Heavenly Argument
The Faeries peered down from their heavenly home at the many Neopians
below. They were so small from the clouds! "I still can't believe they
don't destroy each other. Look at how much difference there is between
them!" the Dark Faerie shouted in frustration.
"It just goes to show different people can live together in harmony,"
the Light Faerie said, dipping her feet into the spring calmly.
Around them were the others of their kind-- the Earth Faerie, the Air
Faerie, the Fire Faerie and the Water Faerie, and also the Soup Faerie,
the Space Faerie, the Snow Faerie, the Warrior Faerie and the Negg Faerie.
The Faerie Queen was sleeping a short distance away.
"Light's right," the Water Faerie said in her usual, soft, flowing voice.
"People don't have to look the same to feel the same."
"Yeah, stop being so, so dark!" Fire Faerie said.
"Oh, I'll shut up," the Light Faerie added, looking embarrassed.
"Yeah, you do that! That's my job," Dark said.
"Don't start snapping, would you?" the Soup Faerie said.
"Yeah, it always ends up as some crazy Neopian quest you two pull off.
It's-" the Negg Faerie clasp her hands on her mouth, but it was too late.
"Hey yeah! Let's settle this! We'll take four different Neopians and
send them on a quest!" Dark shouted.
"No! That always ends up getting the poor dears in trouble!" Earth shouted,
almost pleading.
"Earth's right! We can't do this again, they'll all wind up getting in
sticky situations!"
"So what?" Dark snorted in an insulting manner.
"Listen you, you!" Air started to shout, poking a finger at Dark, but
she was cut off.
"Stop it! All of you!" a commanding voice came from behind them.
They whirled and saw the Faerie queen, quite awake and furious looking.
"If there's no other way you can think of, besides a quest, then go ahead!"
Dark looked quite pleased at this. "But let's let Water choose the four
pets."
This wiped the smirk off Dark's face. She whirled and stared at the Water
Faerie Poor Water looked traumatized.
"But! I can't choose the - If I choose wrong-!" but she didn't get to
finish.
"Yes, you're the one to choose!" Negg said.
"You're the one!" Snow affirmed.
"You'll choose right," Space encouraged.
"Don't worry about a thing," Fire reassured.
They all knew what their queen had in mind. Water was the sweetest, gentlest
Faerie of them all. She also had a gift for seeing inside people's hearts,
for spotting how much they did or didn't like each other. She could choose
the right pets, pets she knew would get along. And they all knew that
if these pets had the slightest chance of living, it was from working
together and getting along.
Water took a deep breath, then turned away from all the faeries and looked
down at Neopia. She took another deep breath, then lifted her tail out
of the water. "All right. I've chosen." She looked at the Dark and Light
Faeries, then disappeared. She was going to go and meet the unlucky pets.
