Quote of the Week
It was dark and smelled like grease. He heard drums that he could feel in his bones. The drumming was almost calming, like a heartbeat. There was some suggestion of a queue, but it wasn’t being followed very well, not the least of which by whoever was hosting the event, the owners of a pair of heavily accented voices that kept calling people up, seemingly at random.
Slushie Slinger Recipes to Satisfy Every Craving!
It’s that time of the year again, and Altador Cup is in full swing! Despite the Void casting an air of gloom upon Neopia, the Cup is going as strong as ever. Brightvale and Meridell may be shrouded in grey, but their Yooyuball teams are doing smashingly, holding onto some of the top spots! Strolling through Altador, you see fans from all teams decked out in their team gear, adorned with multicoloured foam fingers and sweatbands proudly rooting for their favourite team. You can’t help but notice that many are also holding a variety of colourful slushies - some in exotic yellow, green, vibrant pink, and juicy blue. Oh, how they look simply delectable and thirst quenching in the summer Altador heat!
Eager to taste the famous slushies for yourself, you head towards the slushie store adjacent to the Yooyuball stadium. Pushing through crowds of fans you finally make it there - only to find the most insanely long line ever! The customers are impatient and disgruntled. Steam is seeping from their ears, their fists raised in anger, demanding their slushies be served, NOW! The poor Tuskaninny waitress, Cheryl Shelly, is working at her limits yet the line just keeps growing.
You estimate the wait for a slushie could potentially be hours long, yet you really want that slushie before the next Yooyuball game. So what should you do to satisfy that craving? You could head up to Terror Mountain to the Slushie Shop and buy one there, but you’d have to trek all the way up the mountain, and you’d probably still have to sit and wait for a slushie you want to restock. By the time you get there and back to Altador, you would’ve missed the game you were waiting for! And anyway, it wouldn’t quite be the same as... |
How to Choose a Petpet for Your Mutant Pet
Mutant Pets have some of the coolest designs out there, but their customization options are a lot more limited than other Pets. If you want to give your Mutant some extra pizzazz on their lookup, giving them a Petpet is the way to go. But how can you possibly decide what to choose with so many Petpets out there? Well, you’re in luck, because I’m going to demonstrate some of my favourite strategies to find that perfect fit!
Option 1: Spooky Petpets
They’re a classic for a reason, right? Mutant Pets and cute-but-creepy Petpets go together like peanut butter and Jellied Eyeballs.
For this category, I’ve chosen the Mutant Cybunny as a model. For this Pet, which has a lovely grey-coloured coat and charming red eyes, the Droolik would be my spooky Petpet of choice. This adorable little creature has a grey colour, soulful orange eyes, and long floppy ears just like the Cybunny. Drooliks aren’t the most active Petpets, making them the perfect companion for the Mutant Cybunny who likes to spend their days scheming.
But if you can’t stomach that price tag, the Gnar would be my next recommendation. This is more of a personality match- just look at that keen expression! I also find the blue of the Cybunny’s nose is nicely evoked by the fur on the Gnar’s head. If you have the budget for it, I think the Gnar looks especially striking when painted Black.
Pros: match a spooky theme well, often cheaper
Cons: may be too popular for those who want to stand out
Option 2: Land of Origin
For those who want to think a little more creatively, choosing a Petpet that comes from the same land as your Pet’s species might be the way to go. |
| Visiting the Kadoatie Cafe
Ah, Kadoaties. Affectionately referred to as 'Kads' by their fans, and known to be remarkably picky about their food. They keep us up at night with their crying once we turn the lights off. Despite this, Kadoaties are one of the most popular species of Petpets across all of Neopia. This collective admiration for our furred friends has curated a delightful environment which caters to both Petpet fans and foodies alike.
Of course, I'm talking about the Kadoatie Cafe.
For anyone not in the know, the Kadoatie Cafe is an establishment that serves food and drinks in a comfortable lounge space. The closest comparison to make would be The Coffee Cave in Roo Island. What makes the Kadoatie Cafe stand out is how it houses Kads for patrons to observe, pet and play with. Perhaps even adopt if they so choose!
