A Taitl Tale: Part One

by squieshie

I was located outside, in some deserted place. My mother and siblings had abandoned me, only because I was shaded in a blue colour, not a red. I didn't really care, though, because they didn't matter much to me. They never fed me, so I was starving when they abandoned me. Since I was only a small blue Ixi, I was also close to dying, from the lack of being fed. But soon after they left me in a tall grass field, on a steaming hot day, I went in search of food, and I found a whole lot. I ate all of it, and was still a little hungry afterward, so I scavenged for more, and found another good dose of it. After finishing that dish, I was bloated, so I wandered around on the deserted place, wondering what to do next.

There were no Neopets, none at all. There were only streams, and tall pines crowding the place all over. I wondered where my so called mother and my siblings were? Where had they gone? I traced everywhere around the strange island roughly sixteen times, and they were nowhere in sight. But then I spotted a big ocean, I hadn't noticed before. It went out an extremely long way, I couldn't see anything else farther out.

"Hey," I said to myself. "Maybe I can make a raft... and then float across that ocean!" I grinned to myself, being proud of my idea, so I ran towards a tall pine tree, and wondered how I could break a chunk off. Even though I was a small blue Ixi, and only a week old, I was pretty smart.

I began by biting the bark, but that didn't help much. So, I wandered around, and I spotted a Giant stick. It was really heavy, but somehow I managed to pick it up, and stab the tree. I stabbed it for probably about ten minutes, and then it started to loosen, so I dug around in the tree, using the stick's pointy end. Finally, I ripped off a big piece of tree bark, and stood on it. It was pretty sturdy, and it was about eight feet long, so I had a lot of room to put a lot of supplies, like food on it. I grabbed the piece of bark with my mouth, and dragged it to the edge of the mysterious island, and set it down. I then began searching for more food. I found a lot of food, a piece of cheese, a bundle of ripe bananas, some old bags of neo-chips half full, some delicious looking fruit, ripe from some trees I had found on the other side of the island, away from all of the pines.

It was getting pretty hot, considering it was midsummer. I ran out to my giant piece of bark I had left by the ocean, and set the food down on top of it. I then put my dirty hoof into the ice cold water. It felt good, so I bent down to take a drink. It was gross water, it tasted salty. The water I had gotten from my mother was fresh, and tasty. Though I was thirsty, I knew I had to go on. But I couldn't decide whether I should leave at that moment, or wait until tomorrow morning. If I waited until tomorrow, then I would have to find shelter inside a log, and I wouldn't be able to bring the huge piece of bark with me, because a log wasn't anywhere in sight. So I decided to go right then. Anyway, I thought. I might just get there before dark. How far could it be?

     I was stupid.

I set the bark on the water, and grabbed the food, along with the big jabbing stick, in case I needed to row my 'boat'. Then, I hopped on the boat, and sat down, comfortably. The wind was going west, I could tell, because that was the direction the sun was setting in. My mother told my siblings and I all that the sun always rose in the east, and it set in the west. So off it went. I was going slow at first, but then the wind began to pick up, and I was going faster and faster. I was quite fun, actually, but then I went slow, the rest of that day. Soon it became dark, but I didn't want to go to sleep, because what if there were gigantic waves, and It knocked me off of my boat? So I stayed awake for about three or four hours after the sun had set, and it was pitch black, so I didn't know what direction I was going, or anything. Then I reached behind me to grab some food, but it was gone. I scrambled on to my feet, and looked where I was sitting. No food. I panicked. What could have happened to it? After about thirty minutes or worrying, I fell asleep. I couldn't help myself, either, my eyes just wouldn't stay open. I awoke in what seemed like forever, but it was still dark out. Thank goodness I hadn't fallen off of the large piece of bark. I was about to fall asleep again, but I felt a few wet drops. Rain drops. This couldn't be good.

I looked up in the sky. Yep, it sure was rain. And I was so stupid. I didn't bring anything to cover myself. I curled up in a ball, shivering. The rain was getting fiercer, by the minute. Soon giant waves shot up, like a bullet. They were heading towards me. I put my little Ixi hooves over my head, to shield it from the rain, but unfortunately, it did no good. Soon, the waves reached my raft. I stood still, really still. The waves knocked the bark up, and I rolled off of it, and toppled into the air, then splashed into the freezing cold water. I didn't know how to swim, and I couldn't see anything, the rain was everywhere. I tried to dog-paddle a ways, but I couldn't. I just wasn't strong enough. I knew that this was the end.

But I thought of an idea, straight away. Why hadn't I thought of it before? I swam into the water, and opened my eyes, even though it hurt from the saltiness of the water. I swam, hurriedly, and went up to the surface every once in a while, for a breath or two. I made it quite a ways. The waves were still raging, and the rain was still beating hard against the ocean. Soon, I felt soft sand when I was swimming underwater. I stood up. I had made it. The rain was still hard, so I ran onto a beach, and scrambled under a nearby leaf that was a little bigger than me. I had made it. I fell asleep, but only for a while, for a big crash had awoken me. I opened my eyes. I saw a big flash. I had never seen it before, but my mother had warned me of it, like many other things. Lightning. I ran out from under the leaf, hesitating where to go. I heard another big crash, and my heart skipped a beat, from being so scared. I chose to go under a huge tree, with many leaves. I sat down, and watched the raging storm. I didn't know where I was, but at least I was off that strange, deserted place.

I looked at the rain. The sound of it pouring down was soothing. I fell asleep, all curled up in a ball.

