Neopia's Secret Villains: Part Three

by asparagation

--------

Neopia is filled with hundreds of characters. These characters range from brave heroes to dastardly villains, and everything in between. The Gallery of Heroes describes the former: characters like Neopia’s protector, the Space Faerie, or the repentant Commander Gormos. Perhaps even more well known are the villains of Neopia. Hunted down and defeated by the Defenders of Neopia, these villains are well known due to the terrifying Gallery of Evil. This gallery, along with the Defenders of Neopia missions, attempts to warn Neopians of all possible dangers and villains they could come across. There’s one problem though – not all villains are recognised as the true villains that they are.

In this special third and final edition of Neopia’s Secret Villains, I will expose two more of the most nefarious characters in Neopia who have somehow gone unnoticed. Both of these villains are similar in that their villainy centers on acts of cruelty towards petpets, and I’m not talking about the lab ray scientist, who is most certainly a known villain. Although these two villains share some similarities in their heinous acts, their public perception is vastly different. One is a beloved hero, and the other is viewed as a harmless, but nutty presence. The two villains featured in this final expose are Jhuidah, and the Kiss the Mortog Grundo.

I’ll begin with Jhuidah. Jhuidah is a unique faerie, not one for questing or battling, but a free-spirited island faerie. She can be found nowadays running the cooking pot on Mystery Island, as well as overseeing the Trading Post. Jhuidah was featured prominently over a decade ago, when she was one of a group of five, known as the guardians of the volcano, who went missing. Many Neopians helped track her down and saved her from an evil shaman. You’d think that would be enough to warrant she’d perform no evil upon Neopia, but apparently not.

So far we’ve looked at Carassa, who preys on her partner, the White Weewoo, who preys on Neopians, but Jhuidah is most certainly the worst of the three. Not only because she’s in such a prominent position of power and respect, but also because she preys on those unable to defend themselves: petpets. When you travel to Mystery Island, you may go on a Tiki Tour, play some beach volleyball, hand out at the rockpool, or spend an unsettling hour with the Island Mystic; whatever you do, however, do not visit the cooking pot. This is Jhuidah’s domain, and this is where her villainy comes out.

Firstly, there is a skull just sitting there, right at the base of the cooking pot. Seriously, how has nobody looked into this faerie before? Secondly, some of the things she allows you to brew are jokes. Jhuidah can turn pleasent foods into inedible disasters like no other, and I’m sure she takes pleasure in it. Whilst the above simply make Jhuidah a creepy pest, it is the secondary function of the cooking pot that moves Jhuidah into villain territory.

Jhuidah allows, nay, encourages, you to place petpets in her cooking pot in order to create a new species. Jhuidah experiments on these poor innocent creatures to see what new creation she can make. Can you imagine the terror those poor petpets feel as they morph into something else? This callous disregard for petpets feelings cements Jhuidah’s status as one of Neopia’s foremost unrecognised villains.

The Kiss the Mortog Grundo is a villain of a similar vein, if they are much less renowned. The Grundo can be found in Meridell among a pond of Mortogs. Unlike Jhuidah, who clearly has planned her villainy carefully, this Grundo is just a little bit insane, although that doesn’t mean he isn’t a villain in his own right.

In Kiss the Mortog, the Grundo takes your neopoints and allows you to kiss one of his mortogs, which has a high chance of promptly exploding. It’s a mystery how he hasn’t been shut down already. This Grundo literally takes a payment and allows his pets to explode. On that note – who are these people who keep paying to explode petpets, and how are they getting away with it? My biggest query is where does this Grundo keep getting his Mortogs from? The Grundo must have thousands upon thousands in order to keep up with demand, most of which he’s likely to have obtained in devious manners.

On the off chance that a kissed Mortog doesn’t explode, it will turn into a prince or a princess. This shows that not only has the Grundo obtained thousands of regular warty Mortogs, but he has also somehow whisked away countless royal youths, and somehow swiftly turned them into slimy, smelly, warty Mortogs too. It is clear that the Kiss the Mortog Grundo possesses a dangerous indifference to the feelings of both Neopian monarchy and countless slippery green petpets. Due to this blatant disregard for the needs of the royalty (to not be Mortogs) and the Mortogs (to not explode), it is obvious that this insane Grundo belongs in the halls of infamy.

The Petpet Protection League has clearly let the ball drop in these cases of petpet safety. It’s possibly they’re all still distracted trying to put an end to the Snowbeast Snackrifice game up on Terror Mountain. Whatever the reason for the lapse in action, these two villains, Jhuidah and the Kiss the Mortog Grundo, have been able to get away with their misdemeanors for far too long.

Whilst Neopia has a litany of villains who are heavily discussed and reviled, there are some villains that have somehow been able to avoid the spotlight. At the conclusion of this expose on Neopia’s Secret Villains, I hope to have enlightened the general population, as well as the Defenders of Neopia, to these nefarious characters, who are mistakenly admired, revered, or simply not talked about. From Carassa, the piano throwing, snow-loving yellow Chia, to the devious, friendship-destroying White Weewoo, to the two petpet abusers discussed above, Jhuidah and the Kiss the Mortog Grundo – these Neopians are villains, no doubt, so take care.

To Succeed is to Fail: Chapter Two
Fear me not. Hmm, I rather enjoy those three words. They provoke feelings of intense emotion at rather opposite extremes. I am telling you not to fear me. You, listener, should take comfort in the idea that "me", as an entity, will not harm you. I am here merely to entertain you, to provide you with a convoluted, yet surreal tale.
