The Elephantes Wings

Ever notice the Elephante has wings? Of course you didn't! You can barely see them! But how did one of Neopia's heaviest get wings? Way up high in the clouds lives a NeoGod. His Name is Ice and he is a Lupe. In a volcano, there is another NeoGod. Her name is Vira. She is a Uni. The third is Blue, a Peophin who lives in the oceans. But there is one more. One said to be made of Lighting. His name? Thunder, a Shoyru. Each protects the bad NeoPets from doing things that shouldn't be done. But sometimes they fail. That's how pets morph into other pets.

A long long time back, before Buzzes, even before Fleyes (what Buzzes evolved from) the only flying pets were the Unis. Elephantes, wingless at the time, admired the Unis. The way the Unis flew in and out of the clouds was amazing! Surely they must get close to Ice! The Elephantes were extremely jealous. One selfish Elephante was ashamed of her appearance. She looked just like every Elephante except for a large scar on her hoof. Those who saw it made fun of her. At that time NeoPets were expected to be just like everybody else of their kind, since there were no paintbrushes.

The Elephante swore she would make them pay. She would do something to make them jealous. But what? She glanced up at the clouds. Ice... Ice! She would marry Ice! But how would she get in the clouds? Surely the Unis would know! They must visit Ice all the time! So she went into Uni territory. She saw young males poking each other with horns, and six Unis swimming.

She decided to approach the elder. He asked her what she was doing in Uni territory. She asked him if they ever saw Ice the NeoGod. He laughed in her face. He told her only bad pets could see him. And he told her to get out. The Elephante didn't believe him though. They just didn't want her to know the truth. The Elephante realized she didn't want to only be Ice's wife. She wanted to be a Uni! The Elephante ran to the Haunted Woods and to the Witch's Tower. The old witch had read her mind as she walked through the door and already started mixing ingredients together.

When the Elephante entered the witch's room she explained what she wanted. The witch told her she could help under one condition. If she married Ice she must send their first born child to her. The Elephante agreed. The witch put the final ingredients in. There was a big poof of smoke and the witch was holding a bottle of a clear liquid. She asked what color the Elephante would wish to be. The Elephante responded "Blue!" So the witch tossed some blue Uni fur in the bottle and handed it to the Elephante. The Elephante grabbed it and ran back to her herd of Elephantes.

She gathered them around her and shouted, "Today, I will change into the one I should have been and enter the life I should have been born into." And with that she swallowed all of the potion. She felt a burning in her back and noticed two small wings sprouting up. The Elephantes gasped. This was it! She was turning into a Uni! The wings kept growing.

But before they got very large three pets appeared. One made of fire. One made of water. And one made of clouds. Blue shot out water and drenched the Elephante. She screamed and shouted at him as her wings grew and her red fur turned blue. Then Ice shot out cold air. The Elephante was drenched in frozen water. This made all of the changes that were happening in the Elephante stop. She turned blue and had small wings. But nothing more. Vira stepped up and shot fire all over the Elephante so the ice melted. The Elephante sobbed.

She would never marry Ice! She wasn't a Uni! Ice, Blue, and Vira returned to their homes. The Elephante was still upset. But wait! Didn't she have wings? She looked behind her. Yes! She did! She started to flap them and lifted off into the sky. She went higher and higher, until she was in the clouds. She could still hear the gasps of those below her. She stopped to rest on a cloud. Then the sky turned dark. A yellow streak flew across the sky. Then it stopped in front of the Elephante. THUNDER the Shoyru.

Maybe she could marry Thunder! The Elephante started to speak. Maybe if they married Thunder would let her be a NeoGod! "Your Majesty," The Elephante started. Thunder said nothing. He pulled out a bolt of lightning. Down below there was a huge crash of Thunder and it began to rain. As soon as the rain touched the Elephantes, they began to grow wings. The selfish Elephante was never seen again. And that's how the Elephantes got their wings.
