Quote of the Week
Jacob continued to fall. By all means he should have been terrified, and yet, all he could notice was the sky itself. Vibrant shades of orange and purple simultaneously...a true wonder to behold. And then he just...stopped.
When the Sky Met the Land
Over the past few years, we have spent a long time analyzing, discussing, and writing about the faeries' transition from the sky to the ground. Yet we've lacked a bit on reporting about the residents that had their lives changed when Faerieland came crashing down into their backyards.
Although many have accepted and embraced their new neighbors, the relationship has been far from harmonious. |
Myths and Omens: In the Sky
Countless myths surround the Neopian folklore throughout the ages. Stories and tales of unseen creatures and events have been carried forward by generations of Neopians through their traditional storytelling. Our aim is to preserve these in their original rendition while reciting the story as it was recited to us by the natives of each Neopian land.

"Cotton Candy Clouds" by the_gecko_dude_ii A slim, Royal Boy Gelert, fumbled with a ring of keys in one hand, while balancing a paper bag of groceries in the other. After a few moments of struggling, he managed to open the door into his small, and untidy, apartment. An annoyed sigh escaped his lips.
“Elodius!” He called out, his voice bouncing off the walls. He set the paper bag down in the kitchen. “Elodius!!!”
“Sweet Fyora,” the young Gelert heard a voice mumble beyond the kitchen. “I thought I’d have more time to tidy up before you got back home.”
A Halloween Gelert leaned against the kitchen doorway. He pushed his dark, messy hair out of his face and tried to smooth it down into place.
“You really just woke up, didn’t you?”
“Etzie, I’m sorry, I really meant to –“
The upset Gelert interrupted the other with a wave of his hand, and began putting the groceries away. “It’s fine, I’ll just clean the apartment myself.”
“I can help out, you know, it’s not as big a deal as you’re making it out to be.”
“No, I don’t want you to help because I don’t really want to see you right now.”
“Jeeze, Etzie, you’re really blowing this out of proportion.”
Etzie slammed the cupboard door shut. “No, I’m really not. We split rent for this place down the middle and you do nothing but sit in your room all day or laze around on the couch and eat pizza, which, of course you don’t clean up.”
Elodius started to argue back, but was interrupted by a knock on the door. Etzie slapped a palm to his face.
“Great!” He exclaimed. Now Tomse and Tira are going to see our apartment while it’s a total wreck. This is so embarrassing.”
Elodius rolled his eyes. “They really won’t care, Etzie. You care too much what others thing.”
Etzie shot Elodius a venomous glance as he went to open the door. Elodius felt a twinge in his heart. He felt awful for sleeping in so late and not cleaning the apartment like Etzie asked. He knew very well how worked up his roommate got about keeping their living space clean and presentable to others, but he just didn’t see things the same way. |
"Castles in the Sky" by kentuckyfrychickenrl The sun was setting, casting a faint pinkish glow over the ground, as Alaina made her way back to Faerie City. Captivated, the air faerie paused mid-flight to watch its descent. Overhead, the sky was a beautiful mixture of yellows, oranges, and pinks, with a band of blue stretching above. She caught sight of the clouds, painted pink and purple, and an abrupt pang of sadness and nostalgia seized at her as she was suddenly reminded of a different, yet infinitely more familiar set of clouds...ones she had not seen in what seemed an eternity.
She closed her eyes, remembering... She could see all of it so vividly, in her mind's eye -- the great sweep of clouds massing together, so close and connected that they seemed as one. Pastel mountain peaks emerging mysteriously through the thick, swirling white puffs. Streams of rainbows cascading from a series of clouds while other streams of clear, sparkling, blue water flowed serenely into springs. Two long cobbled bridges leading into the heart of the city, where cobblestones of magenta and violet opened to a multitude of bright and colorful shops, carpets of cloud hugging their bases like fluffy, snow-covered flowerbeds. And the castle, appearing in the distance like some lovely utopian palace, its pink and purple towers standing tall and dignified.
Faerieland had been a paradise, a place so perfect that it surely could only have existed in the most beautiful of dreams.
...And now it seemed, her dreams were the only place she could hope to see that majestic view. Alaina squeezed her eyes tighter, trying with a futile desperation to hold onto the vision, just a little longer, but the images slipped away, fading to nothing. Everything seemed to go out of her as she breathed out a sigh, letting her shoulders fall and her eyes release their hold.
Slowly, the air faerie let her eyes open. The sky was growing imperceptibly darker, as the sun dipped ever lower, the clouds retaining their purplish hues. Alaina gave a last, long look at them, her periwinkle eyes sad and wistful.
Would Faerieland ever return to the clouds? she wondered. |
"A Sailor's Sky" by racerfishy The moonlight sparkled off the dark sea as Hunter nervously walked along the planks of the Haunted Woods docks, his boots clacking off the worn wood. Though not as dangerous as Krawk Island due to most pirates living there, the Haunted Woods docks still had a healthy mixture of grumpy sailors and smooth tongue merchants to keep one on their toes. Normally Hunter wouldn’t dream of setting foot within a mile of this place, but desperate times call for desperate measures. As he pondered whether or not the risk was worth it, the salty wind bit through his ragged coat, pulling him from his thoughts and prompting the young Krawk to try and take his mind off the fact that the thing was falling apart at the seams. He tightly gripped the slip of paper in his claws, fearing that the gusts of wind would take his only chance at getting even a look from the Captain away from him.
“Yo, watch it!”
Hunter stumbled, almost dropping his precious paper as a burly Blumaroo shoved past him. He was carrying a barrel on his shoulder that probably weighed more than the Krawk himself.
“S-Sorry…” the youth stammered.
The Blumaroo stared down at him with yellow eyes. “Be lucky I’m in a hurry, otherwise I might see if I could catch something with you as bait…”
He shoved Hunter with a solid jab to the chest before lumbering off, adjusting the barrel on his shoulder. Meekly the Krawk climbed back to his feet, trying to brush off the humiliating stares from a couple of sailors sitting outside a tavern.
“Little guppy, he won’t last to the next tide…” The Moehog on the left chuckled, taking a swig from his tankard.
The Ixi sitting to his right laughed and knocked the table with his hoof. “Next tide? Ooh, that's more generous than I would give him. Hey boy! Are ye lost? The fairground is back that way!”
Hunter scurried away, hiding his blushing scales in the collar of his coat. As he quietly made his way further down the docks, his eyes nervously darted around to the various sailors lounging about as he tried to find the ship that he was looking for. |
