Pet Name: Josye
Owner: sjbirdie
Breed: Shoyru

About Josye:
"Nearly there," Josye mumbled to herself, as she wiped her brow and continued to dig up the weeds surrounding the tulips. It was a hot day; the sun's rays bore through the almost cloudless sky, illuminating the vibrant colours of the garden's flora. The plants and their shadows danced to the tune of the slight breeze which battled its way through the humidity. The rustle of the leaves on the shrubs and trees echoed throughout the garden, with the occasional interruption of birdsong. Meanwhile, Josye's petpet schnelly, Muffin, was frantically chasing any butterfly brave enough to enter his eye line, and Muffin's pet springabee was busy pollinating the various flowers in the garden.

"Finally, that's done!" Josye exclaimed, exhaling sharply. She didn't mind weeding (at the end of the day, it was a job that had to be done) but the weeds always seemed to grow faster than the flowers themselves. She turned around to see Muffin chasing a couple of butterflies and laughed.

"Mind the flowers," she told Muffin, still chuckling, "because you know the gardening show is this Saturday and I cannot afford for you to trample all over them!"

It was the Neopian Central Gardening Show in a few days, and Josye had many exhibits to prepare as well as cakes to bake, because she was in charge of the refreshments which were served whilst the judging took place. Her flowers usually brought her much success, and she had been giving them extra attention in recent days and keeping an eye out for particularly spectacular blooms. She decided she had finished in the garden for now, and made her way indoors and into the kitchen, with the intention of icing the cupcakes she had baked earlier and left to cool.

A concerned expression appeared on Josye's face. She was certain she had made 15 cupcakes but, on first glance, it appeared there were fewer than a dozen. She began to count them and, sure enough, only ten were on the kitchen worktop. Josye shook her head in disbelief and went outside into the garden.

"Muffin!" she called, and her loyal petpet who, despite being occupied with rolling around in the soil near the rose bed, bounded over to his owner obligingly.
"Have you got something to tell me?" Josye said, pointing in the direction of the kitchen window, "I have lost five cupcakes...was it you?"
Muffin shook his head.
"Are you sure? I won't be angry, Muffin, but I would like the truth," she said, calmly.
Muffin once again shook his head, this time more vigorously than before. Josye sighed.
"Well then, I believe you. However, I don't have enough cakes anymore, so I suppose I will have to make some more now."

Within the next hour, Josye had taken her second batch of cupcakes out of the oven and left them to cool with the previous batch on the kitchen worktop. During this time, she pondered over whether she had actually made 15 cupcakes. She was convinced she had, but with the thoughts of baking and the gardening show buzzing around in her head like fireflies at night, she doubted herself. Nevertheless, the second batch had now been made and she strolled out into the garden. She closed her eyes and inhaled the fresh air, thinking what a relief it was that it was much less humid than it had been earlier. Clouds had now encroached on the sun's territory, taking turns to glide in front of it and block the path of its rays. Josye looked around, noting Muffin fast asleep beneath the willow tree situated in one corner of the garden, and strolled over to the wooden bench on the other side. She sat down and looked up at the sky. She listened to the birds which continued to serenade the garden with their tunes, and her eyes began to close...

Josye suddenly awoke to something tugging on the bottom of her dress. She looked down to see Muffin at her feet, staring up at her.
"What is it?" she asked her loyal companion, rubbing her eyes, "Are you alright?"
Muffin stared at her for a few seconds, before turning and bounding towards the house. Josye decided it was probably best to follow him. She found Muffin in the kitchen. He stared at her once more, before turning his head towards the kitchen worktop. A handful of the cupcakes were on their side and it appeared that more had gone missing. Whoever had taken the cakes from the original batch had obviously returned for more. Shaking her head in bemusement, she glanced down at Muffin, who was glaring at the floor. Josye bent down to see what Muffin was looking at. The sunlight, which at this particular moment in time had managed to escape the attempts of the clouds to smother it, highlighted a small sprinkling of flour on the kitchen floor.

"I must have dropped it whilst I was making the cakes," Josye remarked. As she said this, however, she noted that there were several circles of flour on the kitchen floor, which looked like they could almost be footprints. Josye stood up.

"Muffin, you're a genius!" she exclaimed, "Can you see where they are leading?"

Muffin plodded slowly through the kitchen, eventually stopping outside one of the kitchen cupboards and looking up at his owner with a slightly worried look.
"It's okay," Josye said, reassuringly, "I'm sure who, or whatever, it is isn't dangerous!"
Having said this, as she reached for the handle on the cupboard, she had second thoughts. She walked over to other side of the kitchen, grabbed a frying pan, and came back over.
"Just in case," she said, to which Muffin nodded.

Josye opened the cupboard to find a wide-eyed spring babaa staring sheepishly up at her and Muffin, with a pile of discarded cupcake cases at its feet. This particular spring babaa was known to Josye, as she was the petpet of her sister, Elsyh. Josye crossed her arms and shook her head in amusement.

"Well the only thing that's scary about you is your appetite!" she said, and smirked before turning to put away the frying pan, "Right, now off you go so I can clean up the mess you've made!"

The spring babaa stepped out of the cupboard, shuffled guiltily past Josye and was escorted out the kitchen by Muffin. Josye smiled and returned to the kitchen worktop to count how many cupcakes remained intact. Fortunately, 18 cupcakes had survived the ordeal, which was more than enough for the show at the weekend. Josye paused for a moment and grinned. She grabbed three cupcakes and made her way outside into the garden.

Josye walked over to the bench she had rested on earlier, where both petpets were on the ground nearby. She put one cupcake in front of Muffin, one in front the babaa and sat on the bench. They both turned and looked up at her.

"It's alright," Josye reassured them, "because I have more cupcakes than I need now, so we might as well make the most of it! I don't know about you two, but I am exhausted!"

Within moments of finishing her sentence, both petpets had devoured their cupcakes. Josye chuckled, before she went to take a bite out of her own. She paused for a moment, looked up at the sky, and smiled.
