Hidden in the Faerie Caverns

by xxcandystylexx

--------

"Do I have to? Do I really have to?" I asked my owner.

Sophie gave me a firm look and nodded. "It's not scary, don't worry. You only have to take 3 turns and you'll be there. If you can find your way in the caverns, then you will be awarded with a prize. Just picture it, Laffy_Taffy! You can get beautiful glowing wings! Or a faerie caverns stamp! Just imagine the possibilities!"

I looked at my wistful owner and sighed. "All right, all right. I'll go."

Sophie squealed with delight and paid the 400 NP for me to enter the caverns. I entered the dark cave all alone for the first time. I glanced over my shoulder to see Sophie cheering for me, and managed to give her a weak smile.

I'm doing this for her, I thought. I can do it. A dark cave isn't that scary. It's not like there's ghosts or bats hanging around or anything. Just think happy thoughts. Yeah, happy thoughts.

The road I was walking on now split into two. Which road should I take? One road has flowers that lit up and the other does not. Is the flowers suppose to guide me? Or are they trying to trick me? Or are they trying to trick me into thinking they trick me? Wait what? I'm so scared I don't even make sense anymore. I shrugged and headed toward the road that was lit up by flowers. The light will guide me, and even if it's the wrong road at least it's not a dark road. However, the flowers soon died out after a few steps. Once more the road was split again with the same options. I continued to choose the path that was lighted up by flowers and kept walking. What seems like forever, the road split one last time. This is it. One of these roads is going to guide me to the treasure. The road with bright flowers have yet to fail me. I headed down that road expecting to see the treasure, but only to have the road divided into two.

I stopped puzzled. Sophie told me I only have to choose three paths, yet there's four. Was she misinformed?

All of a sudden, I hear a noise. I gasped and looked around. My heart starts to race and my palms become sweaty.

"Is someone there?" I asked hoarsely.

A fire faerie emerged from the shadow looking bewildered. "Who are you? Why are you in here?"

"My name is Laffy_Taffy. I'm in here to find the treasure. Why are you in here?"

The fire faerie suddenly looked very nervous and gave me weak smile. "I'm uh doing inspection of the cave. Yeah that's right. I have to make sure these caves are safe so no one gets hurt."

I looked at her skeptically. Why is a fire faerie doing inspection? I've never even heard of such thing! In her hand she held a mining tool, and on her head she wore a mining hat.

"Why do you have mining tools? " I asked cautiously.

"The Faerie Queen decided she wanted to make the faerie caverns harder so she asked me to come down here and make some more paths. I'm Fauna, by the way." she answered.

Maybe I was just paranoid. She's a faerie, she has to be good.

"I was wondering if you know the way out? I think my owner will start to get worry if I'm not out soon."

"Sure thing! I'll just create a road out for you." she said happily. Too happily.

Fauna took her mining tool and hit it against the rocks. The rocks crumbled down one by one. Something shiny gleamed through the crevices. With one mighty blow, the rock wall came down.

We both gasped aloud. I looked at her and all I see was greed.

She cackled and it echoed throughout the cave. I felt my shoulders shuddering. My legs and wings refused to obey and I stood as still as a statue.

Fauna turned towards me and grinned evilly. Her disguise wear off and in front of me stood a dark faerie.

"Who are you really?" I stuttered.

"You don't need to know my name. All you need to know is that treasure in front of you belongs to ME. If you don't want to be turned into a frog, I suggest you'll disappear from my sight immediately." she threatened.

I don't know what came over me but I blurted out, "No."

      "No?" she repeated in disbelief.

"No. I will not let you get away with this. This treasure belongs to the hopeful Neopians that paid 400 NP each day to enter these caves. I was suspicious of you from the very beginning! You're not here to inspect the caves, you're here to cheat your way into finding the treasure." I accused.

She chuckled amusingly. "You're a smart one aren't you?"

"I am an ultimate genius. I have read a total of 253 books." I said smugly.

"Then let's battle. The winner will get the treasure." she challenged.

I pulled out my battle faerie dagger and throwing cutlass.

She drew out her wand of the dark faerie.

I attacked her first and she lost 10 HP. She struck her wand at me and I lost 15 HP. It went like this back and forth until we were down to only 1 HP each.

I was starting to get tired. She is still able to heal herself but I have run out of healing potions. There is no way I could win this. I have to think, but I was too tired too think. With my last strength, I attacked her. Then I blacked out.

"Laffy_Taffy! Laffy_Taffy! Please wake up!" a voice whispered softly.

My eyes struggled to open and the first thing I saw was Sophie. She sighed in relief and hugged me. "I was so worried about you. I'm so sorry. I let the treasure go to my head and forgot about what matters the most. Treasure comes and go, but friends are here forever."

I smiled at her and nodded. "What happened though? All I could remember was blacking out."

"You didn't come out for a really long time, so me and the faerie keeper entered through the cave to see you and a dark faerie lying on the ground. I was so scared, so I rushed you to the Neopian Hospital immediately. Also it turns out that they've been looking for that dark faerie for awhile now. They thanked you for defeating her." Sophie explained.

I sighed in relief. I managed to defeat the faerie and protect the treasure.

"Thank you very much, Laffy_Taffy." said a mysterious voice.

I looked behind Sophie to see the Faerie Queen. I gasped and Sophie bowed.

"On behalf of Faerieland, I would like to reward you with a gift." Fyora said.

"Oh no. I don't need a gift. Your thanks is enough." I urged.

"Nonsense! Tell me, what color would you like to be painted?" Fyora asked.

"Well if it wouldn't be too much trouble, I have dreamed to be an Eventide Shoyru." I answered shyly.

With a smile she granted my wish.

      The End.
