the rush of adrenaline in his veins, he lifted himself out of the pond and stumbled away, shaking his fur out as he ran to the caverns.

He made his way to the caverns without incident, and dropped in the Neopoints without a second thought. He squinted as his eyes adjusted to the dim light, reaching a crossroad and going left with little hesitation.

“Left, right, right, left, right.” Grim mumbled to himself as he walked along the path. He had heard Neopets whispering that it was the pattern for today and although he hardly trusted rumors, he was desperate to get his hands on some Neopoints to bring back home to his family.

A flash of red made him stumble out of the way, a rush of wind making him cough. He thought he heard the Neopet speak, his voice echoing throughout the cave. With a grumble, he chased after him. He didn’t want any other Neopet to steal his treasure.

Grim stood in a large opening in the cave, leaning against the wall to catch his breath. He had been following the red blur for a while now and he had finally caught up to them. They were laughing wildly at they looked at the large piles of treasure, their tail kicking up dust as it swished happily. The Eyrie flew around the cave, picking up their finds and giggling. If Grim wasn’t so frustrated at the beast, it would have been a fascinating sight.

“Hey… you stop that!” Grim shouted, making the eyrie stop. “I-I was here first!”

The Eyrie chuckled, flying back down and standing in front of Grim. It was then Grim realized that this Neopet was far bigger than he was.

“Oh yeah? And what’re you gonna do about it?” They smirked, before the turning back around.

“Don’t turn your back on me!” Grim yelled as he ran at the Eyrie, tackling them to the ground.

The eyrie was caught off guard, and didn’t attempt to recover. His wing was pinned against a rather large piece of golden equipment.

“Okay, okay, I’ll leave.” The Eyrie gasped as he stood, stretching his wing and wincing in pain. Grim noticed immediately.

“I didn’t hurt you, did I?” The Aisha asked, reaching out to lay a paw on the Eyrie’s shoulder. “We can go to my place and I can see if there’s anything to fix your wing with…?”

The Eyrie unfurled his non injured wing. Shaking his head, he walked off. “There’s the Healing Springs, my little Aisha friend. But I like the way you fight! Absolutely no hesitation! How would you like to come with me? I’m only in Faerieland for a few more days, then I’m off the Kawark!”

Grim stared at him. Go… with him? A chance to see the world? “I would love to, but I have a family to go back to.” He replied. He saw the Eyrie’s face fall for a second, before smiling.

“Well, if you change your mind I’m staying on the edge of town!” With a wink, the eyrie was gone, his claws scratching against the cave floor.
“What do you mean we don’t have any more Neopoints?” His sister asked, her antennae twitching in anger. “Do you even care that we have two younger sisters to take care of? Do you even think about anyone other than yourself?”

Grim opened his mouth, but was immediately silenced by her tail.

“Don’t even think about talking.” She snarled, her teeth baring. “Don’t even think about coming back until you can feed the four of us for a year.”

With a hard shove, he was out the door. She slammed it, and for a second Grim thought that she would open it back up, ushering him inside with a manternal edge to her voice. When he realized she wouldn’t, he made his way to the edge of town.

“Oh, you came!” The Eyrie called, wrapping his wing around Grim. “What made you change your mind?”

“Oh, uh, my sisters understand that I want to travel so they let me come here.” Grim glanced down. It wasn’t entirely a lie but he didn’t like lying to his friend. “I-I didn’t get your name!” He said, quickly changing the subject. “I’m Griimoire, and you are..?”

“Dantallion! The greatest treasure hunter in Neopia!” He introduced himself, grinning. “Oh, that reminds me!” Dantallion rushed back inside, coming back with two dripping paint brushes. “The most important thing is blending in! And since we’re stopping by Kawark, I was thinking Pirate Paint Brushes! These cost a fortune, but luckily we’ll get that all back when we take those sweet dubloons!” Dantallion laughed.
