A Hard Earned Neopoint

by hivenperious

THE MORNING STARTED as usual; I got up and ready for work. Something that made this day interesting was that both Blade and Jet were already awake, they normally never are. As I continued to get ready for work and was thinking about how I could make more Neopoints, I began to overhear a conversation between Jet and Blade. Blade said as he began to lie down, "Are you curious at who is stronger?"

"Oh, I know who is stronger, it is me!" Jet bragged as she lay down next to Blade.

"No you're not I am," he replied getting a little angry.

"Ya right, you couldn't do a Lupe Prowl correctly if you tried!" Jet replied, getting up.

Blade stood up and said, "Oh ya? Watch this!"

Blade began to do the Lupe Prowl around Jet. When Blade had her right where he wanted her he attacked, jumping at her. Jet, defending her, used her Sword of Domar to parry the attack. Blade missed and landed into the wall of the house. The house began to shake. Jet was laughing uncontrollably and Blade was trying to regain his balance. I ran into the room worriedly asking, "Why did the house just shake? What happened?"

They both lowered their eyes and said, "We were just seeing who was stronger."

I relaxed and said, "Okay, as long as no one was hurt."

The Mail Gelert rang the doorbell. I walked over to open it. I saw that the he was shivering. I thought it was from the cold, since we live on Terror Mountain, but then I noticed that Ace was right behind him. I looked up at the Gelert and smiled. "Don't worry he won't do a thing."

The Mail Gelert sighed, "Oh thank you and here is your mail today," and walked off to the next house.

I looked through the mail and had about eighteen Neomessages. My pets came over to know if they had any. I said, "All right, Ace you have one. Blade you have five. Jet you have ten messages and the other two are for me."

My pets went off to go read their messages, while I decided to read my messages at my desk. I opened the first letter; it was a list of questions. I went and got some paper and a pen, and started to write my response. While I was writing, Ace came into the room, we exchanged glances, and he came up and lay down on the table.

About five minutes later, I finished the letter, walked outside and down the driveway to my mailbox, put the letter in, and raised the shinny red flag. I went back inside and sat down in my chair, and picked up the second letter. Just when I was opening the letter, the phone rang. I picked it up. "Hello?" I asked.

"Yes, hi this is Rocky from the Battledome. I have an offer for you," he said.

        "Continue," I replied

"I would like Blade and Jet to fight each other, it would help support the Battledome and we would gladly pay you," he said with an announcer's voice.

Knowing that this was a big break because now I wouldn't have to worry about work for a while I said, "Hold on a second," and put him on hold.

Jet and Blade ran over asking, "Was that for me?"

I said, "Yes, go over to the phone I will let you handle this." I left the room and Ace who was on the other side followed me out as I shut the door.

Ace and I went outside. It was a partly cloudy day, and the tree, which was right next to the window, was bending slightly in the breeze. I sat down on the grass in our front yard; Ace brought a ball over to me and laid it down wagging his tail. I picked it up, threw it as far as I could, and said, "Fetch."

Ace crouched down low and then vanished. He appeared on the other side of the street waiting for the ball to come down out of the air. He jumped up and caught it, and walked back proudly. I smiled shaking my head. He laid the ball back down and said, "I must go to my training at Mystery Island, I will see you later," and he vanished.

I lay down on the ground and began to doze off, when I heard another thump against the wall of the house. I rolled over to see what was going on. There was nothing visible from the front of the house, so I decided to go check the back. I got up and walked along the side of the house. Noticing that there was smoke coming from around the corner, I ran to find tons of smoke. I stood in awe waiting for the smoke to clear. As it did, I saw to figures lying on top of each other not moving, I ran over to find Jet on top Blade. I shook them, very delicately to see if they were conscious. Jet moaned as she tried to get up, unsuccessfully falling back on top of Blade. Blade then yelled, "Ouch, that hurt!" as he struggled to get out from under Jet.

Jet rolled off of him, so he could get up. Jet tried again to get up, and was barely able to stand up. The smoke had almost completely cleared, and I saw Blade and Jet more clearly. Jet seemed to be out of breath and very weak, while Blade's muscles seemed to be bulged from using his strength. "Are you guys okay?" I asked.

