Chias - Food or Friend? by comedian872001 | |
NEOPIA CENTRAL - Al_the_chia
has given me his permission to study Chias. The reason I asked him is so that
he doesn't think I am copying him. Just thought I'd note that. Chiology, I call
it. For my first study, I interviewed people to see whether they thought Chias
were food or friend. Here are my results, followed by my own observations.
Out of nine people interviewed:
Food: 78%
Friend: 22%
Of course, these results obviously do not go with a lot of the millions of
Neopians.
Then I asked people who said food, "Why did you choose food?"
One Neopian who wishes to remain anonymous said, "Cuz Chias are ugly I don't
want to have one as a friend." Go_leafs_go222 said, "I think Chias are good
food because they are plump and juicy. I'm sure they taste good and come in
a lot of different flavours."
Afterwards I asked what their favourite Chia-shaped food is. Anonymous said,
"Well it's not shaped like a Chia but Blue Orange Chia Pop." Go_leafs_go222
said, "Yup: chocolate Chias or the real thing."
I did, of course, ask the Chia friends why they chose friend.
One mysty_rain_ said, "Chias are friends because they are cute little pets.
Only Lupes would eat a Chia and I hate Lupes!" After I explained that not just
Lupes are Chia-eaters, she said, "Yeah you're right, I guess I just don't like
carnivores. I don't have any on either of my accounts." She later said, "I know
that the carnivore pets have a right to eat too but there is no reason they
have to hunt and kill their food, Chias are too sweet and cute to eat. In a
perfect Neopia, pet owners should feed their pets farm grown food made just
for them." Now of course, there is no such thing as a perfect Neopia so this
will never happen, unless everyone's mind fuses. Nysku came up with a very long
and interesting reply. In fact, she deserves her own paragraph.
"I say 'friend' because Chias should be treated equally among all other pets!
I also have a Lupe, which is not blood thirsty for Chias! Why shouldn't a Chia
be treated equally? Why should they be treated... well, like a treat? it's not
fair, they are just as cute, just as tough in the Battledome, so I really don't
get why some people hate them... Basically, I say a friend because they are
just as equal to other Neopets! They don't do anything differently, and are
just looking for people to be friends with:) They are innocent, and therefore
should not be treated like treats! LOL... that's just my opinion of course...:)"
She and I had a very interesting conversation about the Chia-Lupe debate and
other such topics, but I will not make this article double what it should be,
so I will move on.
Chias are the perfect food for large carnivorous or omnivorous Neopets They
have no visible legs, just feet. This might cause them to waddle everywhere.
Waddling is not a very fast mode of transportation. Their eyes are closed, and
they have no visible ears or noses. My hypothesis is that the ancient Chia needed
none of these to survive. It probably had claws, and dug underground, like moles.
They survived by vibrations. Perhaps a few brave Chias ventured above. At first
they would've been very weak on the topsoil, because they would only be able
to sense vibrations through their feet, and not their whole bodies. Large Neopets
found them very easy to catch and eat. Some were lucky and escaped. After many
years, they evolved into the Tyrannian Chia, a fierce warrior breed of Chia
Their claws are gone, and they can see a little more than before, and are used
to sensing through their feet. They probably use clubs to defend themselves.
Yet, some Chias may go ballistic and attack anything that looks like a predator.
Many predators can't defend themselves from these Chias, so they must consider
them friend, not food.
Most Chias aren't so warrior-like, unless some people train them to be. I've
seen Chias who could beat a lot of Neopets. Even though Chias don't appear strong,
they can be. However, most Chias are still considered food, not friend. My Lupe
likes to eat Chia-like food, all except for the Meaty Lupe Treat, which pretty
much breaks the stereotype. She would never eat a Chia that had an owner, although
she might eat a wild Chia if it happened to anger her somehow. So, she considers
them possible food.
Basically, I would like to conclude with the fact that it is not my choice
whether you think they're food or friend, it's yours; but you probably already
know that. Chias can be great friends, but they can also be excellent food.
