Asr-ticles - Behind the Pteri

Asr-Ticles will be the beginning of a great new reference material in the Neopian Times (ASR stands for my initials). As this being the first article of the series, I figured I’d write it about something popular – and, sure enough, the “popular” of “today” was the origin of the NeoPets that starred in some of Neopia’s best games, especially the ones including “trapped” pets – namely, the Meerca of Meerca Chase and the Chomby of Chomby and the Fungus Balls. But I decided to take a…different…pet into this Asr-ticle…the Pteri.

How It Got There

We got the following interview from the one and only Pteri starring in Pterattack during its “Beta Break”, or its days off during the Beta Testing of the game with a pre-released Robotic Pteri Plushie, kind of like a Remote Control Airplane.

ASR-Ticles: So, how exactly did you get the role of this number-one game?

Pteri: Oh, this is an easy one! As you may know, one member of the NeoPets Staff always adopts the very first of every single pet when they are discovered and keeps them all fed and loved despite the large number. TheNeoPetsteam is allowed to own unlimited pets, you know, despite the law. Anyway, most of the pets star in games. Like Colin the Tuskaninny – he stars in Cliffhanger. And there’s Joey the Meerca, of Meerca Chase. And also there is Geoffrey the Chia, in Chia Bombers. And let’s not forget Benny the Chomby, who stars in, yes, Chomby and the Fungus Balls!

ASR: Uh, I’m not trying to be rude, but can you get to the point? I’m recording this article for the Neopian Times on a tape, and I don’t have too much tape to last too long and I also don’t know how to record over-

Pteri: All right, all right! As I was saying, I volunteered for a type of shooting game like Centipede and unlike Centipede at the same time. Every pet without a game was allowed to try out. By that I mean species, not just single pets. Like two Tuskaninnys are in two games – as you know, Colin the Tuskaninny of Cliffhanger and Brucey B of Cheat!. So, they had to agree that I was the pet for the job. Unlike those lies about Joey and Benny that have been distributed, they, too, volunteered for their games and if their bodies are in any way modified during the game, are always restored to normal. So, basically, I volunteered.

Tips from the Pro

ASR: Okay, before we go onto the next question, what is your name?

Pteri: Who? Me?

ASR: Yes, you!

Pteri: Oh, sorry! I’m Teri the Pteri!

ASR: So you’re the same name as your species?

Teri: Who said that? I’m Teri!

ASR: I don’t see the difference…

Teri: What’s wrong with you! There’s a giant difference: my name is missing one letter when compared to my species’ name!

ASR: Huh? O! Okay, I understand! Now for the next question: do you have any tips that you’re willing to reveal to our viewers? About your great game?

Teri: Not that I want to tell.

ASR: …!

Teri: Anything else?

ASR: Uh, I…think…Let me just find the paper…I had most of the questions memorized…

* Rustle, rustle *

Teri: I wonder what that button does?

ASR: Huh? WHAT BUTTON?!

Teri: Oh, the one on the tape that I just pushed with the square.

ASR: You couldn’t of. That means stop, and it’s still recording!

Teri: So, I lied.

ASR: Then which one did you push?

Teri: I don’t know. What’s the next question?

ASR: Where is it?

Teri: Is that it? Cause I don’t know the answer to that question. Actually, I do. It’s in your brain. I think.

ASR: Augh! Where’s Puntuli?

Teri: No! The staff’s Shoyru is called Flit!

ASR: No! Puntuli is my pet!

Teri: Then why are you asking me?

ASR: …You know what?

Teri: No, what? To get to the other side?

ASR: *Sigh* No…I wish that Giant Grarrl in your game would eat you up.

Teri: What Giant Grarrl?

ASR: The one they put in your game.

Teri: Oh. Because there are lots of Grarrls and they’re all giant.

ASR: Y’know what?

Teri: No. To get to the other-

ASR: Forget we even had this discussion. That little timer that says 00:10 means there are ten seconds until this tape stops recor-