Blade and Jet looked at each other, and then nodded. Now that I was paying more attention to my surroundings, I heard water gushing. I turned around to find the water main has broken and that a huge hole had been created through the gold wall in Ace's Lounge! I began to feel light-headed. My jaw dropped down to the ground, and I stood still not moving but just looking at the destroyed wall. I turned to Blade and Jet, they got low to the ground, put their tails through their legs, and back away. Finally, I tried to talk, "How… What… Who… Should I even ask?"

Blade smiled and said, "No, I think you better not," as both Jet and Blade ran off.

I tried to follow them, but when I got to the front of my house I looked up and down the street. Blade and Jet were not in sight. I thought to myself, where could they have gone? A few of the people passing by, slowed down to look at the house, and then left without a word. My neighbour from across the street walked over and said, "What happened?

        "It's a long story," I replied.

"Okay, well one question for ya," he said.

"All right shoot," I replied in a challenging voice.

"Have you heard the recent news?" he asked.

        "No, but why?" I replied.

"Because your two pets Blade and Jet are going to be fighting in the Battledome!" he said excitedly.

"Very funny, so what did you really want to say?" I asked.

"No I am serious, go and turn on your television and look," he said.

I ran inside followed by Ace and my neighbour. I turned on the television. It was on commercials so I waited. Then the advertisement came on, it said, "Bored and have nothing to do? Want to go to something exciting? Then come to the Battledome at five o'clock today, to see the fight that everyone has wanted to see. The fight will be against Blade and Jet. This will finally settle the dispute between who is stronger."

Ace looked at me, and ran off. I ran after him. He stopped next to the mailbox and waited for me. "Are you coming?" he asked.

"Ya," I replied trying to catch my breath.

Just then, a limo came down our street honking its horn. Some passer-bys stopped dead in their tracks and watched as the limo pulled up in front of our house. The window in the back of the limo rolled down. "Hi, I am Rocky. I called you earlier. They accepted the fight. Come on in."

He opened up the door, and let Ace and I get in. He shut the door and the limo sped off. I sat in the car silently, but Rocky was telling me all of the rules that I must follow. "It is going to be the fight of the century, I think," he said.

As we got closer, I began to see more people. "Just curious," I said, "How many people are attending this fight?"

Rocky replied, "It's a sell out. Oh, and when we get out, there are going to be tons of people wanting to talk to you and taking pictures, I suggest you ignore all of it, and proceed to the locker room where you will find Blade and Jet in different areas. You are allowed to go and talk to them."

We pulled up to the competitors' entrance of the Battledome The Chia police were making sure no one was going over the barrier that made us our path through the crowd of people. Rocky opened up the door and said, "It's show time."

I steeped out, and the cameras began to click. There were so many people taking pictures I could barely see. "Hi, I am a reporter from the Neopian Fighters Magazine; may I ask a few questions?"

I did as Rocky said an ignored her, and made my way to the door. It was being held open for me by two gigantic bodyguards, who were Grarrls. I walked through to find a wide-open hallway completely made of concrete. I turned back to ask Rocky a question, but he had stayed in the limo. I walked down the hallway, reading the labels on the doors. About half way to the end of the hallway, I saw a door with the title "LOCKER ROOM". I opened the door and progressed into a room full of nothing, except a few seats and tons of lockers. "Blade are you in here?" I asked.

        "No," was the reply.

"Jet? Is that you?" I asked.

"Yes, I am glad you showed up," she said.

I began to walk towards her, but she raised her paw. I stopped in my tracks and without saying another word, I turned and left. When the door closed behind me, I wondered where the other locker room could be. I turned left, and walked down the hallway. I saw Ace come out of one of the rooms. "Let's get ready. Blade says he doesn't want to be disturbed he is meditating. Ace and I walked down the hallway. Suddenly we heard a loud roar from the crowd above us. The music came on as we looked through a big archway at the end. I ran down to the entrance. Rocky was in the ring with a microphone. In an announcer's voice Rocky yelled, "Welcome everyone. Tonight is the night you have all been waiting for. The battle between Blade and Jet!"

The crowd roared, cheering for the both of them. The music became a menacing one. Rocky said the fighter's names and looked at the referee.

Jet and Blade stayed in their corners. The referee gave Rocky the nod, and Rocky turned to the crowd and yelled, "The time has come, Lets Get Ready to Rumble!!!"

The crowd roared. Blade and Jet stood up. The referee raised his hand, then the bell rang, and he lowered it saying, "Fight!!!"

