Pesky Game Avatars - Snow Wars II Edition

by fr0zenpeanut

--------

It's almost that time of the year! Winter festivities and snow are going to be upon us in no time (or maybe already are!) So let's get a new avatar to show off for the occasion! I always thought this avatar was one that set people apart as "good at games." So I brushed it off like "Nah I'll never get that, I'll just go play Meerca Chase II for the billionth time and hope I get 2 Fish Neggs." But! You'll be amazed what you can achieve when you put a little time and effort into it. You don't have to be all that good at games when you go about playing in the right way. No time to waste, I'll go ahead and break down the game into the two main parts!

Your Snowmen

These are the guys you're trying to protect! There are five of them, but in order to protect them efficiently they need to be in good spots. That means not too close to the frozen river that's going across, and definitely not on the other side. You want to group as many as you can together too. You'll probably have to restart the game a lot of times to get a good setup going. If you aren't sure how well something will work, just play a few games and you'll see the strengths and weaknesses pretty quickly. But, once you get one you think will work, click fast. Very fast. CLICK LIKE THE WIND. You have a time limit, don't waste it! Don't worry you get time between each round to rebuild and build around the other snowmen but you want to get as many protected as you can, quickly! When I asked for tips people said try to get all five or at least four snowmen in the first go but I only got two on my avatar-winning game so as long as you can protect them eventually, you should be okay. Once you get them all protected, just start building up your walls like crazy. It can make it harder to see where the gaps you need to close are sometimes, but it also makes it so that sometimes you don't even need to fill in gaps at all. Any spare time you have after rebuilding your walls, just place blocks where ever they will fit.

The blocks can be tricky to place, especially as the game progresses and you get bigger shapes to place. At first though, you'll mostly get one block, two blocks, one long shape, and a corner piece. Pretty easy, yeah? Later you'll get one shaped like a cross, one shaped like a Z, and another one that's three blocks long with one sticking out. They're the ones that can be harder to place, but don't panic trying to figure out how to fit it in the gap that you need to close and waste all your time. Just place it elsewhere on the map. Sometimes I'd just stick extra pieces I had no idea what to do with on the other side of the river just to get them out of the way quickly. As you're playing, try to keep an eye out on where your walls are damaged enough that your snowmen are no longer protected. Wasting time trying to figure out which corner isn't closed all the way in can seriously hurt you, and maybe end your game. Speaking of the corners, those are usually what get you and are less obvious. Two blocks diagonally from each other is not considered completely protected, it has to be all the way closed in!

Now your catapult placement is very important too. Don't completely overfill your fort. It will just make it harder to rebuild walls, and when there are so many at once, it'll make the game start lagging like crazy later on. Limit your use! I tried to keep them in between my snowmen and not extend any further than that, so I know that my walls will be easy to rebuild even if I have to do it from the inside. You can also damage your own walls with your catapults, so be careful. You can use it to your advantage if you see a small hole you're worried you won't be able to fill, though.

The Enemy

Those Snow Beasts and Lupes sure are jerks. I'm not sure which one I dislike more. But, target the Snow Beasts first. They have catapults of their own and are bent on trying to destroy your walls. The less damage you let them do, the better. So your first few clicks each round should go straight to them. The first round, there will be three of them. Then four, and then five. It caps out there though, so don't worry.

The Lupes, well, they move around a lot. I'm not very good at hitting them always. Generally I would just spam click in each Lupe's general area and hope one hit. Perhaps not the best method, but hey! Who cares as long as it works. You don't have to get all of them, but you should try to get as many as you possibly can because they move up against your walls and invade your fort to hurt your precious snowmen. Or even if they don't make it in, you can't place blocks where they are so it makes it harder to rebuild. Also when you try to hit them if they're that close, you'll hit your own walls. Regardless, you should target the closest Lupes first after the Snow Beasts. The game starts out with three Lupes, and increases up to 6, adding one each round until then.

This may not happen to you, but I've heard it from most people: The game will start to lag as you get into later rounds. Don't worry about it too much, you can still get all the Snow Beasts. You just might have a harder time getting all of the Lupes. Just try to click everything as quickly as you can, the shots will still go through, it just might be a bit delayed. The rebuilding part shouldn't lag, so you won't waste time there.

My two main tips are to click as quickly as you can, and pay super close attention to your walls. Any time save you can manage while doing things you NEED to get done will improve your game immensely because you'll be able to improve your defenses with extra walls. Keep in mind this game takes a while to play, so make sure you have plenty of time to finish. Just keep trying, even if only once a week. Improving slowly is better than completely throwing the game out the window thinking you can't do it. Good luck! :)
