Are your Neopoints going to waste? Are you spending them in the wrong places?
Find out with this simple step guide to creating a Neopian budget! When
you read the Neopian Times, you see a lot of articles about how to spend
your Neopoints I have been reading them, but I don't agree with a lot of them.
So, I wanted to show Neopia the best (in my opinion) way to gain and
spend your money.
1) Before you can spend your Neopoints you have to gain them. First of
all, in the very beginning you can get a newbie pack. In the newbie pack
you get three food items, and a toy. With those items, you don't have
to worry about buying anything until you have enough Neopoints stored
away. My suggestion is to create a bank account. You gain Neopoints, and
it gives you a place to store your NPs. By playing games and signing up
with sponsors you should put one thousand NPs away before you start spending.
2) Now you have Neopoints. Continue to play games and sign up with sponsors,
keep the money flowing in! Before you buy anything, remember, you can
only spend as much as you have. You always want to have SOME Neopoints
in the bank. Think of your first thousand as your "back up money." Don't
spend unless you have to. What I do is every time I get a hundred NPs
I put them in the bank. Only the hundred. I keep the, for instance, 56
NPs to spend. You also never want to have NONE out of the bank. That is
my method of keeping NPs going into the bank. Once you have your method,
you should start buying.
3) The first most important thing you should be looking for is food.
I like to have some in "My Items" but I don't always. Anyway, when your
pet is hungry FEED IT! Making Neopoints is no excuse for letting a pet
go hungry. Remember the site is 'NeoPets' not Neopoints your pets come
first. The best deals for food are in the food shop, but they are not
always stocked. The burger shop does stock about every 5 minutes though,
so be on a look out for that. When you can't get food from the food shop
look under the Wizard for the cheapest prices. Some shops really rip you
off on food. Don't spend 30 NPs on an apple when if you wait you can get
it for 5 at at the food shop! You should be spending no more than 200
NPs a week on food. Make sure you have this money "set aside" in your
bank account.
4) Once your pets are fed, you will want to play with them, and read
to them. These are not "needed" but remember, the game is about your pets
not being greedy. I usually get two books a week, and get some new toys
every two weeks. When you read to them, play with them too so they are
"well balanced." Weekly you should be spending about 100 NPs at the most
on toys and books. Set this aside too. ( At the moment you should have
1000 NPs back-up, 200 a week for food, and 100 for books and toys.)
5) Now you have your basic needs and a constant Neopoints flow. SO you
have everything you need, but so what? You want some rare items, and to
spend some Neopoints on games, and other cool stuff. And that is perfectly
OK. That is part of NeoPets too. You just have to remember not to go overboard.
Spending 10,000 NPs a day is probably not the smartest move. You should
set aside 1000 NPs every week or every other week for special stuff. You
can save it up and spend it all at once, spend it in increments, or not
spend it at all. Just remember, nothing makes a pet's day like a PetPet
or a new color. Don't deprive them of that because you don't want to use
your NPs. If you have enough for a special item and everything else, go
for it.
Once you set aside this money keep a solid bank account. That way you
can indulge one way or another once in a while. *I wouldn't suggest buying
products you can't do anything with, like clothes.