Blade looked at Jet. They didn't move. The crowd was still cheering, and Rocky came over to me. "Wow there are even bets on this fight, I am not sure how to thank you."

I nodded and watched the ring. Blade's ears began to flicker. He began to do the Lupe Prowl around Jet. Jet only moving her eyes, was watching his every step. When Blade had her right where he wanted, he attacked. Blade's paw was going right for the face. Jet, ducked and dodged the attack then did a sweep kick. Blade was swept off his feet, he landed on his front paws and did a hand spring back to his feet. Without the slightest hesitation, he kneed Jet then jumped away into a defence position. Jet, fell onto one knee, and then got back up snarling. "Is that all you got?" she asked.

"Nope, just a warm up," Blade said smirking.

Blade and Jet ran at each other, then they jumped at each other, Jet threw a punch toward the face, and it was blocked and countered by a tail whip. The tail whip was dodged by Jet, and then she punched him in the stomach sending him flying across the ring, right into the wall. The crowd roared and gasped, depending on whom they were rooting for. Ace, who was next to me, began to open his mouth. "What?" I asked.

"Can't you see, Jet hit Blade so hard, there is a dent in the stone wall of the ring!" he replied.

I began to pay more attention to the match. I said to Ace, "Then it is time, their fun is over. Now they are going to fight for real."

Ace looked up at my confused, and then looked back to the ring. Blade now getting back up to his feet said, "You'll pay for that."

The fire on Blade's ears started to move. The crowd also saw this and fell silent. Blade began to yell not saying anything, but just yelling. The rest of the fire on his body began to move. Jet watched with no expression. Blade screaming as loud as he could, stood up completely and said some magic word, I couldn't hear it. Suddenly, a fire exploded around Blade, making the ground shake. Blade yelled, "Fire Blaze!!!" He lifted up his hand. The crowd roared. A ball of fire appeared above his paw and he threw it at Jet.

Jet yelled "Bubble Shield, maximum strength!"

Bubbles began to come from behind Jet. Suddenly a shiny ball of bubbles surrounded her. The fireball was about a foot away from her, when the bubble shield was fully up. The fireball hit the shield and exploded. The shock wave from the explosion blew Ace into the wall. The smoke cleared, and the ring had a huge crater in it. The crowd yelled. Some were cheering for Jet, some others for Blade, others were just cheering for the fun of it. "Haha, you are going to have to do a lot better than that if you plan to beat me," Jet sneered.

Blade not responding began to snarl. His muscles began to bulge and electricity sparks began to come from under him. Jet ran at him as fast as she could. Blade raised his paw and made a fist. The electricity formed a ball in his paw. Just when that happened, Jet hit Blade by doing a jump attack before Blade could do anything with the electricity. The electricity fell down on top of Jet, who was wrestling with Blade now. It hit her on the back, and it covered her whole body, shocking her. It continued down and made it's way onto Blade and shocked him. "Ouch!" Jet yelled and swiped Blade across the face.

Jet jumped off, and began to yell, "Twisting Vines!"

The ground began to shake. Suddenly, two gigantic vines came from under Blade. They wrapped him up, to where he couldn't move. Blade was struggling as hard as he could, but was stuck. Jet yelled, "Now to finish you off! Quench!!!"

For most, they didn't realise that the roof of the Battledome was open. It was a partly cloudy day. But once that command was given, the sky became dark as clouds began to form. Lightning was flashing all around, and thunder followed making some of the loudest booms you will ever hear. Then the rain came, only in small drops. Jet yelled, "Engage!"

The crowd watched in awe. The water droplets formed a huge ball over Blade. "No!" Blade yelled.

The ball had completely formed directly over Blade. Jet, who was laughing, yelled "Freefall!"

The ball of water fell toward Blade. Blade tried with all of his might to get free, but the vines only became tighter. The water drenched Blade. Blade yelled and the fire on his body vanished. "Withdraw," Jet yelled.

The vines went back into the ground. Blade was still standing, his fur was drenched and instead of his fur being a fire colour, his fur was now nothing but black. Jet got into a defence stance, with a face of amazement. Blade ran at Jet, and the gap in between them became smaller and smaller. Blade raised his paw to attack and suddenly he collapsed and fell to the ground. Because of all of the speed he was using, he slid all the way up to right in front of Jet. The referee ran over, and started the count saying, "One, two, three, and four…"

As the count continued, Blade didn't move. Jet stared at Blade. "Seven, eight, nine, ten. That's it. Jet is the winner!"

