For a Greener Neopia

by water_park1993

--------

Neopia and the future of its environment is such a difficult but crucial subject. Queen Fyora took it upon herself to commission a new campaign - which this article forms part of - in order to ensure that all Neopians are aware of what they can do. Our environment is fragile and it needs to be kept clean, by and for every Neopian being. I am here to help Fyora in her difficult quest - no pun intended - and I have come up with some solutions for every Neopian to perform in order to make Fyora’s campaign a success. You realise how clean soil and fresh air means healthier Neopians! After reading this article, you will know how to help save Neopia.

1. Donate, don’t discard

One Neopian’s trash is another Neopian’s treasure

Not many people know what happens when you discard an item. Not many people even care about it. Those discarded items end up in the garbage dump. For this article, I was given a pass to go into the dump in order to assess the situation myself. It's a scary place. There are items everywhere. From broken fishing rods to various berries and fish, tombola prizes, dung, and a ton of other junk. There are mutant Miamice, mutant Psimice, Meepits and even a Meowclops. And what happens to this junk? Nothing. Yes, you read that right. Nothing happens to it. It just sits there. Occasionally, an item will decompose, but that takes a very long time, and it is harmful to Neopian soil. Do you want to know how you can help? Donate the items that you would discard! The Money Tree will gladly take them and keep them until someone in need will snatch it.

You know what they say: One Neopian’s trash is another Neopian’s treasure, and it is true! Just donate that junk, leaving the soil clean, making another Neopian happy!

2. Start a Gallery

Ever wanted that spotlight trophy?

Another solution to your hoard of items that you no longer have a use for is to start a gallery with them. Let's say you have a lot of jelly - although I am unsure where you would find any since there's no world made out of jelly - that you don't want to feed to your Neopets. You could start a jelly themed gallery, it’s that easy! Too much jelly not your problem? Here are some more gallery theme ideas: ‘Dance that Fun-Dung-o’, obviously a dung (and dance?) themed gallery. ‘Fish fingers and custard’, obviously a fish (and custard and doctor?) themed gallery. Lastly ‘Berry-Go-Round and Round and Round’, a berry themed (and circles?) themed gallery.

You can open up a gallery themed out of anything you want! The possibilities are endless. So, get that brain working, and save the whole of Neopia.

3. Send that junk back to where it came from

Back to the past they go

So, are you so much filled up with fish that your neighbour has started to complain? Then why don’t you take them back home, underwater? Got too much Omelette to feed a whole castle of Eliv Thades? Kindly take it back to the Tyrannia plateau, when a poor Neopet might be starving, while no more Omelette is left. Too much Jelly? Erm...Well, you are on your own, I can’t help with that one.

You realise that you can send pretty much anything back from where it came from, giving other Neopians a chance to find it and use it as they please. Why let it rot and get destroyed and deteriorate in any other way while you are destroying the environment?

4. Sell them in your shop

Sell, sell, SELL!

You still haven't found a way to rid yourself of those items that you don't want in an environmentally friendly way? Well here's a solution that you can profit from sell them in a strategic way. Sure, they may only sell for a few Neopoints, but that's a few more Neopoints that you can put towards a goal you have! I know that doesn't sound like much, but let's say you, for whatever reason, have 100 ‘Doctor Sloth floss’ each selling for 10 Neopoints each. You sell them, and make 1000 Neopoints. Then, you invest those Neopoints in stocks that sell for 15 Neopoints. Let's say you buy 66 shares. You then wait until they are worth 100 Neopoints each. Sell them and earn 6,600 Neopoints! East, isn’t it?

You can either keep those Neopoints or continue buying and selling stocks, while you keep selling your junk on the side. But enough with the stock tips, this isn't a guide to playing the stock market!

5. Put that junk in your Safety Deposit Box

Safe and Save - and not Smelly

Just leaving items in your Inventory means that the item can rot, disappear or get stolen. Those items should in no way accidentally damage the environment. Another very easy solution is to keep them safe and sound in your Safety Deposit Box. From there, you can wait until the value of the item has inflated, where you can now sell it to maximise your profits. It is a win-win situation, both for Neopia as well as for you.

Who knows? Maybe an item you thought was junk then could be worth millions one day!

6. Tend to your Neogarden

Beautify Neopia

I am certain that everyone has a Neohome - where do you live after all. I'm sure it's beautiful inside, with its decorations and expensive rugs. But how much attention do you pay to the outside? Do you have a Neogarden? If you don't, you should urgently create one. You can plant trees and other beautiful plants which help the soil and our Neopian atmosphere. In addition, they're pretty!

Another advantage is that you get a place to put all of that kelp you reel in while fishing! What's better than that?

7. Feed them

If they're edible!

Feeding edible (well with the exclusion of Graarls and Skeiths) items to your pets, make both you and the environment happy. It is better to feed a jelly, an omelette or anything other edible junk, than let it rot on the ground. Feeding is a great way to get rid of the spare food and provides the perfect moment for some bonding with your pet. So, get those edible junk out of your Inventory and throw a Neohome party!

In any way you see it and whichever solution you decide to follow, the profit is yours and only yours. The outcome will surely be a healthier Neopian life and probably some extra Neopoints in the bank. Follow these rules and let’s make Fyora’s quest a success!
