How About a Skeith? by scarfdance | |
I recently read an article
by saturnsenshikami in the Week 37 Neopian Times, concerning Skeiths.
Well, I suppose it was meant to be concerning Skeiths, but it ended up telling
the reader how it was proof-read by a pet... cute. Anyway, being the Skeith-Lover
that I am, I've decided that Neopia needs to be reminded of some of the good
points of a Skeith.
Cost Effective
Skeiths will eat anything. Whether it's codestones, toys, or real food, they'll
gulp it down without a moment's notice. They'll even eat PetPets. Some people
might say, "That's so terrible! How could you even think of adopting a pet that'll
eat a living creature!" Think of it this way: the Skeith won't eat the PetPet
unless his owner feeds it to him. The same goes for valuable items. Take care
that you don't accidentally feed it to your beloved pet. On occasion, if you
leave your Skeith for days until it's dying of hunger, it may eat one of the
items in your inventory. Many people complain that their Skeith ate a map piece
or a paintbrush.
*burp*
There are two answers to this: either put your valuable items in your safety
deposit box, or feed your Skeith regularly! Both would be great because then
your Skeith will be happy, and the pant devil won't steal your things. Many
people rid themselves of Tombola prizes like bottles of sand by feeding them
to Skeiths. I myself don't do this, because I feed my pets only things which
I would eat myself (out of fairness), but if you're poor, or hoping to raise
the value or such items by discarding them, this could be a more useful alternative.
However, if you adopt a Skeith merely to get rid of your unwanted items, you
shouldn't have adopted it at all. Like all pets, Skeiths need to be loved and
cared for, not just used as a garbage disposal.
Compatible With PetPets
Skeiths are very diverse pets. Unlike pets such as Unis and Kacheeks (I know
I'm stereotyping here, but I'm trying to make somewhat of a point), Skeiths
are equal on both ends of the PetPet scale. By this I mean, there are equal
number of Skeiths who like, for instance, Faerie PetPets, as those who like
Scary PetPets. Long story short, they're not all rough and tough, some are real
softies who would go for something like a cirrus or a Kadoatie.
Misfits
This is not necessarily an advantage, but I see it as one in some respects.
Skeiths are one of Neopia's misfits. Like Zafaras and Myncis, Skeiths are not
often featured in games or shops. True, there is the jelly factory, but this
game plays a lot on the greedy stereotype of the Skeith (which is not always
true. Sure, some Skeiths are greedy, but so are some Chias and Meercas etc.).
To those, like me, who don't always fit into the scheme of life, a Skeith could
make a perfect companion.
Who you callin' misfit?
They're not "all the rage" like Krawks were/are, they aren't famous like the
"Noble Lupe", and they aren't "bubble-gum cute" like the Kacheek or Acara. They
have thick skin, and can take insults without breaking into tears. But they
are also good friends, sticking by their owners and fellow pets through difficult
times. The amount of taunting they put up with from other pets and owners makes
them all the more understanding.
Battle
Like all species, this applies to the individual pet and the amount of training
given by the owner, but all in all, I have found that Skeiths aren't half bad
in the Battledome. They don't come with terrific stats, but unless you're lucky,
most pets don't. But they have some neat Battledome items, and they train well
in strength at the Mystery Island training school. If you take care to well-equip
and train your Skeith, they will seldom let you down.
Like all pets, there are some bad points for Skeiths. They are often ridiculed,
or said to be lazy bullies (most are not), and they could accidentally eat your
wand of the nova (ouch!!), but all in all, they are great pets to hang around.
I hope this article may have given some people the incentive to adopt a Skeith
And a reminder, if you do want to adopt a pet, please consider the pound, because
there are many animals there that need good homes. |
