What Are the Bad Choices?

This is actually a continuation of the "What Are the Good Choices" article in Issue 34, but this article it will be about what you shouldn't do to make yourself poor.

Beginners

Okay, so you've just started out, right? And you might not have read my "What Are the Good Choices?" Actually, all you have to do is learn from your mistakes. Starters often begin with four pets. Why? Because they think it'll earn them more money, since each pet can earn up to 50np. But actually, you lose money! You've got to do a lot of things such as feeding it, curing it's sickness, etc. Having one to two pets is enough, and you'll probably start off with 600np.

Join sponsors, play games and explore the entire Neopia. Remember, you can go to the soup kitchen in the marketplace and feed your pets for free! Don't play the wrong games, as they can waste some of your precious time and earn not as much np. Kiko Match, Chiazilla vs. MechaChiazilla and Pokematch allow you to earn up to 2,000np a day! Go to the advent calendar and get free items and/or free np daily! Lastly, remember to open a shop and a bank account. You can sell extra items you might not need and earn np, while the bank account helps you not to waste as much. Deposit half as much money as you earn each day.

Intermediate

You've proceeded to Intermediate level. Good job! But can you face the challenges? If you start getting poorer, these might be the mistakes you're making. Are you doing Faerie quests and quests such as the Brain Tree, helping the chef in Maraqua, etc.? If you haven't, this might be a good idea. They're worth helping, even the Faerie quests. They might not give you np or any items, but can keep your pet(s) skillful and it will be handy, you'll see.

Play Snow Wars, it's a great game for collecting Battledome equipment. If you want to join Battledome and take on other challengers, probably the best thing would be to collect the snowballs from the 5th opponent onwards, as the 1st-4th opponents' gifts aren't as great. Sell those snowballs and earn a profit.

If after putting money in your bank you're suddenly broke, should you go back to the bank and withdraw np? I consider that an unwise choice, but if it's a must then it's a must. But if it isn't, you might be addicted. If you go broke, stop playing Neopets for a while because wasting money isn't the correct thing. To use your bank more effectively, never spend on expensive things, then decide how much you want to put in your bank. For example, if you earned about 3,000np a day, then you might want to put 2,000np a day in your account and keep the other 1,000np in hand for any goods.

Opening a shop is a very good choice, but don't make it too expensive. It would be generous of you to have cheaper prices for the poor, but if you don't help yourself first you wont be able to help the poor, and you'll wind up poor, too. You don't want to join them, do you? Make a profit so you can earn np.

Play Dice-a-Roo and Gormball, and fill your inventory. Make your prices 5np higher than what you paid for the item if the price was a 2 digit number. If it was a 3 digit number, make it 50np higher. If it was a 4 digit number, then make it 500np higher and so on.

Advanced

Whew! The hardest and most powerful stage, this is where Neopian members range from 50,000np down to 1,000np. If you open a shop with a huge size like 140 or make your shop prices extremely high (like selling a faerie for 99999np), then you're wrong. Just because your shop is big doesn't mean it will attract customers! It isn't a matter of showing people you've got the biggest and best shop, but rather how wise you are. It isn't wise to charge 99999np, is it?

You might be thinking that you've got so much money and you're so good at earning np, so you can afford to waste a lot of money on something expensive. WRONG!!! Things that are expensive might not be valuable, such as a chicken roll. Okay, so the chicken roll is mega rare, and the estimated value is 90,000np. But take a closer look at the Shop Wizard. People are selling chicken rolls for 100np! So never rely on the most rare or expensive items.

Just because you're rich doesn't mean you shouldn't feed your pet and/or make your pet unskillful. If you're doing that, then you should learn these lessons now. If you have a shop with a size of 160, but your pet's only a level 5, it would be wiser to make your pet stronger so that it could become one of the strongest pets in Neopia.

You might say, "So what? I don't feed my pets because food wastes a lot of money and they won't die, anyway. Besides, having them unskillful is alright with me, nothing will happen." If that is your way of thinking, you should try thinking another way. What if your pets said they didn't like their owner, or they might even be hungry and starving? If neopets were real, you wouldn't like to slowly see your pet fainting away from you, would you?Plus, skills such as strength, defence and agility might help you earn more np than making a huge shop with no customers.

With Battledome arriving, everyone is getting prepared. You should also get prepared so that your pet is happy and with enough money, rather than being sad and rich. Feelings are stronger than money, even in the human life.
