Everything About: Faerieland Magic Academy

by omgsinho

--------

Hello! I'm Kaia, you may know me as the faerie from Shenkuu. I've foreseen your interest to know more about the Faerieland Magic Academy and its particularities. Well, I can gladly help you with that. It's been 7 years since the Wraith Ressurgence happened and I'm finally finishing my doctorate in Sight Ability. I'm living my biggest dream: next year I'll be a Professor at the Academy. I couldn't be happier. Ok, now let's get back to the subject. I've selected the most asked questions about the FMA.

     1. Do you need to be a faerie to enter the Academy?

No. But one thing is important: you have to have an ability. Magical ability, specifically. Which means, considering the beings in Neopia: faeries, shamans, wizards, warlocks, sorceresses, sensitives and even witches (if they behave, of course) are welcome in the Academy. If you're one of these listed options, feel free to subscribe to our Entrance Exam.

     2. And how exactly do you enter the Academy?

You'll have to attend the Entrance Exam. It has four stages and happens inside the campus in Faerieland.

     a) The First Stage - Knowledge (approx. 200 candidates)

It's a written examination. The subject of this exam involves both personal open questions and faerieland knowledge. I suggest you read the book "Culture and History of Faerieland" (I know it's not the most affordable price but if you're lucky enough you'll probably find a copy to read inside the Faerieland Bookshop for free!) or if you prefer, read every single "All About" faerie book. You'll have to get a B+ to pass to the next stage.

     b) The Second Stage - Elements (approx. 50 candidates)

The second part of the exam is basically an introduction to faerie abilities. As you may be familiar with because of the Battledome, there are six of them: fire, water, air, earth, light and dark. You'll explore every single one of them and find out which element most fits with you. Sometimes the candidates can't find one at all, and this can eliminate them!

     c) The Third Stage - Spells (approx. 20 candidates)

Now with a much smaller team you'll have to work in groups to cast faerie spells. This stage is very important because faeries work in groups. The more magic that’s united the merrier for moments of crisis. The catch here is that if you can't work in a group, your spell won't be enough to pass to the next step and you'll probably be eliminated. So remember: team work, always!

     d) The Fourth Stage - Battle (approx. 10 candidates)

The last one. The most difficult one. You'll have to get by yourself to the end of the Field Maze. The problem is that at the end of the maze there's a gigantic monster bug-like named Goliath. It has big sharp teeth, four paws and four big yellow eyes. It's terrifying. If you're wondering how he's always getting back to life, he's created with Dark faerie dust and Darigan clay, yuck! If you defeat him, with everything learned through your journey, you've proven to The Council that you're a proper Academy student.

It's not an easy task, huh!? So if you manage to get to the Academy consider yourself intelligent, courageous and... pretty lucky!!

     3. Once you enter the Academy, how long is the whole course?

It consists of three years of study. First Year serves almost as an extension of the Entrance Exam's three earlier stages, you'll have introduction courses of spells, incantations, faerie artefacts, Faerieland culture and stuff. Second Year is centered on defense. Here your ability takes a bigger role and you're going to practice how to battle and how to improve the use of your ability. The Third and final Year, you'll be separated by your chosen element, also the field classes start and you'll get to go on missions with the teachers. If you're lucky enough, with some known faeries personalities, such as the very own, Illusen! How cool is that!!?

     4. Can you tell me about some of the classes that you take?

Oh my Coltzan, there are more than 100 classes available. You have to take at least 50 of them to graduate. The one I enjoyed the most was Battle Arts I with Professor Shyvara. Yes, the very same faerie that trained Aethia, the marvelous Battle faerie. She teaches us not only how to battle but how to create strategies to best use your inner power and ability. She's so kind and intelligent. I wonder how old she is... probably 300, at least!! I also had a blast with Faerie Petpets Particularities, we get to study and take care of Faerie Petpets. That's right, Faellies, Alkenores, Harris, Carmarillers, Feloreenas and all! They are so cute and perfect for being a combat companion.

     5. Does every single faerie/magical being need to attend the Academy?

No! Although the Academy is important for you to know your powers, element and to train your strategies, there are a lot of faeries that rejected the path of studies. There's even a famous one that you might know: Jhudora. She dropped out of the Academy in the middle of Second Year. She's managed to figure out all by herself how to conjure, cast spells and magic tricks! She can be a lot sometimes (haha) but even Illusen can't say she's a powerful faerie. The thing is, the Academy is not for everybody and that's A-OK!

     6. How is it to be a FMA scholar? Are the students nice there?

I won't lie to you... it can be tough. To me, it was challenging because most of the faeries were displeased with my image thanks to The Darkest Faerie. They can be very judgy. But I've made some amazing and strong friends there too, like Kari and Fyora. I will never forget them. The Faerie Queen helped me and believed in me and that was very important to my development! I'm very grateful.

I guess that sums up everything you need to know about the Faerieland Magic Academy. If you still have any doubts or want to know more about other subjects concerning the Academy, don't be afraid to contact me, just send me a Neomail or you can spot me at the Faerieland Bookshop - probably studying a lot and training for my thesis haha). Hopefully I can be your next teacher! Bye-bye!
