Fly Like a Pteri

There was not a single pet in training school that was not laughing at BruceSteverino, a Christmas Bruce, the day she announced her goal in life was to fly like a Pteri. Even her best friend, Sunny_Girl390 the Yellow Chia, had tears running down her face as she tried to control herself. Why is it so hard to believe??? thought BruceSteverino. The only difference between Bruces and Pteris is that we are a bit more pleasantly plump...

BruceSteverino made an angry face and said softly, "Well, at least I have a dream!!!" When she realised nobody was listening to her, she started to head home. When she got there, her little sister, Linn992 the Red Aisha, greeted her warmly. "Hi big sister!!! I missed you!!! I wish I could go to school with you, but mommy says I'm to little..." Linn992 made a face that clearly said: I'm not as young as mommy thinks!!!

BruceSteverino smiled, "You don't want to go to school if you don't have too, Linn, nobody believes in you there..." If Linn992 had heard her, she wasn't showing it, she had gone off on a spiel about how her mother never let her do anything because she was to young. BruceSteverino sighed and walked off to her room. She wasn't surprised to see her mother, Jenna505, cleaning away.

Jenna505 didn't notice her daughter come in until she sat down on her old bed. Jenna505 jumped up. "Oh!!!You scared me!!! I didn't hear you come in." BruceSteverino sighed again and then replied, "Sorry mom, I didn't mean to..." Her mother sat down on the bed next to her and put her arm gently around her neck. "What's wrong doll???" BruceSteverino put her head in her fins, or, as she liked to call them, her wings. "Nothing mom."

Jenna505, who was not very pushy, got up. "Okay, if you say so honey, but if you change your mind, I'll be cleaning Merlin176's room..."BruceSteverino nodded. "Okay, thanks mom." Jenna505 walked out of the room, buckling under the weight of all the cleaning supplies. BruceSteverino thought about her brothers, Merlin176 and 6515314845665, (Sam for short) to Gelerts who were always at the Battledome, trying to fulfill their dream of becoming the strongest pets in Neopia.

Nobody laughs at them, why does everybody laugh at me??? Thought BruceSteverino. I'll show them, all of them!!! BruceSteverino got up and walked out of the house. She didn't know where she was going, or when she would get back, but she was going there in a hurry. As it turns out, however, she only managed to take a long walk before she was right back where she started, her house. She walked in, mildly disappointed.

Merlin176 and Sam had come back form the Battledome while she was on her walk, and they greeted her in excited voices, "Hi BruceSteverino!!!Guess what??? We won 5 battles today!!!!" cried Merlin176, the younger of the two Gelerts. Sam nodded in agreement."That's great guys..." said BruceSteverino.

Merlin176 scrunched up his face, "I thought you would be happy for us!!!" BruceSteverino smiled weakly. "I am!!! Really!!!"

They seemed unconvinced, but if they were, they didn't say anything. BruceSteverino stretched her wings, "Well, I'm tired, I'm going to go to bed..." Sam looked at his watch, "It's only 6:30!!!" BruceSteverino looked at the clock on the wall, "It is, isn't it??? Oh well, early to bed, early to rise!!!" She walked upstairs to her room without another word.

She woke to the sound of her alarm the next morning, dreading school. Then she remembered the promise to herself she had made the other day. I'll keep it too!!! She thought. She got out of bed, said good-bye to her family, and left for school. "Hey look!!!!" Someone shouted, "It's the little engine that couldn't!!!!" Ignoring the comment, BruceSteverino took a seat.

She couldn't remember a harder day. Everyone, even Sunny_Girl390 made a rude statement at one point in the day. BruceSteverino stayed strong, however, and overlooked all the remarks that were thrown her way. When school finally let out, she ran home without talking to anyone. It was the same routine for the next few days.

Until one day, when she heard someone crying out for help. She ran to see who it was. When she realised whoever it was had fallen into the giant pit on the edge of the island, she started to run even faster. Finally, she saw it was Linn992!!! "Linn!!!!" she cried. "Help me BruceSteverino!!!" she was shouting.

Without thinking, BruceSteverino dove into the pit, she caught on to Linn's tail and hung, not sure of what to do. "Ouch!!!!" screeched Linn992, and let go of the branch she had been holding on to.

"Nnnnnnnoooooo!!!!!!!" screamed BruceSteverino.

"Fly, Big Sister, fly!!!!!" cried Linn992.

How she found out about BruceSteverino's secret wish to fly, BruceSteverino will never know, but it was a miracle that she did and incredibly she flew!!!

Swinging Linn on to her back, BruceSteverino flew over the palm trees of the island to the amazement of everyone. Then she landed neatly in front of the school. All the students were silent for a moment, then they broke out in cheers. BruceSteverino whipped Linn992 off her back and onto the ground.

"What were you doing???" BruceSteverino demanded of Linn.

Linn was so excited she could hardly speak. "I was coming to get you!!! Mommy said I could.... Then I fell into that big pit!!!! That was scary so I called for help, then you came and...and...YOU FLEW!!!!!

For the first time BruceSteverino realised that she had flew.

"Wow..." she said in amazement.

By this time Sunny_Girl390 had made her way to the front of the crowd by shouting: "Make way for the hero's best buddy!!!!!" She padded BruceSteverino on the back and said, "I knew you could do it!!!"

BruceSteverino smiled brightly, "Yeah, I knew I could too!!!"
