The Story of the Techos

by Kaupu

Do you remember what happened June 7th, 2000? Techo's came to Neopia. Nobody knew from where. NeoPets only told us they were fun loving, friendly, and needed an owner with a good sense of humor. People rushed to create one without a second thought. These pets just came out of the blue! No warning or anything. Perhaps NeoPets wasn't telling us something. Maybe there was a story behind them....Here is that story.

A long long time ago, there were only a few pets. Among them were the Nimmos. Nimmo's lived peaceful lives in the Neopian swamps. Everything was peaceful until one day things went horribly horribly wrong. One baby Nimmo was sitting on a lily pad. He was waiting for his owner to go ahead and finish filling out forms so he could be fully created. Nearby, two older Nimmo's were playing with a yellow bouncy ball. The game was doing nicely until the first Nimmo threw the ball hard at the second. The second Nimmo leaped to catch it but missed. The ball flew past him and SMACK! It knocked the little baby Nimmo into the water. The baby was so hurt and frightened by the ball that it ran off into the surrounding woods, never to be seen again. The little Nimmo's owner had just finished filling out forms and was coming to get her new pet. "Neemie?"she called out. She looked around but Neemie wasn't anywhere in sight. She began to worry. She approached the two Nimmos who were so shocked that they had lost the baby Nimmo that they were still sitting there.

"Have you seen my Neemie?" the girl asked sadly. The second Nimmo, Clark, opened his mouth to say something but the first Nimmo, Ralphie, put its hand over his mouth.

As Clark struggled to remove the hand from his face Ralphie said, "No, we haven't seen him, but I'm sure some other Nimmo's have. I can call them over here if you want."

"Please do!" the girl said. I want my Neemie!"

So Ralphie called to the others and when they were all there the girl said, "Have any of you seen my baby Nimmo, Neemie?"

The Nimmo's looked around and talked among themselves for a few minutes until one said, "We're sorry, but none of us have seen Neemie."

The girl burst into tears. Clark called out to the girl. "I know what happened to Neemie."

The girl looked up and stopped crying for few seconds. "R-Really?" she asked hopefully.

Clark said, "Yes. That Nimmo," he pointed at Ralphie, "threw a ball at him and scared him off into the woods. It's his fault that you'll never see Neemie again."

All of the Nimmo's were silent. Ralphie who was almost too ashamed to speak muttered, "But Clark was supposed to catch it." The girl stared at Ralphie hatefully. She was too angry to say a word. After a few minutes she turned around and walked away.

It's said that she never came back to Neopia. The Nimmo's were all extremely angry. Most were on Clarks side. "Why did you throw the ball that hard?" they yelled. "You knew an accident could happen!" The few that were on Ralphie's side said, "Yeah well, maybe if you hadn't eaten so many Neggs you could have actually caught the ball!" The Nimmo's argued for hours.

The Earth Faerie, who likes peace and quiet couldn't stand all of this arguing. She listened to the battle for awhile but soon got sick of it. The Earth Faerie went to the pond where the Nimmos lived. "ENOUGH!" she shouted. All became quiet.

"Pets of the same species should always get along. If you're going to act like two different types of NeoPets then that is what you will become." She then took out an Earth Spell. She read a spell from it and told the Nimmo's on Ralphie's side to eat a Negg each. They did as she said and nothing happened. So the Nimmo's went to bed.

The next morning, Ralphie's followers were shocked to see that they had grew taller and looked like lizards. The Earth Faerie flew to them. "You are Techos," she said. "You will go to Neopia to see if you might be adopted. I want no more fighting." With that, she flew away leaving the Nimmos and Techos alone.

The next day, Techos came to Neopia and people began to adopt them. Nothing about them was mentioned. NeoPets was afraid that if somebody knew what happened that the adoption rates of Nimmo's would drop and that nobody would adopt a Techo. Techos still live near the swamp where the Nimmo's live, but prefer to stay in the trees. The Techo's and Nimmos still haven't forgotten about the huge fight that they had, but they are now learning to be good friends.
