Picking a Battledome Guild

by mysticdarkangel

--------

These days finding a Battledome guild well suited to your needs is a rather difficult process. If you’ve ever taken a step into the Battledome board you will know exactly what I mean. Imagine, you are just one user surrounded by thousands of topics stating “Join, ‘insert guild name here’ or DIE!” With all this chaos it often creates too much confusion to actually pick a guild, so I will walk you through the basics of choosing a Battledome guild and also show you some stereotypes of the guilds.

As tradition goes, most Battledome guilds are private; this means that it is not open to the public and you must be sent an invitation from someone within the guild in order to join. So you are now probably asking, how on earth do I receive an invitation to a guild if it is private and I have never heard of it? Simple, you look on the Battledome boards. You will most likely find a topic that for example says, “Warriors of the BD req. hp+str+def=100+ ” If you are new to the board this will probably make absolutely no sense, so I will explain. A Battledome guild often has requirements, meaning you need a certain number of stats in order to join. Here are a few Battledome abbreviations translated:

HP = Hit Points

STR = Strength

DEF = Defense

So in order to join a guild that has a requirement of 100+ stats you’ll have to train your pet (if it is not already trained) so that its hitpoints, strength, and defense when added together are equal to or greater than the requirement of that specific guild. Some guilds however do not care for stats and will let you join based upon the value of your Battledome set, aka the weapons you use to battle with, though in these cases the guild prefers someone with an expensive set, usually worth 5 million or more. When you have all the requirements that are needed just post "invite" on the topic that is recruiting new members.

Battledome guilds often go to war with one another or they have tournaments that go on within their own guild. When a Battledome guild goes to war with another guild this means that the two guild leaders agree to hold a tournament with one another and everyone who wishes to participate can join, as long as they are in the guild. There are many rules to a “tourney”; however, the basic concept is that you battle members from the opposing guild and try to gain as many wins as possible. When the tournament is held for only guild members it usually is an elimination process so that there is one winner in the end. There are many different ways to hold a tourney, so the ones I have stated are not the only ones that occur; they are just the most common. Now that you have these basic concepts in mind, let's take a look through the types of guilds that are floating around these days.

1) Famous Person Guild – These guilds are created by people who are “famous” and other users join because they respect or idolize this “famous” person. There are two categories when it comes to being famous in my opinion, Person A: Someone who has become well known on the Battledome boards by making ridiculous topics and through other attention seeking methods. Person B: Someone who has incredibly strong pets or is extremely wealthy. Either way, these guilds are often very popular.

2) Power House Guild – This type of guild is usually led by a rather strong user and has requirements that are very high so that the members within this type of guild are also very strong and usually have expensive Battledome sets. These guilds often go to war against other guilds and the members have various homemade trophies upon their lookups.

3) Species Guild – These guilds are dedicated to a certain species of Neopia and you usually have to own that type of pet in order to join. This type of guild takes much pride in their pet’s species; the most popular species in the Battledome is often a Lupe. There is usually much controversy with Lupe guilds; they often go to war with other Lupe guilds to prove that… who knows?

4) Normy Guild - This is the most common of all Battledome guilds. They often have stat requirements starting from 75+ up to 300+ and usually have about 100 members or more. They have a wide variety of themes, and these types of guilds also go to war with one another. The members are usually friendly and there is much posting going on within the guild.

5) Everybody Guild – This is a type of guild that is public and open to everyone. They often have many activities going on within the guild. They are friendly and are always on the lookout to get others to join. They concentrate on having a large amount of members.

6) Newbie Guild – These guilds are specifically made for people who are new to the Battledome. They have experienced members who are there in order to help the newcomers. They teach their members how to train and show them what type of Battledome set would go nicely with a newbie’s budget. These guilds, however, are getting quite rare.

7) Close Knit Guild – This kind of guild is very selective with its members; they interview people who want to join their guild and rarely do they let anyone in. They look for quality not quantity. They choose to be private and are usually extremely friendly towards one another.

Well that’s about it for stereotypical guilds. There are of course, more types of guilds than the ones I listed; however, those are just the most popular. When it comes to choosing the right Battledome guild you often have to experiment and just see what you like. So hopefully by reading this you gained a little more knowledge. I encourage you to go out there and find the perfect Battledome guild for you!
