10 Reasons to Recycle in Neopia

          Clutter, clutter everywhere and not a breath to breathe. Have you ever taken your woodland Uni for a walk, only for her wing branches to acquire a haunting of trash of their own? You lovely earthen Uni has turned to her own personal trash receptacle? That’s not pretty Neopia! Recycling that ole Fake Plastic Rod of Nova is a much better option than throwing it away to be forever in a landfill NOT magically zapping things, since it’s, well, fake. The more we recycle, the more lovely, lush and lively green can purely shine in the bright Neopian sun. The oxygen that greenery like trees allow for the lovely, fresh air Neopia is known for.

          It’s almost spring, and it’s really time for a reset in your Neohome. Spring cleaning is upon us. I recently checked our closet and realized that my Fuzzle collection is a bit dusty and in need of some cleanup. Without Charity Corner this year, my Safety Deposit Box is looking a bit tight too. Minimizing clutter and living a simpler life is an amazing way to pay it forward to other Neopians at the Money tree!

          A cleaner environment is a brighter, more beautiful and purer Maraqua, Krawk Island, and Mystery Island beach fronts. Have you ever tried to take a beach walk in the moonlight, only to stub your toe on an Aluminum Nerkmid? OUCH! The sharp edges are no joke either. Sandy fun, clear water and pristine beaches make these islands an absolute gem of summer nature destinations for all Neopians!

          GREEN! You got it- it’s such a fantastic colour. Recycling can be super stylish! Finding old Neocash outfits in your closet can really recycle your wardrobe. I recently found an Evil Twin Goatee in my closet that has been rocking my outfit’s world!

          Recycling food purchased at the health foods store by composting is an utterly amazing way to recycle healthy food! Grab a Worms and Dirt Sundae and start your own composting station in your NeoHome Neogarden! If you are stuck with the process, simply find an older Neopian with Habitarium experience. They are true pros at the ins and outs of composting. If you can tolerate the smell while reading, I also recommend Compost Dung Right, by Neopian legend Sir Stink-A-Lot. I’ve never read - or smelled - such an interesting take on composting. Less food waste is less in Neopian landfills- plus the soil is perfect for growing Jar of Seeds (just watch out for the Bad Seed- trust me!!!).

          Check out the Igloo Garage Sale! Second-hand shopping or thrifting is a frugal way to save energy and raw material costs for producing new items. These used items are usually more durable since they’ve already stood the test of one Neopian household. I personally love to entertain my pets with thrifted books. I recently found a book of sarcastic, and somewhat unsavoury jokes called Bagatelle Joke Book. While clutching the used book with the image of a 5 o’clock (or 6, 7, 8 o’clock…) shadow, moonybluebutt2 simply rolls with laughter.

          There is a higher frequency of morphing potion availability. Moony was just speaking to Kauvara the other night, and she was surprised at the number of morphing potions that are used, but the glass bottles are not returned or recycled. The starry Kau is a magnificent potion master but struggles with the availability of glass in a volatile marketplace. This is leading her to think about developing a glass take back event- so make sure to read the Neopian Times for times and locations near you!

          Minimizing toys and grooming items for pets is another great way to recycle. Let’s be honest, how many Babaa Eye Shadows, Award winner glow sparkling powder puff, Donut bath bombs and Aisha Compact Mirrors does your pet really need? Find a way to reduce, recycle or reuse- even think about sharing with a Neofriend or hosting a grooming products sharing event where half-used products are dispersed among participants in order to lessen the footprint of waste. A fun spa day is a great alternative to a long day at the Neopian Mall buying things you may or may not actually use.

          Think about sending an electronic Neogreeting to your Neofriends! Neogreetings are such an amazing way to lessen the effect paper has. Paper and Bubble wrap is such fun and they definitely have their place, but once a month instead of using physical paper for your pen pal in Virtupets Space Station, maybe try a Neogreeting instead. There are actually ten different Illusion-themed Neogreetings to communicate and educate your friend about why you are occasionally trying an alternate form of communication.

          Do an Illusen Faerie Quest! Illusen is really excellent at taking the items she requests from you, and actually recycling them for the beautification of the Earth after. She is in fact, an Earth Faerie! Doing a quest for Illusen is a sure-fire way to know that the items you are grabbing are going to a fantastic place (much more so than that awful Jhudora’s quests!).
