Peinguane was a zippy, energetic little Bruce ever since he was born.
Also, he was very persistent. If he wanted something, he would tug on
his owner's arm and say, "Litesaber, I'm hungry! Can we eat out?" or,
"Litesaber, I'm boooooooooored! Can I get a brand new Super Duper Scooter?"
Many times, Litesaber would say no, but eventually, he would have to
give in. But he was not a mean Bruce. He would help Litesaber in the garden,
or take over duty in the store. He was very helpful in a way, too. The
Faeries also saw the good in him and what sorts of powers he could get
if he tried. This, too, was also speculated by the Dark Faerie. "If I
could get him as a minion, I would be all powerful and take over the WHOLE
of Neopia!"
Most of all, to the Dark Faerie's delight, Bruces were not known to be
at all that strong in battle. As he grew older, the Light Faerie presented
him with a Quest. "I must have this card," she said as she showed him
a picture of it, "Without you searching through shops to buy it. I left
it somewhere, but where? I can't remember."
With that, she returned to the Tower of Light. Indeed, she and her sisters
would only present quests to those they knew could handle them. As Peinguane
was persistent, he didn't give up. Search he did. Finally, after much
searching, he returned home. After a meal of ErgyBrocolli and a delicious
Space Slush, he went back to his room to read a book. But with the quest
on his mind, he just couldn't concentrate.
"I don't want the Light Faerie to think that I cannot handle a quest!
Finish it I must!" He dropped the book on his bed and put a note on the
refrigerator:
Dear Litesaber,
I am going to be out searching for a card that the Light Faerie lost.
I don't know when I will be back, but when I do come back, I will
have the card. Have faith in me.
Signed,
Peinguane
When Litesaber got home from a day of great selling at his shop, he gasped
at the note. Why would Peinguane do this? "He is a persistent Bruce, and
I should have known it." Sadly, because he hated to be lonely, Litesaber
went to the hatchery to get a less determined breed.
The Dark Faerie was waiting for him when Peinguane had reached the Haunted
Woods. "Oh, Peinguane! Do you need this?" She waved a card at him. The
one the faerie had lost! He was about to take it, when his sense of logic
kicked in.
"Wait a sec," Peinguane said slowly, "I can't take the card. I have to
find it." Remembering her looks from the cover of one of books, he lowered
his eyes, "And you are the Dark Faerie. If you think I'd take an offer
from you, it would have to be NEVER!!!"
In a haste he ran off to warn the citizens of the woods about this threat.
Hopelessly, the Dark Faerie gave up on trying to get him and vanished
in a cloud of smoke. As he ran, Peinguane saw a gold object lying by a
tree. The card!!!! as soon as Peinguane picked it up, in a flash of light,
he was in front of the Light Faerie's tower, card in hand. Nervously,
he knocked. The door opened. It was the Light Faerie answering the door
herself!
"You found my card! I knew you could do it!" she invited him inside.
"Peinguane, we faeries realized that, with the right training, you could
become the champion of the Battledome."
The faeries decided to begin by giving him a noble name. They thought
and thought, until the Water Faerie said quietly, "how about Peinguane
the Persistent?" It was agreed, and so, the five Faeries of good began
to train him, and, as some stories go, this is one that may never end,
for what has been read is only a few pages in the story of this persistent
Neopian.