The crowd roared. The victory music began and the lights were doing their multicoloured dance around the dome. Jet followed the referee over to the trophy. "The winner!" the referee said as he gave Jet the trophy. The cameras flashed, and the crowd cheered.

Jet, occupied with the media, gave me time to go see how Blade was. I ran over onto the ring, and next to Blade. I petted him, he didn't respond. Ace came over to me. I continued to pet him, a little faster than before. "This can't be good," Ace said.

I lifted Blade up and brought him to the locker room. I laid him down on one of the benches. Ace followed behind me and then came up beside me. It began to get quieter as the fans filed out of the building. Ace looked at me, "Want me to work my magic?"

        "Sure, go ahead," I replied.

Ace put both of his paws on Blade's back. Ace's voice, as he said the spell, echoed, "OCHO KAKDNIC REGEN!"

Ace's paws began to glow yellow. The fire began to return to Blade's fur. Ace removed his hands, while Blade began to open his eyes. He was in a daze, I started to pet him and his body began to relax. "A girl beat a boy, that's going to be embarrassing," Blade sighed.

        I smiled, "Yep."

Rocky came into the room, "Ah, here you are. I have been looking all over for you. Here is the reward money."

        "What reward money?" I replied.

"For Blade and Jet fighting, of course," he said.

Rocky put the money down on the table. "It's 80,000 Neopoints"

"Thanks," I said, "Glad to do business with you."

Rocky left the room. I turned to Blade saying, "I guess you wanted to fight, huh?"

Blade said, "Yep, it was worth it to. We now have 80,000 extra Neopoints to spend."

Jet said, "Hiya, are you ready to go home now?"

        "Yes," I replied.

Instead of getting a ride home from Rocky, I decided to walk home and my pets followed. I walked slowly, letting the cool wind hit my face. It was beginning to become dark. None of us said a word. When we got back to our house I stopped and turned to Blade and Jet, "I am glad you decided to do this, it will help us a lot."

Jet responded, "It was worth it, but I will never do it again. Fighting just isn't something I like to do."

        Blade added, "Me neither."

The mailbox was full of letters. I picked them up, and shuffled through them quickly to make sure, the Mail Gelert had taken my letter. I began to browse through the mail, but most of them were challenges. Ace, Blade, and Jet stayed behind me as I opened up the front door. When the door was opened, a Lupe appeared sitting on the floor looking up at me. I bent down to get a better look at it, it was a yellow Lupe. I turned around to face my pets. All of them were getting ready to protect me. Ace, using his speed, appeared behind the Lupe so it had nowhere to go. The yellow Lupe still didn't move except for she was standing now. Ace's eyes went from a normal blue to completely yellow, he looked like he was in a trance but I wasn't sure. Suddenly, the Lupe howled and Ace's eyes went back to normal. He looked up at me and said, "Let's keep her."

I looked down at her as I began to notice that she was going to be very special. "Okay, welcome to the pack," I said, "Do you have a name?"

Ace came up in front me and said, "Yes, she does. Her name is Jewel."

Once that was said Jewel ran off, seeming to be very mad. She ran into Jet's room and locked herself in. Nothing that was happening made sense. Not caring to find out what was going on; I sat back down, at my desk. I read the card and then proceeded to have cake with my pets. After the festivities had ended, Jet, Blade, and Jewel went to sleep. Jewel was going to share her bed with Jet. Ace stayed up with me, while I rejected all of the challenges for Blade and Jet. I finally, got to the last letter. It was from the Battledome This raised my curiosity, why would I have a Neomessage from them? Ace, also interested, watched as I opened the letter. Ace became a sick pale colour and he began to shake. I asked, "Are you okay?"

He closed his eyes, and fell onto the couch. I smiled, picked him up and brought him to his bed. My whole body began to feel like it was in pain, because the realisation of all of that money was as easily earned as it was taken. It was all gone, except for one stupid Neopoint. I got into my bed, and closed my eyes. Outside it began to rain and thunder. I felt something jump on the bed. I opened my eyes to see Jewel coming up the bed, I had completely forgotten about her; she came up under my arm and snuggled against me. The pain that I once had began to go away as I took a deep sigh, smiled, and went to sleep.