I woke up hours later, most likely. I walked out onto the sand, and looked up into the sky. The rain had stopped. Completely. But I spotted a little drop coming down on me. I splattered on my left cheek. Usually it wouldn't matter if just a tiny little raindrop splattered on you're cheek. But for some reason, a jolt of pain shot through my body right when the raindrop touched my cheek. I shrugged it off, and walked in no particular place. I spotted a house. It was kind of like a hut, made out of bamboo. It looked quite odd, but I knocked on the door, anyway. I few seconds later, a green creature answered the door. I had never seen it before, so I figured it was probably another kind of Neopet.

     "Hello," the green creature said.

She sounded kind, so I replied with a mere, "Hello. You are you?"

"Good, I guess..." The green creature frowned. "Who are you?"

     I hesitated. I didn't even have a name! "I-I don't.. Well... I don't have a name..."

"You don't?" the green creature replied. "Well, then. Anyway, I'm Daemie. A green Blumaroo. And I see you are a blue Ixi." So that was what she was, a Blumaroo. That words buzzed in my head for a while.

"Umm..." I started. "Not to be rude, or anything, but can I come in?"

"Sure!" Daemie smiled, and bounced inside, signalling me to follow.

     "I don't have a home," I squeaked.

"You don't?" Daemie asked. "What ever happened to you're owner?"

"Owner?" I questioned. "What's an owner?"

"You don't know what an owner is?" Daemie glanced back at me. "Well, it is a person who takes care of you. They get Neopoints, so they can buy you toys, and food, and maybe even a petpet. But you'll have to be real good if you went one of those. That's what Melissa says."

"What? What is a person? What are Neopoints? What is petpet? What is Melissa?" I was wondering what so many things were, and there were probably a lot more to know about. It was going to take me a long time to figure everything out.

Daemie looked at me. She looked at me weirdly. "I think you are going to have to have some catching up to do, little Ixi."

     "Huh? O-okay..."

"Say," Daemie asked. "Why do you have a raindrop on you're left cheek?"

"What are you talking about?" I wondered.

"Here. Follow me!" Daemie walked inside a room. "Look inside this mirror." I looked at the mirror object. It was the most fascinating thing I had seen, in my little life. I could see my little blue Ixi self inside of it. But I also noticed a small light blue raindrop on my left cheek. I tried to wipe it off, but nothing happened. It actually didn't look like a real raindrop, but it was shaped like one you would draw on a piece of paper. It wasn't a perfect circle, it was an oval, with a pointy top.

"That is weird," I said, rubbing the raindrop. But then it all came back to me. I remembered when the last little raindrop splattered against my cheek, and I felt a jolt of pain. It must have left a mark, or something. Whatever it was, it was interesting. As I thought about it, it ached a little bit. I kept rubbing it. Just then, a girl came into the room.

"Hi!" she said she seemed friendly, like the Blumaroo. "Who's this, Daemia?"

"Hi, Melissa! Oh, she doesn't have a name. She doesn't have a home either... Can she stay with us?" Daemia asked. I smiled, real big towards Melissa, so she would say yes.

"I'm afraid not, Daemia. I'm so sorry. I just don't have the Neopoints to take care of two Neopets. It's hard enough on me as it already is. And by the way, it's dinner time, so can you say goodbye to you're little friend?" Melissa sounded really sorry, but rude at the same time. I frowned, as I walked out the door.

"Bye, little Ixi. Maybe I'll see you again." Daemia frowned, and closed the door slowly.

I looked up in the sky. It was clear, to there was probably not going to be any rain that night. I walked off of their porch. The bright red sun was setting, so I had just enough time to find some food scraps and get to some shelter. I walked around for quite some time. I heard pets playing, and laughing, having fun. I wished I was one of those pets. I was staring at the pets, and I wasn't watching where I was going. I tripped over a rock, and I hit the ground hard.

"Whoa!" I shouted. I quickly got up after I had tripped, and brushed myself off.

"Ha, ha!" a Neopet that was playing with some others recalled. "Have a nice trip! See you next fall!" Some other Neopets laughed gleefully along with him, and they went back to their business. I ran over to a tree, my hooves swishing in the sand. I sat down, and looked at my wound. Just then, a red Neopet ran up to me.

"Don't listen to them. Are you all right?" She asked.

     "Yeah, I guess," I replied.

"Hey, what's you're name?" the pink Neopet asked.

     "I.. I don't have a name..." I replied, hanging my head.

"Really? I'm rayn--" The pink Kacheek looked back at all of the other pets. "Oh, sorry, I have to go! Bye!" Then she ran off to play with the other Neopets. I watched them playing, and sometimes the pink Neopet and I exchanged glances, and giggled. If only she had told me her name. I closed my eyes, the sun was about to set. But suddenly I heard screams from all of the other Neopets.

"Watch out!!!" I heard the pink Neopet yell. I opened my eyes, not knowing what was happening. A net was covering me. I tried to scramble out of it, but I was trapped.

"Hey! Let me go!" I shouted to whoever was holding the net. I looked over my shoulder. It was a yellow Neopet, that looked kind of like a lizard, with grey hair. He looked mad, and sad at the same time.

"You're coming with me, little Ixi." He grunted.

"Wh-what?" I asked. "Where are you taking me?"

The yellow Neopet looked at me, and muttered, "The pound."

To be continued...

Feel free to Neomail me with comments on my story. I will reply to every one of them, so don't be shy =) I would be glad to hear what you think about my story. All characters besides Taitl, Miressi, Kaupeey, Waffle-Ducky, Xraie, rayneboery, squieshie, mulan_345, and shopowner85130 are made up, and they are not really the real Neopets/people that I refer to in my story. o_O Thanks!
