A True Beauty

I suppose you're wondering what I mean. As you probably can already tell, this is about Dreamleeper, my favorite Lupe. She was enchanting, beautiful, and intelligent. Most of all she was the nicest Lupe you could probably ever meet. Unlike her brother, SilverBolte, who adores fighting in many ways and can be aggressive if you get on his bad side, Dream was different. Although Dream loved fighting in the Battledome, she did not like to see other pets in pain. Instead, she used her time playing with her sister, Thei, and her Gulper, Zako.

*Ahem* Well, I suppose you are getting bored now, so I will tell you my, I mean HER story.

"Whaddaya MEAN, she can't be in the Beauty Contest?!?" Thei shouted at the Uni at the front booth. "All the spots are filled up, ma'am. She'll just have to wait for the next one." The Uni said politely.

Thei muttered a few words, but the Uni interrupted. "Oh wait!" She said, a smile finally spreading across her face. "We have ONE spot left! Better hurry and take it, miss."

"OK, we'll take it."

"Alrighty then, I'll need your name," the Uni said as she turned toward Dream.

"Dreamleeper."

"The contest starts tomorrow, so don't be late!"

Dreamleeper and Thei left to get Dream a designer gown. As soon as they got to the clothes department, The Uni at the counter smiled at them.

"Can I help you?"

"We're looking for a designer gown," Thei said, eagerly, as if the dress was for her.

The Uni smiled at us again. "The Designer Gowns are over there." The Uni said, pointing to a whole shelf full of dresses. " Going to the beauty contest, eh?"

"Yeah." Dream said, walking over to look at the gowns with awe. Soon, she passed a gorgeous strapless gown that had a dark navy blue with pearls, diamonds, and glitter stars over it, and it would go down to her feet. It also had beautiful lacey ruffles at the bottom.

Dream grabbed it off the shelf and brought it up to the Uni. "I'd like this dress please," Dream said as the Uni took it and gave Dream her bill.

It costed 3000 NPs. Luckily, Dream had brought just enough. "Here y'go," she said, smiling and taking the gown.

"Have a nice day!" the Uni said as they left.

As Dream and Thei walked back to their owner's house, Dream piped up, "I can't wait to try it on! It'll look so pretty with my white fur." She smiled. Thei said nothing, but kept walking.

When they got home, Dream rushed up to her room, put the dress on, and looked into her 'lupe-height' mirror. She looked FABULOUS.

That Night. . .

Dream couldn't get an ounce of sleep. She was close to sleep at one point... but when the thought of the beauty contest entered her head, she was wide awake. She tossed and turned, but still no luck. The next morning, Dream woke up to Thei's red eyes staring at her.

"C'mon! Have you forgotten the beauty contest??" she asked, looking at her, puzzled.

"What??" Dream sat up and looked at the clock.

"7 in the morning??!" she said in shock.

"Yeah, what did ya think??" Thei said, hopping off her bed.

Dream jumped out of bed and quickly put on her gown and make-up. She rushed out the door, pulling Thei behind her.

When they got to the beauty contest's main office, Dream signed in and hurried out to the dressing room to make sure she still looked good.

Soon, the beauty contest started and Dream was in front. The crowd oohed and awed at her and another gorgeous fire lupe that was a friend of hers, Kaileina288.

Dream noticed that Kai was wearing a spaghetti strap dress, that was a short one. It had a sunset on it, and it looked beautiful.

It soon came to the end, and as the judges were discussing their final descision, a Kyrii announcer came out and said into the microphone, "And our winner IS...." The judges handed the Kyrii a piece of paper with the winner.

"....Kaileina288!!"

Kai stepped up on the stage and was handed her trophy that said, 'Best Dressed', on it. I was so disappointed. As I was getting up to go back to my dressing room, what Kai said next shocked me.

"Thank you, but I cannot accept this award." The crowd gasped. Kai's owner fainted.

She continued, "My friend is much more beautiful than I am, and much more intelligent than I. My friend has been a great help to me, so that is why I give this award to Dreamleeper," Kai said as she handed Dream the trophy.

"...Now, didn't you have a speech to make Dream? "

"Yes, I do. Thanks Kai. "

Dream cleared her throat. "Well, I guess I entered this beauty contest because I thought I was beautiful. That may be true, only it never occured to me that EVERY pet is beautiful, whether it is red, blue, yellow, or any other color! I thought I could win this, piece of cake, no problem....But, no, I was wrong. After all, I may be painted a rare white colour, and my owner may have a lot of NPs, I may have a cute PetPet, I may have 2 nice brothers and a cool sister, but aren't we ALL special? Don't we all mean a lot to our owners and friends? If Neopia is going to have a beauty contest and having only a couple win, it's just like trying to put others down, trying to make them feel bad, and think they're ugly."

"But why have only ONE win? I say, let every pet feel good about themselves and let them all win!"

The crowd roared with applause as she climbed off the stage with Kai. She had come in the beauty contest a regular pet, and had come out a hero.
