The Ideal Neopia: On the Battledome and Evil by sol_luna_estrella | |
NEOPIA CENTRAL - A little worried, your pet takes a huge gulp of a Lime Elixir,
throws a poison snowball, and uses his Level Two ability Heal. His opponent,
as she sweats and fiercely attacks your pet, growls as your pet throws her away.
You've probably guessed where these two pets are. They are at the Battledome,
and this week, I will be making my views on the Battledome known.
My pets aren't very good fighters like many pets out there. Only my Aisha has
pretty good stats, and even those are nothing comparatively. This is because
I don't support violence.
"Oh, come on," you may be thinking. "It's not like our pets are killing each
other. It's not like they're really hurting."
Well, I don't think it feels nice to be at zero hit points. Do you?
You also may think I'm contradicting myself. I have fought in the Battledome
a few times in the one-player mode. This is because I do occasionally fight,
just so my pets keep in shape. Also, as with the Defenders of Neopia, if something
needs to be done, it will be done...but I don't approve of fighting often, especially
with other pets. It is different when you fight a Chia Clown because they are
evil, but when you fight another innocent pet owned by another player, it seems
pointless. It's just like Earth when you're flipping through the channels when
you suddenly see a couple big guys beating each other up for no reason. No offence
to any wrestling fans.
There are, I must admit, those pets that just want to fight; it's in their
blood. They love fighting. Maybe it is all right for them, as long as their
fighting another pet who is also willing themselves.
In the ideal Neopia, I believe that fighting would not be a hobby of people,
but only so you can protect Neopia. Fighting would no longer be a sport, but
a noble thing to do. What should you do to work towards this goal this week?
It is simple; unless you have maybe scheduled a time for a fight, don't fight.
Of course, with the new plot and all, and the need to fight to conquer evil,
then fight for Neopia, but otherwise, don't fight just for fun. I can't imagine
it would be fun for your poor pet.
On Evil
You're happily walking home with your Neopet, clutching a Starry Paint Brush.
Suddenly, you see a streak of blue. It rests, and you see that it is-
The Pant Devil.
It cackles insanely, then seizes the paint brush and rushes away.
It sounds familiar to most of us, I think. The Pant Devil has paid most of
us a visit. It's the same with Sloth's zapping an item into sludge.
Both Sloth and the Pant Devil are part of the Gallery of Evil. That is what
I will be discussing in this week's article of The Ideal Neopia series. There
are so many different kinds of creatures in that gallery-the Ghost Lupe, Balthazar,
Monocerous, Lava Ghoul, Grarrl Battlemaster...there are a lot. Some even have
good points. The Ghost Lupe can restore all your pets' hit points. However,
he is still evil.
The question is: in the Ideal Neopia, will these evil creatures exist? They
are evil, after all, but they make the game of Neopets so much more interesting.
Without them, Neopets might actually get a little boring because there aren't
so many unexpected twists, and the plots wouldn't exist if there weren't any
evil creatures in Neopia.
Maybe, you believe that evil things should be banished forever. In one respect,
I agree. After all, they are evil! Do you want demons wreaking havoc everywhere?
I certainly don't. The Lava Ghoul, the Pant Devil, and even the Ghost Lupe are
examples of malevolent, malicious fiends that people encounter daily while playing
their favourite game or playing with their pet' s favourite toy. It certainly
isn't fun to suddenly have some gourmet food you were just about to feed your
pet suddenly stolen away, never to return.
However, there is also the interest factor. How fun would Neopets be if everything
was predictable? How thrilling would it be without the small, niggling fear
that the Tax Beast will creep up on you? Okay, so it would still be fun, and
evil is bothersome, but what about big plots? Those plots are key enhancers
to the entertainment that Neopets can provide. Without evil, we couldn't follow
these stories and fight for Neopia.
Consequently, I ask you this final question:
What do you think? |
