The Importance of Logging Out

by plump_mikki

Hello, this is plump_mikki. I am writing this article in response to something dire that happened to me on Monday, May 6. All of you are probably saying right now, "Well hurry up and tell us already! What happened to you?" (But then again, you might not really care...)

I was in my fourth period class, pumped and ready to go online to visit my favourite site--NeoPets! I sat down, logged in, and did my normal routine-grab an omelette, pay a respectful visit to good ol' Coltzan (incidentally, he gave me a burnt cookie... so nice), pop over to the oh so wonderful Tombola, and spin the amazing Fruit Machine. Then I decided to pop over to the Bank to collect my hard earned interest, when, lo and behold, I found that I no longer could because (and I quote) I have deposited and/or withdrawn Neopoints today. That means "I" will not be able to collect "my" interest until tomorrow. I sat there stunned for a bit.

"That cannot be!" I thought frantically. "I haven't been on NeoPets for over two days! What is happening?!

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks! I must have forgotten to log out of NeoPets! I was horror struck and dumbfounded and frantic! I didn't know what to do.

I told my friends sitting next to me the calamity that had just occurred, and they looked on as I went through my possessions to see if anything was missing. (A lot of people right now might be saying or thinking that it's my fault for forgetting to log out of NeoPets. I know that it's my fault. I am beating myself over the head with a handy frying pan even as I write this. The reason why I'm writing this is to let people know what they can do if they're still logged in to NeoPets on a computer that other people can use and they cannot reach that computer right away and they don't want anything taken from them. Anyway, back to the article.)

The only thing I found missing was my Dire Lupe NeoQuest Plushie. The only thing important anyway. I might have overlooked and other stuff was missing, but that was the only thing I really missed. I was soooo thankful they didn't take my Chocolate Covered Eye! All in all, I only lost the plushie and about 20,000 Neopoints. (At this point, my friend told me, "At least they were nice enough not to take everything." Ha. More than likely, they ran out of time to wipe me out and had to go to another class. I was still logged in to a computer in the school library.)

After finishing the assignment Mrs. Teacher Lady bestowed upon us, I went back to NeoPets to see if there was something I could to to get logged out of that computer in the library because I knew that Mrs. Teacher Lady (despite that fact that she is a sweetheart) would probably not let me mosey on down to the library to log out on the computer there. I desolately wandered about the site wondering where I could go to get some help. Then I realised that I could probably find help at the HELP section of NeoPets.

"What a novel idea," I thought while clicking on the HELP button.

Being the shy person that I am, I didn't really want to approach the friendly looking Zafara that boldly proclaimed, "I know absolutely EVERYTHING about Neopia!" I went around her and popped over to the place where you change your preferences thinking as I did so, "Perhaps if I change my password, I will be logged out before anymore damage can be done!"

Turns out, I was right, which brings me to the point of this article (Finally! Everybody can now breath a sigh of relief.). If, like me, you accidentally forget to log off a computer that you have no way to access any time soon and you know that other people use that computer, you should change your password, pronto! Some mean person might take your stuff otherwise.

Thank you for taking the time out of you busy schedule to read this rather important (to me anyway) article.
