10 Ways To Have Fun Without Flash

     Neoboards - There are 26 different public boards to post on, each with their own set of regular users and occasionally their own board culture. It’s a fun way to get to know your fellow Neopians, and you can give yourself a unique look with avatars and signatures. Even if you’re not the chatty type, it’s fun to lurk on the boards and see people talk.

     Gallery - Starting a gallery is a great way to build out your account and give you something to do. You can find items you’ve never heard of on your quest to collect whatever you’d like! While some galleries range from “food made out of jelly” to “plushies”, you can get some interesting ideas out of it like “all red items” or “items coloured with gradients”. The possibilities are endless!

     Stamp/Card Collecting - /b-no tags here- Similar to the Gallery mentioned above, there’s something very addicting about stamp/card collecting. Once you start putting them in place, it’s hard to stop wanting to find more to fill out your albums. The fact that they also display on your userlookup for others to see is a nice bonus, and you can even get some (very hard to obtain) avatars from having complete stamp album pages. It’s a very, very pricey goal but seeing that full page is so satisfying.

     Non-Flash Games - While they can show their age a bit, these games are still fun and still totally playable. Some of them can give you avatars (such as Gormball or Dice-A-Roo) or easy trophies (such as Cheat!), and the fact that they all load up new pages during gameplay means you get a boosted chance for random events during them! Enjoy the crippling frustration of Pyramids or Sakhmet Solitaire, but have fun while you do so.

     Neoquest - This one technically falls under “Non-Flash Games”, but I think it deserves its own category. Personally I didn’t start playing it until a few months ago, and it’s very, very fun. There are two of them, and both are long and immersive. No matter your schedule, the fact that you can just pick up right where you left off is a huge plus.

     Guilds - Like the Neoboards, these are a great way to interact with other players on the site. Lots of guilds have members-only activities and events, and of course they all have their own chat boards as well. It’s a nice way to know other like-minded players since there are plenty of guilds themed around specific things like trophy collecting or certain pet species or colours.

     Avatar Collecting - I know what you’re thinking, “but there are so many avatars that are tied to Flash games, and now we can’t get them!”. Well, the good news is there are several hundred that have nothing to do with playing games. I would know, I only have one or two Flash game avatars to my name and the bulk of my collection is from other things around the site. As I mentioned previously, you can get some of them from some of the non-Flash games like Dice-A-Roo or Gormball and things like collecting certain stamps, but there’s plenty that require owning a certain pet, or going to a hidden location. Lots of them are easily obtainable and a fun way to hunt for around the site.

     Quests - As any Neopian should know, you can get a lot of Faerie quests from exploring the site like normal. But of course, there are also certain people who will give you different quests each day, like the Brain Tree, Esophagor, or Kitchen Quests. And then we have Illusen and Jhudora, who can give you powerful and rare items if you’re lucky enough to complete their requests. It’s no easy feat to reach level 50 for each of them, so it’ll give you something to do. Illusen and Jhudora also give trophies and avatars for their quests, so that’s a nice bonus.

     Art - If you’re wanting to flex your creative muscles, you can try your hand at getting into the Art Gallery or Beauty Contest! Not only does it give you some nice incentive with trophies for yourself and your pets (plus other fabulous prizes for getting into the Art Gallery, or an avatar for the Beauty Contest), it’s a really fun way to interact with the site outside of your computer or phone. There’s always themed days to draw for in the Art Gallery, and it’s nice to draw your pets and give them life outside of the screen.

     Write for the Neopian Times - And of course, you can get your Neopets fill by writing for the Neopian Times! Articles or comics or short stories, there’s no better way to reach your fellow Neopians than the Times. There are so many things to write about on Neopets, and you just might be struck with inspiration from unexpected places (like having to suggest some things to do while we’re in the middle of a site revamp). Whether you’re a pro writer or a complete newbie, it’s a good time to just get your brain going and let your imagination run wild over all of Neopia!

     I hope this gives you some ideas of how to entertain yourself around the site while we patiently wait for our favourite games and features to come back! I know it may seem like a long time to wait, but there’s plenty of things to do on Neopets, and that’s why we love it.
