Arts and Crafts with Lupe

by radiopup

No, this article isn't about the book "Arts and Crafts with Lupe" or about making paper chia chains, and come to think of it, it doesn't have much to do with lupes either. But it does have something to do with arts and crafts. This article is mostly about making art things in real life about NeoPets. A nice way to enjoy your NeoPets outside the computer.

3-D type picture of you and your NeoPet(s)

What you need (materials):

- scissors
- glue (the stick glues are the best because the runny kind doesn't work very well)
- paint and paint brush
- a photo of yourself (or your cat/dog whatever you want your NeoPets to be with)
- a picture of your NeoPet
- thick cardboard (like the ones from cardboard boxes which are around 0.5cm thick) thin ones won't work I'm afraid
- plastic wrap/microwabe wraps (those thin, clear transparent plastic type stuff you put over food, not sure what they're called. They're used to cover food and make it fresh)

Steps: Before you start, it's a good idea to put newspaper on the table so it does get too messy.

1: Cut three pieces of cardboard just a little bigger than the picture of youself (say your photo was 15cm x 10cm you would cut the cardboard probably 18cm x 13cm)

2: On the first piece of cardboard paste the photo of yourself in the middle.

3: With the two other pieces of cardboard cut out the middle. Leave each side being 2cm or 3cm depending on how big your photo is. So now the two piece look like frames.

4: Place one piece of the cut out cardboard on top of the one with the photo of you stuck to it. So now it looks like a frame with your photo in the middle.

5: Now get a large piece of the plastic wrap (a lot bigger than your cardboard piece) You have to paint the pictures of your pet (s) on it. To make it easier to paint, place the plastic wrap over a bowl or something so it is smoother. It will be easier if you draw the outline of your pets first with a black permanent marker pen (or any pen as long as it shows on the plastic wrap). (and if your finding it hard to paint or draw your pet, try printing out a picture and then tracing it) Also the paint might be watery and not stay on the wrap. Try putting some washing detergent in the paint and mixing it in, just a little and it should be ok.

6: While you wait for the paint to dry, get the last cardboard with the rectangular hole in the middle (not the one you just pasted on) and do some decorations on it. For example, write your name, your pets name, draw some pictures, stick on stickers, whatever. Or you can just leave it plain.

7: When the paint has dried, you have to be careful that the wrap doesn't scrunch up or it'll ruin the painting of your pet. On your second cardboard(the one that's likea a frame over the photo) put glue on all the sides of the borders, so you can later stick the wrap with the picture of your pet onto it.

8: Now, stretch the wrap with the picture of your pets over the second cardboard, be careful to get the position right before the wrap stick to the glue. Don't stretch too tightly or you might rip the plastic wrap! When you get the position right (so your pet's picture should be next to you, or leaning on you whoever you want it to look) press it down on the sides of the frame border so it stick to the glue. You can now still pull the ends a bit so it looks smoother and tighter. It should now look 3-D-ish and like your pets are standing in front of you (or next to you).

9: Now on the last cardboard you decorated, put glue all over the borders of the un-decorated side. you should put quite a lot of glue on it(but not too much...) now paste it on top of the plastic wrap (which is covering the sides of the second cardboard). The third frame's borders are now covering the second frame's borders.

10: So now, you should have a 3-D like picture of yourself with your pet. If you have any trouble understanding this (because I did myself when I read over it, hehe) you can Neomail me and ask me.

A Fuzzle/Jubjub Toy

- scissors
- thin cardboard
- quite a lot of coloured wool (it turns out better if you use baby wool because baby wool is much softer and fuzzier)

Steps:

1: First you get a hard piece of cardboard and cut it about 10cm by 6 - 10cm depending on how big you want the Fuzzle/Jubjub. And also cut out a long piece of wool about 30cm long for later use.

2: Keep wrapping it around, remember to overlap the wool, sort of in layers. Don't wrap the wool all over the carboard just keep it all overlapping. When you wrap it don't wrap it too tightly and don't wrap it too loosely.

3: The __ and |'s are the sides of the cardboard and the \\\'s is the wool wrapped around the carboard. It doesn't cover the whole cardboard, just about 2/3 of it. Make sure when you wrap it, it isn't spread out. It should be overlapping layers.

4: When you think there are enough layers of wool, there should be quite a lot, making it look big, carefully slide all the wool off the side of the cardboard. Don't let it fall apart or you'll have to do it all over again! Try not to let go of it, keep holding it or the whole bundle of wool could unwind.

5: While holding it, tie the piece of wool you cut out earlier and tie it AROUND the sides of the bundle. It's a good idea to get a friend or your mum or dad to help you here because it can get a bit hard.

The stars in the middle represent the long piece of string tied around it. Tie it very tightly. Tie it around 2 times. Just make sure it's very tight because if this piece of wool comes off, the whole Fuzzle/Jubjub will fall apart.

6: When it's tied tightly, at the end of the bundle, there the arrow is pointing:

\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\
\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\
\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\ <----- this end and the opposite end
\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\
\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\

Where it's pointing the wool should still be in a kind of loop. In the middle of all the loops put your scissors through there and cut it (at the top of the loops). If you cut it right, it should turn out to look all fluffy and like a pompom.

7: Now all you have to do is cut out some feet from the cardboard and some eyes and stick it onto the pompom. You can try making rainbow Fuzzles, using all different colors when wrapping it, pink, blue, yellow, green, orange etc etc. Again, if you didn't understand (it would have been easier with better diagrams) just Neomail me and I'll help.

Simpler things:

1: If it's winter and it snows where you live, go outside.
2: Get some snow.
3: Roll it.
4: Magical snowball is formed!

Or if you are like me and live somewhere where it doesn't snow:
1: Go to freezer
2: Scrape the frost off the sides of the freezer.
3: Roll it.
4: You've got a magical snowball :)

Pet Rock:
1: Go outside to Garden
2: Find a rock.
3: Draw eyes on it.
4: You have a new pet rock.

Thanks for reading! Hope you have fun!
