Memories of a Monocerous

*Kinda Based on a True Story*

Anna sat with a picture in her hand. It was a picture of all her pets: _Valorie_, _Celest_, Shawa_Kamet, and one other. It was a green Usul named Puzzle. A tear fell on Puzzle's smiling face. Anna placed the picture frame back on her nightstand and recalled the terrible memory...

It was back when all of Anna's pets were very young. Neopia was new to Anna, but she could handle many pets with no problem. She had met a friend there named Silver. Together, (since they both had magical powers) they made themselves a house with a force field around it to keep out anything that might be harmful to them. One day, Silver went out to get some new Utility Fish. She left her pets, Galilobo, Tourique, and Feeriz, with Anna while she went out to Maraqua. That night, Silver still had not come back. Anna became worried. "I wonder what's taking Silver so long. She's been gone all day," she said. Just then, there was a loud knock at the door. Galilobo perked up, ready to greet his owner with affectionate licks. Anna opened the door, but it wasn't Silver that was in front of her...

It was a Monocerous!!! Anna gasped and backed up. Shawa_Kamet, _Valorie_, Feeriz, and Tourique squealed in horror and hid under the extra large couch. _Celest_ and Galilobo stood their ground and growled. Puzzle, however, jumped out in front of Anna and faced the Monocerous boldly. The monster laughed evilly and turned around slowly to show that something in a net was tied to its massive tail.

"Silver!" Anna cried when she realized what it was. She rushed toward her and tried to untie the net. Suddenly, the Monocerous flicked its tail and flung Anna and Silver away! Puzzle's tail began to wag in irritation and he leaped at the Monocerous, claws out and teeth flashing. The Monocerous' ear bled, but it wasn't that bad. Puzzle quickly pulled out a rainbow gun and shot the monster with light. But it wasn't enough; the Monocerous lashed out with its diamond-hard hooves and kicked poor Puzzle across the room! Anna gasped, then looked at Silver. Silver nodded and conjured a ball of energy on the end of her staff and held the Monocerous in ropes of light. _Celest_ and Galilobo jumped up and unleashed light from the symbols on their foreheads. Shawa_Kamet flapped his Shoyru wings harshly, making a strong wind. _Valorie_ let loose a gush of water from the jewel on her forehead. Feeriz and Tourique shot out all the Frost Cannons they had, but it still wasn't quite enough...

Puzzle got slowly to his feet. His whole body glowed with light. The light hurled itself at the Monocerous. The monster was blasted clean through the door!!! Everyone rejoiced, but Puzzle did not. "Puzzle!" Anna cried. She rushed to his side. Puzzle opened his eyes and whispered, "Thank you... for everything..." Then his eyes closed again. "No! Puzzle!" Anna shook Puzzle, trying to wake him up. Silver came over to them and checked Puzzle's state with her staff. "I'm sorry, Anna," Silver said, "There's nothing even our magic can do." Hot tears stung Anna's eyes and slid down Anna's cheeks. Silver put her hand on Anna's shoulder.

Anna moved away to the forest and built a separate little cabin near the edge of the woods. She and Silver made a beautiful garden. Silver and Anna visited each other sometimes, but mostly just Neomessaged each other.

Now, Anna looked at the picture of Puzzle on the nightstand and stopped herself. Then she picked it up and situated it next to birthday cards that her pets had made her over the years. She smiled. Puzzle was nothing to be sad about. She should be and would be happy from now on!
