Strife's head was reeling, was his friend playing a joke
on him? He had to remember what happened, how could anyone forget something
that big?
"What happened Strife, please tell me!" his friend whined.
So he was serious.
"All right, if you must know, it was after me and you
were trying to catch up with the others," he started, "we were kind of
behind and everyone was headed towards this trench. We were planning to
hide there, ambush some of the enemy, and move on towards the next ditch.
You and I didn't make it. The enemy surprised us with a secret weapon,
the others were safe in the trench but you and me were raw targets, right
in the open. They fired some shots but luckily we dodged them. We had
to run to the enemy tank, so as not to endanger our fellow comrades. We
were doing fine, when you turned to look at me. Glee was in your eye,
and you laughed happily because you were sure we would make it. But when
you turned again, their cannon hit you head on. The blow conked you out
and I was certain they were gonna run you over but they didn't. I dragged
you back to the base, and you slept for six days. Six long days."
A tear formed in Dolphin's eye. "What happened to Carmen?"
"She stopped at the gate, too afraid to go back
inside. She had been here before, helping the wounded."
"Would he be awake by now?" she thought. She decided
she would come back later, tonight, when it wasn't so busy. She dashed
off towards the springs and the forest.
"Who's Carmen?" Strife asked.
"She helped me, a lot. She met you too," Dolphin talked
on. "She's a white Wocky, with the most beautiful voice you've ever heard
and, and she's kind and-"
"She doesn't exist!" Strife cut him off."You're delusional!"
And with that final word Strife left the tent for Dolphin
to sleep.
***
On the stroke of midnight, the moon was gleaming at the
sky's zenith, shining down on the army base. The white Wocky sat upon
the rock that watched over the site, singing her harmonious tune. A blue
Wocky creeped out of his shelter towards the lulling voice. It was her,
it was really her! He galloped to the rock with the beauty upon it, and
her peaceful song. He stopped some feet before the rock to admire her.
She continued to sing and looked down on the Wocky below. Her voice halted
and climbed from her pewter throne. They faced each other for quite some
while before one said something.
"What is your name?" Dolphin managed to say.
"Carmen," she said softly.
"I knew it… Oh! I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself.
I'm Dolphin10, but everyone just calls me Dolphin," he exclaimed excitedly.
"I know. We've met before, don't you remember?" she asked
confused. Before he had time to answer, she took off towards the springs.
"When will I see you again?" he cried.
"Soon!" Was all she said before she disappeared into
the darkness.
