Out of the Blue: A Colourful Acara Guide

by bernardosz

--------

Close your eyes, and picture an Acara. Focus on the colour and the gender. You have probably imagined it as a female Blue Acara, right? And this is not random. If you’re around Neopia for a while, you may have noticed that Acaras (it’s pronounced “ack-AH-ra”) are usually portrayed as Blue and as females. Even though there are 72 from 81 available colours so far, specifically the Blue ones are more common than the other three basic colors (Red, Green, Yellow). Haven’t you noticed that yet? I’ll show you. But first, let me introduce you to this species.

Originally called Tigrens in the first version, the species changed its name and design together, with another three more re-designs to come and the fifth one being the 2005 converted version we see today. The fourth version is the “unconverted”, which is still found in Neopia in four specific colours: Darigan, Grey, Plushie and Royalboy. And talking about “Blue”, the base colours for the Darigan, Plushie and Royalboy are different shades of Blue.

Now, to the Blue Acaras. Neopia has nine really famous Acaras, with four being Blue:

     Mipsy

You may remember her from the quote “Well, I'm a wizard, as you may have guessed from my robe” while on NeoQuest II.

There are nine items related to her: The Mipsy Acara “set” (Mipsy Acara Hat, Mipsy Acara Robe, Mipsy Acara Shoes, Mipsy Acara Wand), the Mipsy Backpack (not wearable), Mipsy Plushie, Mipsy Stamp (from the NeoQuest II page which also gives you an avatar), Mipsy’s Charm Bracelet (Battledome item) and Mipsy’s Travel Memoirs of Exotic Beaches (book).

Her name is found four times in the Neopian Times, in the weeks: 351, 598, 650, 783.

     Princess Fernypoo

“Show me a gracious loser and I'll show you someone who gets beat a lot”. She is found usually playing her favorite game, Cheat! and also has a Blue Petpet, a Puppyblew called Muffy.

There are six items related to her: Fernypoo Battlecard (Battledome item), Gold Fernypoo Battlecard (Battledome item), Princess Fernypoo (Neodeck card), Princess Fernypoo Action Figure (toy), Princess Fernypoo Gown (wearable) and Silver Fernypoo Battlecard (Battledome item).

     Her name is found fourteen times in the Neopian Times, in the weeks: 1, 2, 29, 30, 31, 32, 51, 102, 109, 209, 353, 411, 510, 649.

          Roberta

“Hi there. Feel free to browse around, we have magical scrolls for almost every need”. You may know her as a humble shopkeeper in Brightvale’s Scrollery, but she is also a Princess, as King Hagan’s niece.

There are seven items related to her: About Roberta (book), Roberta of Brightvale (TCG), Roberta Plushie, Robertas Collectable Springtime Wig (wearable NC item), Robertas Collectors Contacts (wearable NC item), Robertas Collectors Veiled Wig (wearable NC item) and Stained Glass Roberta Window (Neohome item).

Her name is found four times in the Neopian Times, in the weeks: 227, 812, 845, 846.

     Ylana Skyfire

"Unless you're gonna pay me more than what Dr. Sloth has, your days are over". Formerly known as Ylana Claymore, she was born in a $75 million mansion, eventually foreclosed by the bank, so she ran away. As a bounty hunter in space, worked for Dr. Sloth until he was defeated.

There are twenty-three items related to her, but as the list is huge, I’ll just say a few. Six books (The Adventures of Ylana Skyfire, The Many Adventures of Ylana Skyfire, Ylana Skyfire Saves Halloween, Ylana Skyfire: Protector of Spring, Ylana Skyfires Valentines Day, Ylanas Summer Adventure Tales); five NC wearables (Flying Ylana Skyfire, Ylana Collectors Helmet, Ylana Skyfire Sitting Plushie, Ylanas Shirt and Scarf, Ylanas Trousers and Boots); four playable items (Ylana Skyfire Action Figure, Ylana Skyfire Plushie, Ylana Skyfire Wind Up Toy, Ylana Usuki); and, of course, the once heavily used Ylanas Blaster (Battledome item).

Her name is found three times in the Neopian Times, in the weeks: 325, 803, 820.

     --------

Other less notable Acara characters may include four others, with two of them being Blue: Professor Chesterpot, a member of the Seekers faction (Obelisk) and a renown explorer (helped in the discover of the Battledome, Maraqua and the Catacombs of Neopia Central); and Ginny, a character from Defenders of Neopia, who has his bike stolen by the Pant Devil. In Neopedia, there's also a (really) short story about two twin Acaras. Guess their colours? Yes, Blue! The ID is 116 and their names are Astrid and Ajay.

In the Neodeck, two of the four available cards are Blue Acaras. For Caption Contest, Acaras were spotted 54 times and Blue in 17 of those (31.48%), which is a big number as there are more than 80 colours available.

Wanna send a Blue Acara to a friend in form of a NeoGreeting? You can pick from five of the ten available Acara NeoGreetings! It’s half!

     --------

For items, Blue is also the most common colour between the four basic colours. From all the Acara items related to colors, “Blue Acara” has 16 items, while the others are 12 for green, 10 for red, 4 for yellow. The list of “Blue Acara” items is:

     Blue Acara (TCG)

And without “Blue” in the name, you can find mora Blue Acaras in the TCGs: Acara Acrobat (TCG) and Acara Treasure Seeker (TCG).

     --------

And out of curiosity, to complete the RGB Acara Collection, you should know that no Red Acaras are famous, but Green has one: Masila, a member of the Thieves Guild (Obelisk).

For the items, as stated before, the list of Red Acara Items is smaller, with ten items:

     Red Acara (TCG)

     Red Acara Ball

     Red Acara Balloon

     Red Acara Comb

     Red Acara Key Quest Token

     Red Acara Morphing Potion

     --------

Well, in a universe of 366 Acara items (including 50 Paint Brush Clothing and 3 unreleased items, all being books), those individual numbers may seem small, but it can provide your themed gallery a nice touch if you create categories for them!
