Good-bye Mel Transcribed: Part One

by Neo_Petter_Katherine

The Kyrii felt a sudden shock flow through her body and she opened her eyes for the first time. Around her, a thin gel swirled, blinding her vision, clogging her brain. The Kyrii panicked for air, tried to inhale but succeeded only in getting a large amount of goop stuck to the roof of her mouth. Her yellow fur was molted to her skin and her face was gaunt because of the water. The Kyrii struggled some more, and started pushing her arms about when suddenly the bottom of the metal tube in which she was located dropped away and the gel flowed out. The Kyrii choked and fell downwards and onto the hard ground, throwing it’s head about, speechlessly mouthing words as it sucked in the air greedily. It fell onto it’s front arms and walked out of the tube.

The light was blinding and it took several moments for the Kyrii’s eyes to stop burning. When they did, she felt herself being lifted into the air by something that was cold and dug into her ribcage. The Kyrii struggled hopelessly as she was dropped onto a mechanical belt with a dull thud! Confused, the Kyrii stood and put a paw to her mouth, looking in all directions.

The ground dropped away and the Kyrii shot down a waterslide-like tube and landed in a see-through crate. She pulled her ears against her head and felt the coldness seep through her fur, and she shivered.

“Mel, you are my new Kyrii!” proclaimed a voice and Mel turned to see the face of her new mother, whose face was slightly warped by the glass. Mel felt her ears untuck from her head and loved filled her body, love so hard and so thorough she wept. She leapt from the crate and into her mother’s waiting arms.

“My name is Heather, but everybody in Neopia calls me Heatherball_Girl. You, Mel, can call me Mom!”

The Kyrii opened her mouth and silently uttered the new word. “Moom.”

Heather laughed. “Close enough!” She hoisted her new NeoPet onto her shoulder and grabbed its legs to steady it from falling.

“Come on, we better move faster, or John, Zack and Nellie will be worried!”

“John? Zack? Nellie?” inquired Mel, leaping to the ground and increasing her pace alongside her mother.

“Those are my other Kyriis,” explained Mom, smiling widely. “We live on Mystery Island in a Four-Room hut, we don’t have much NP but we own a fruit orchard so we’ll never go hungry!”

Mel smiled widely and nodded, but a chunk of the love she had felt disappeared. She wasn’t the first child, nor the most special. She was just like any other Kyrii, Mel realized, Mom wouldn’t always have time for her affairs.

Nellie was red, Zack was blue and John was green. Though Zack and John were friendly when greeting Mel, Nellie simply fixed her young sister with a steely glare and mouthed a sentence that young Mel didn’t understand. Mom doesn’t love you, she loves money.

Zack and John had their own bedroom, and Mom also, but Nellie and Mel slept on cots in the living room, where a kitchenette was located. The living room was right beside the bathroom, so in the middle of the night if a family member arose it would awake Nellie and Mel.

“Hey, Mel, did you know that when somebody creates a pet they get 50 NP?” inquired Nellie, propping herself up on her hand and turning over on her cot to face Mel.

Throughout the day Mel had read four books and her intelligence was average, just like Nellie and Zack. John was bright.

“Why, no, but who cares?” Mel retorted. She didn’t much like Nellie-she was competitive and furthermore she always made Mel pick up her mess or make her a sandwich. Mel was too polite to reject Nellie’s offer.

“Well, that’s why mom created you. We didn’t have much NP, only 50, so mom created you and went to spin on the wheel of excitement. She has a gambling problem. She won 2000 NP though.”

“Great, but she said she loved me, she created me for love and not for money.”

Nellie said nothing. Her large red eyes stared at Mel unblinkingly.

“Goodnight, Mel,” Nellie said, and she knew that Mel believed her.

It was morning, and Mel ran into the bedroom down the hall to awaken her brothers. Mel made three sandwiches and left the bread out for Nellie to make her own. Nellie stared after Mel in disbelief, and anger clouded over her pleasant features.

“Mom, mom!” yelled Nellie, rushing into her mother’s bedroom. “Mel pushed me off the balcony! I was playing with her orange Fuzzle because I thought it was mine and she grabbed it and shoved me! I fell and was barely hanging on when she rushed off! You have 2000 NP please kick her out, please!” Nellie buried her face in her hands and the fake tears began. A ragged sobbing filled the air and Heather picked up her daughter and held her against her chest.

“It’s okay, Mel’ll be out by tomorrow morning.” Mom said, lovingly stroking her pet.

“Mel,” Nellie watched from behind, and an evil grin formed on her face. “Let’s go for a walk to Pet Central! I want to...uh...change your description.”

“Okay!” said Mel, and she went and grabbed her mother’s hand in her paw. Nellie followed. They walked all the way across Mystery Bridge to Pet Central and they walked into the pound.

The room was light, with Retro Wallpaper and a marble floor. Mel sighed in delight and jumped onto the Kau Print Sofa and stared the mahogany desk behind which an evil looking Techo and a pretty, calm Uni stood.

“You’re in for the time of your life,” laughed Nellie maniacally. Nellie passed 80 NP to the Techo and went to the Kau print sofa. Mel, oblivious to the going-ons, stood up and grabbed her mother’s hand when a cold, slimy hand grabbed the scruff of her neck.

“MOM! HELP!” screamed Mel. Mom turned, holding Nelli in her arms. The Techo threw open a door and screaming, agonized crying and weeps of sorrow filled the air. A dank hallway stretched out to beyond sight, and Mel knew this was her destination. “COME BACK MOM!”

“Good-bye, Mel,” Mom said coldly, before turning and leaving.
