Nine Ways to Neo-Flex!

by costumely

--------

Do you want to amaze your friends and earn the begrudging respect of your enemies? If so, keep reading! If you aren't familiar with the lingo those Y22 kids use, a "flex" or "flexing" is slang for bragging or showing off. In this article, I'll cover some of the most difficult, most impressive accomplishments in Neopia. Do one of these, and you're sure to be the talk of your next dinner party!

     1) Max out a Pet's Stats

You may have sent your pets to do a few classes at the Swashbuckling Academy or the Mystery Island Training School. But did you know there's a maximum number for Strength Defense, and Movement? A brief explanation: how much damage your pet does depends on their stats, but the correlation is not linear. Pets with 125 Strength does as much damage per icon as those with 175 Strength (3 per icon). At the max boost, 750, a pet will do 16 damage per icon! Increasing your pet's strength past this will not make them more effective in the Battledome. As you can imagine, only a few have the dedication, patience, not to mention Neopoints train to this level.

     2) Complete a Stamp Page

You might be thinking: hey, stamp collecting is lame! Not in Neopia, where it takes skill and wealth. There are 40 different pages in your Stamp Album, each with a maximum of 25 stamps. Each page has a variety of stamps: some will take quick fingers to restock, while others might have been given out as event prizes or even through competitions, like Lenny Conundrum. Some are so rare, there are probably fewer than a hundred in existence! In any case, finishing a page is not an easy task at all. There are even avatars associated with completing some pages; the cheapest of these, Stamp Collector - Sea Shells, will cost you 50 million Neopoints!

     3) Get the Top Avatar Collector Avatar

Of course there's an avatar for collecting avatars! This coveted avatar, a yellow star on a blue background, is awarded for reaching the Top 50 for the Neoboard Avatar Collector high score table. In the past few months, the lowest score it was awarded for was anywhere between 346 to 350 avatars. This avatar shows your commitment to avatar collecting, even the most difficult game avatars or the avatars that are only awarded on the fourth Sunday of a leap-year, that sort of thing. Displaying this avatar on the Neoboards means you have a mixture of gaming skill and assorted other talents, such as battling with your pet, poetry, or even telling jokes!

     4) Own an Unconverted Pet

Unconverted pets are pets with a different art or pose than other pets. What makes them special is that they could not be created after the introduction of customization in 2007. As a result, there are only a limited number of unconverted pets in Neopia. If you own one, that's a sign that you've been around for a long time.

     5) Earn Your Pet a Gourmet Club Trophy

Points in the Gourmet Club, Neopia's most elite gastronomic institution, are awarded by feeding your pet foods with rarities between 90 and 100. Relatedly, these are also some of the more expensive foods Neopia has to offer since higher rarities restock less often. Getting onto the high score table requires feeding your pet close to 1000 of these foods! If you see a pet with the Gourmet Club badge displayed on their petlookup, you know their owner feeds them like a king. Given King Skarl's diet (I have seen leftovers from his feasts before), your pet might even be eating better than a king!

     6) Get the Tax Beast Trophy

Every once in a while, you could get a Random Event in which the Tax Beast takes up 10% of your on-hand Neopoints. Sometimes, he's in a bad mood and could even take 25% instead! Most Neopians dread his visit; after all, it's no fun to lose your hard-earned NP. However, did you know there's a high score table- and associated trophy- for losing the most money to the Tax Beast? If you have the gold Tax Beast or Angry Tax Beast trophy, that means you have enough cash that you can carry millions around on-hand, instead of your bank! At the time of writing, the Tax Beast top score was over 2 million Neopoints lost. The Angry Tax Beast minimum (yes, it's a separate trophy) was even higher! It's a weird flex, but undeniably impressive.

     7) Win the Userlookup Spotlight

Ah, the spotlights, which showcase everything from galleries to Petpets. Sure, winning nets you a trophy, but the real prize is all the eyes on you and your talents. The userlookup spotlight is especially cool, because it can show off your coding abilities as well as your creative ones. Whether it's drawing an image or some clever graphic design, the userlookup spotlight is a way to get the attention of everyone who reads the news- which is just about everybody!

     8) This entry has been redacted the behest of the Meepits. Rest assured that the Meepits did not think this entry was a flex at all.

     9) Write for the Neopian Times!

I might be biased, but I think this is the coolest achievement of all. After all, getting an article, short story, or comic into the Neopian Times means you are immortalized in Neopian history. You can go through the archives even today and see the efforts of creative spirits all the way back to Y6. You might also get a neat avatar in the process: the Neopian Times Star avatar is awarded after 10 submissions, and the Neopian Times Writer is given out for appearing in a 50th issue of the Neopian Times (ex. issue 850, or 900). Even more than any prize, an entry in the Neopian Times is a way to share something important to you- whether that's a joke in a comic or a how-to guide on restocking- with the world.

The Move
For the Creep family, the moving process was an awful one. No one was expecting it, heck, no one wanted it, but Hannah thought it would be a good idea to bring the family together in one big neohome to bond better.
