Neopians for Darkness

by pdonkeh

--------

So, hi there. My name is Elysia. And I'm a Faerie. I live in Faerieland. I like reading and writing, and, uh, that is... aw, heck. I'll just spit it out now.

I'm a Dark Faerie.

Let me guess. You're squirming in your seat now, right? Gotta be wondering what a Dark Faerie could want to say that would interest you. After all, we're a bunch of scheming, nasty, manipulating baddies. Malicious, cruel, yadda yadda yadda. Is that what you're thinking? If it is, I'd kind of like to tell you to go away, but if you did, I wouldn't get a chance to clear things up. So I'm asking, pretty please, will you keep reading? You will? Thanks! Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah – Dark Faeries are bad, right?

Well, I'm here to tell you that it's a really unfair stereotype. Like, really unfair. We're like, practically angels. We cook, and clean, and we even help Neopets cross the street and all that... All right, so maybe I'm exaggerating. Just a little bit, though! Nobody's that nice. Not even that fancy-pants Illusen (even though she totally thinks she's the nicest Faerie around). Psh! What does she know, anyway? I heard that last week, some Air Faerie saw her take some bread from Merifoods without paying! I would never do something like that. It could just be a rumor. Maybe some Faerie made it up because she was sick of Illusen always prancing around like she's so cool and stuff. That's probably not the case. I'm just saying, it could be true. But I digress.

The way I figure, we have a couple things going against us that put this bad picture into people's heads. Like, the way we all look? All, you know... dark. I guess that scares some people a little It makes us look nasty and mean. But you know, that's totally not cool. I mean, what about that old saying? Don't judge a book without a cover, right? Or something like that. Anyway, the point is, you can't assume we're mean just because we look mean.

And of course, let's not forget Illusen the Bread Thief. Seriously, she's always going on and on about “bad Dark Faerie this” and “bad Dark Faerie that”. And since she's Neopia's little princess, of course everyone believes her. But seriously! Why does she hate us so much? It's like I was saying before, we're not all bad, so she's being unfair. I mean, even if someone did dye her hair pink and yellow, or fill her shoes with tacks, or put a bunch of salt in her cookies (just guessing), that's no reason to hate us all, right? But hey. As long as she keeps at it, I don't expect a lot of love from the rest of Neopia.

And the last big problem? Well, okay, this one's a little more fair. I'll admit that best known Dark Faeries aren't exactly shining examples of anything. Like the Darkest Faerie, or Jhudora. Or those mean little Faeries who threw rocks at Balthazar (which, by the way, I think was a really dumb thing to do - I mean, now it's all their fault that he goes around catching Faeries in those little bottles). But, just for the record? I'm not like that. I didn't try to take over Altador, or throw rocks at little Lupes, or anything nasty like that. I'm a good Faerie. I eat all my vegetables and everything (even the really yucky ones). Okay, I'll be honest. I did cheat on a test in Neoschool once. But it was really hard, and I'm terrible at maths. And it was only once, you know? I'll bet you've cheated before, too. Haven't you? YOU HAVE, I KNOW IT! Erm, that is to say... well, never mind. My point is, I'm not evil, and I'm not the only one.

The real question is, how can we fix our reputation? Well, that's where you come in! You see, I've started this little organization. It's called, “Neopians For Darkness”, or NFD for short. It's a group dedicated to spreading the word about Dark Faeries – the truth, that is. Letting everyone know that we can be just as good as other Faeries. It's really catching on quick, too. We have lots of members – there's me (of course), and a friend of mine (she told me not to say her name 'cause she's scared people will find out she's friends with a Dark Faerie) and some other Faeries told me that if I left them alone and stopped putting dung in their mailboxes, they might think about joining. I'm pretty optimistic. Jhudora wanted to join too, but I had to tell her no, because really, how is she supposed to help Dark Faeries get a good reputation? Honestly! She said I'd be sorry, but what's she gonna do? Start her own group? I'm pretty sure no one would want to join it. I also mailed Queen Fyora about joining or endorsing NFD a couple times. She hasn't replied to me yet, but I'll bet that's because she's really busy or something. I bet she gets a lot of mail, and when she has time, she'll answer me and say she'd love to join. I'm sure she will.

Anyway, I'm hoping that you'd consider joining NFD, too! We could really use all the support we can get. You'd be supporting a great and really important cause, and joining is super easy. Really, it is! If you want to join the crusade for fairness to Dark Faeries, all you have to do is stop by our Headquarters (it's a little shack in the shadows behind the Cloud Racers track) and sign a little agreement form for us. Don't worry, it's nothing important – just something to file away for tax purposes or something. You agree to support our cause, defend our rights, pledge unwavering loyalty in the event that I attempt to conquer Neopia... really basic stuff. It's standard fare. No need to think much about it.

Please, consider joining our group. It's important that we get the message out to all the misguided Neopians out there. Remember, knowledge is power, apple a day, etcetera etcetera. Just join up and help spread the word! I promise you won't regret it.