I'm here to tell you about what makes the Kadoatie Cafe so great, and why you should consider paying it a visit yourself.
First, let's start with their namesake.
If you've never owned a Kadoatie personally, you have likely seen them at the Kadoatery in Neopia Central. However, many Neopians find the Kadoatery too crowded and feel unable to truly appreciate the Kadoaties in such a cramped space.
The Kadoatie Cafe gets around this by bringing attention to Kads in need inside a fun, cozy environment. Most of the Kadoaties present are eligible for adoption and fostering as former residents of the Kadoatery themselves. |

"A Hero's Journey: Interim" by precious_katuch14 ”Urgent summons from the Crown, for Sir Rohane of Trestin.” The Grey Draik stood in the doorway, clutching a scroll sealed with the Meridell emblem. The colours had been washed out of the scroll, its seal, and the Draik’s tunic. “Yikes, looks like whatever happened south is worse than we thought,” said Reuben, shaking his head. “It’s a miracle Trestin hasn’t gone grey. And a miracle that you were here with us instead of at the castle.” “I wonder if it’s because we’re far north.” Rohane reached out and took the scroll, and immediately opened it to read. The White Blumaroo’s forehead creased steadily, and his expression shifted from uncertainty, to worry, to nervous dread. “What does it say?” the bigger White Blumaroo asked. “Are you…being asked to return to Meridell Castle? I wouldn’t be surprised if…” Rohane lowered the parchment, grimacing as he glanced from Reuben, to the Draik, and to the summons, where his name was written in splotchy black script as though the scribe had little care for the mess they left on the scroll. He sighed. “Worse. Not only will I be cutting my vacation short, but…Jeran and a lot of other knights have been hit by the curse. Of all the remaining knights who can still report for duty, I have the highest rank.” “Then, that means…”

"To Make An Omelette..." by dennykins “Don’t look down,” Max willed himself, as he edged his way around the narrow cliff face. Small pieces of sandstone crumbled underfoot and tumbled down into the Tyrannian jungle far below. Max’s eyes followed them as they went, immediately not following his own advice. The world seemed to sway and shift in and out of focus, and Max struggled to retain his footing. He swallowed hard and continued his slow journey around the edge of the precipice. He rounded the corner and saw his goal in front of him – the lair of the Beast. ----------------- Earlier that day, Max had awoken with optimism. It was to be his first day at his new job guarding the Giant Omelette. Max viewed this as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf and this new opportunity represented a shift in his fortunes. He had been down on his luck recently, ever since he was asked to stop playing with his band, Jazzmosis. The other band members had decided they no longer needed any Kau bell on their tracks. Their loss. Max had been excited to meet Sabre-X, of whom he had heard so much about, but that excitement quickly dissipated when it became clear that Sabre-X was not anywhere near as interested in meeting Max. Nonetheless, it was nice to be working again, and Max tried to make the most... |
"A Qasalan Investigation" by maddie_bangz ”Testing, testing… This is Annabelle, investigative journalist for the Neopian Times, reporting live from Qasala.”
The sun was beating down intensely onto Annabelle as she held her tape recorder close to her mouth, hidden under her loose sleeve. Despite the heat, she pulled the hood of her cloak lower over her face as she tried to keep a low profile in this quaint desert city. Her unmistakable Blue Aisha ears poked out of the holes on the top of her head, ruining the disguise. Annabelle could only do so much to conceal her identity.
She leaned out of the alleyway and stared at the building across the street, quietly observing the Neopians walking in and out every few minutes. She pressed the record button and continued to whisper into the device.
“Located in Qasala, a quaint city bordering the river in the Lost Desert, the Wheel of Extravagance has been a joy and frustration to many. Our investigative team have all experienced the rush and usual disappointment of spinning this pricey wheel and have felt the sting of the Tonu laughing at us as we walk away with our meagre prizes. Though it is said that the rare Neopian can take home a prize worth more than they could ever imagine, that has not been the case for most.” |
