What's Up With Guilds? Responses to Shelleycat911's Article

by al_nino00 and _danielle_

This is al_nino00. There has been a lot off controversy over large guilds vs. the smaller ones. In my opinion any guild is great if it has a good atmosphere and the members actually care. I'm on guild council in the Battledome Guild. We are, of course, located in the Battledome neighbourhood. We have nearly 2,000 members and everybody's opinion is heard and NOBODY is ignored. Some members may get on our nerves by flooding on the boards and sending us five Neomails a day but they are never ignored. I'm not sure about the other larger guilds, but I'm pretty sure they feel this way too.

Right now we are taking suggestions on names for ranks and contests and other things. I'm not here to brag about the guild I'm in or anything like that I just thought larger guilds needed a little defense. Now I will point out some advantages and disadvantages to large and small guilds. My comparisons may not be very accurate because I haven't been in a small guild but I've read enough of these articles in other issues of the Neopian Times.

Large Guilds
Advantages
Many people to make friends with Other Neopians to give tips on a successful shop and a good income flow
Others to give you training tips Many contests to keep your creative juices flowing

Disadvantages
Lots of advertisers from other guilds filling up the boards with their unneeded nonsense
The boards fill up quickly

Smaller Guilds
Advantages
Pages on the Message boards don't fill up as quickly
You don't need to look through 20+ pages to find your name on the member list

Disadvantages
You may get kind of lonely on the message boards
Not as many people to get suggestions from to help you with your income

If this list seemed a little one-sided it wasn't meant to be and I greatly apologise I still think people should lay off big guilds just because they have more members. They still have all of the elements of a small guild and are basically the same as any other guild as long as they don't take advantage of their members.

This is _Danielle_ and I read ShellyCat911's article in the last issue about the advantages and disadvantages to large and small guilds. Some of her points were completely out to lunch. Here's why....

In bigger guild's there is more cash flow within the guild. People donate to the guild, and we have contests, which send the money back out. We have free contests as well, so that everyone can participate! Yes, we have Neocircles, and there's always lots of interesting people to talk to. Rich people, funny people, and people with huge and tough pets. Shellycat911 said that no one will notice you in a large guild. If you don't talk to anyone, of course they won't!

Get out, donate a couple NP, and talk to people. You'll find interesting ideas and stock tips that will make you NP! You have to be active in order to be noticed. As for the leader ignoring people, never! Well, people who beg for NP will be ignored, but the best ideas for my guild haven't come from me! They've come from some of the thousands of members in my guild.

This isn't just MY view on guilds, this is how almost all of them work. As you probably know, I'm the leader of the Thieves Guild in Neopia Central. Even though we have over 1 thousand members we still take time to donate and help each other. Look for our huge APPLE donation soon! I'd love to hear from anyone (as long as they don't beg! ^_^) Neomail me anytime, I never get off! ^_^ _Danielle_
