Visiting the Kadoatie Cafe

by xdlugia_reborn

--------

Ah, Kadoaties. Affectionately referred to as 'Kads' by their fans, and known to be remarkably picky about their food. They keep us up at night with their crying once we turn the lights off. Despite this, Kadoaties are one of the most popular species of Petpets across all of Neopia. This collective admiration for our furred friends has curated a delightful environment which caters to both Petpet fans and foodies alike.

Of course, I'm talking about the Kadoatie Cafe.

For anyone not in the know, the Kadoatie Cafe is an establishment that serves food and drinks in a comfortable lounge space. The closest comparison to make would be The Coffee Cave in Roo Island. What makes the Kadoatie Cafe stand out is how it houses Kads for patrons to observe, pet and play with. Perhaps even adopt if they so choose!

I'm here to tell you about what makes the Kadoatie Cafe so great, and why you should consider paying it a visit yourself.

First, let's start with their namesake.

If you've never owned a Kadoatie personally, you have likely seen them at the Kadoatery in Neopia Central. However, many Neopians find the Kadoatery too crowded and feel unable to truly appreciate the Kadoaties in such a cramped space.

The Kadoatie Cafe gets around this by bringing attention to Kads in need inside a fun, cozy environment. Most of the Kadoaties present are eligible for adoption and fostering as former residents of the Kadoatery themselves.

If any of this sounds concerning so far, you have nothing to fear. The Kadoatie Cafe sees regular visits from the Petpet Protection League and rigorously follows their regulations to ensure the Kadoaties are raised with the best love and care they can provide.

Kadoaties are screened beforehand to see if they have a suitable temperament for their cafe environment. Some Kads could be sensitive to the noise that a busy restaurant brings, or dislike being pet by patrons. While petting a Kadoatie can greatly reduce stress, it's important that the Kad is okay with it too! Nobody wants a very tall stranger repeatedly patting their heads all the time, do they?

It is essential to approach Kadoaties with respect in the cafe. If you aren't experienced in reading their body language, that's okay! The cafe staff will be happy to offer advice, though there are some simple rules such as not picking up or chasing the Kadoaties. Newer Kads wear colour-coded collars to show that they are still acclimating and may require extra care when approached.

I had a lot to learn by speaking with the cafe staff, who were kind enough to recommend Petpet supplies for my own Neohome. Entertainment is very important for Kads, so I bought a Kadoatie Teaser and Springy Mootix Toy at their suggestion. Kadoatie Food Storage is what they use for all of the Kadoatie's portions, as it's thoroughly Kad-proof. You'll also notice various scratching posts spread across the cafe lounge.

With that said, we can't neglect the delicious offerings that the Kadoatie Cafe provides.

They are most known for their selection of baked goods. To cater to everyone, they sell various flavors of cookies and cakes. Whether it be from Neopian Fresh Foods or The Bakery, these treats are said to be made fresh every morning! If you'd like to try their Kadoatie Biscuits, you'll want to show up early since they sell out quick.

Their most unique offering is their latte featuring a Kadoatie face made from milk foam that can't be found anywhere else in Neopia. They also offer several flavours of bubble tea alongside their coffee. If you can't decide and want a little bit of everything, their Kadoatie Cafe Treat Tray is perfect for you.

Though their sweet offerings are more popular, they do provide a few savoury options like salads and sandwiches. They even have Kadoatie Pepper Pots to add a sprinkle of fun to your meal.

Here's a personal tip: Make sure to watch your food. Kadoaties can be opportunistic rascals! Don't look them in the eye if they begin begging for treats. I promise that the cafe staff takes great care of them.

If you'd like to watch the Kadoaties eat or participate in feeding them yourself, arrive at the listed meal times in the cafe's schedule. During these periods, all Kads are fed in the cafe lobby at once. Patrons are permitted to take pictures from afar if they choose. I like to play a game where I think about which Kadoatie will finish eating first.

Now that I've given you a better idea of what to expect, it's time to arrange a visit.

Like The Golden Dubloon and Kelp, the Kadoatie Cafe can only handle so many customers at once. They have a very limited seating capacity even before considering walk-ins. After all, they don't want to be too crowded: Kads appreciate having more space.

Try to book a reservation in advance, otherwise it can be a long wait as a walk-in. The cafe provides lockers so don't worry about getting Kadoatie fur on your belongings. Expect to pay an admission fee before entry, whether you make a reservation or not. As anyone who volunteers at the Kadoatery knows, it isn't cheap to keep so many Kadoaties happy, healthy and fed on a regular basis!

Even if you don't plan on involving yourself deeply with the Kadoaties or food, just soaking in the ambience is very relaxing. You could watch other Neopians and follow their example, or simply sit back for the entire visit. Thanks to their natural curiosity and cuteness, Kadoaties are pretty entertaining to watch on their own.

I believe I've covered everything I wanted to mention. I hope that I've been informative and you're now excited to visit the Kadoatie Cafe on your own for a paw-sitively Kad-tastic experience.

By the way, I hear cafe employees get free access to snacks and drinks behind the scenes? Maybe I should look into working there myself. Would my fur even look good in braids...?
