"Hello, Ms. Uggarian. How are you today?" Mr. Skeethson, a striped Skeith,
sat behind his desk, a pencil in one hand and a notebook in the other.
"I am fine, thank you very much, Mr. Skeethson," replied Kalabarias, or Kally
for short, a very peculiar Chia. Her colour was light brown and her eyes were
blue with a tint of sun yellow. On her left foot was a pink shape of a Chomby.
"I hope you don't mind if I ask you questions right away, Ms. Uggarian. You
are a very interesting Chia," said Mr. Skeethson, placing the tip of his pencil
on his notebook.
"Oh, that's what I came here for. To answer questions. I am very honoured
you want to do an interview with me, Mr. Skeethson," grinned Kalabarias, chuckling.
"Okay, tell me about your family, your life, your childhood," said Mr. Skeethson,
getting ready to write. Kalabarias smiled and a faraway look came into her eyes
as she remembered.
***
"My mother, Samara, was a very rich Faerie Chia who came from Faerieland. Her
occupation, an adventurer. Her job brought her to Tyrannia, where she met a
Chomby, my father, Mannahenasake Uggarian. They fell in love, but they knew
they shouldn't marry. She was royal, a faerie, and he was, well prehistoric,
a Tyrannian. They knew better. But their hearts got the best of them. They stowed
away to the Lost Desert and here I am.
My mother remembered my birth well. She said I was born in Sakhmet, for the
royals took in my mother and father and raised them after hearing they story.
In the Sakhmet Palace, I lived in luxury and was very spoiled. My mother, of
course, already knew the consequences of spoiling a child in luxury for she
went through the same thing when she was young.
Mother made us move out of the palace and settle in a adobe brick house just
right outside of the Sakhmet walls. My mother continued adventuring and my father
got a job at the Food Stall, where he assisted the Grarrl owner. I suffered
a lot. Born into a place of luxury really took its toll on me. I would scream
at my parents and ask them to move back into Sakhmet. I fretted a lot about
the heat, until my father, who got tired of my whining, sent me off to the Mountains
to live with my relatives, Aunt Grace and Aunt Fran.
The school I attended was Snow Valley High. I went there for three years. Of
course, being from the Lost Desert, meant my coat colour was different from
all the rest. I was light brown and had this strange Chomby mark on my foot.
My eyes were also different; I inherited the blue from my mother and the yellow
from my father. The other students stayed clear of me so I was really a loner
in Snow Valley High. I longed for the friends I made back in Sakhmet and I mostly
missed my parents.
I got my usual letters from my parents. My father bought me an Earth Faerie
pendant, for I was born in the month of Gathering, which my father calls the
Month of the Earth Faerie. I wore that pendant everywhere I went until I almost
lost it and decided to put it away for safe keeping and only took it out for
special occasions.
After my years at Snow Valley High were over, I went back to my parents, whom
I learned moved to Neopia Central and bought a two story house there. In Neopia
Central, I attended the University of Neopia for four years and got a master's
degree in medicine. I worked in the pharmacy for a while and then switched to
the hospital and worked as a nurse. After working at the hospital for a while,
I started to long for excitement and found something that interested me very
much. The Battledome.
The Battledome was like a boost up of energy for me. Before I started battling,
I took all my savings and went to Mystery Island and trained in Training School
for eight months. I would've trained longer, but I had no more codestones and
not much NP left. I went back to Neopia Central and worked part time at the
PetPet Shop and sent in poems and stories to the Art Centre. I received about
5,000 NP from the PetPet Shop every week and for every poem or story I sent
into the Art Centre I received between 100-1,000 NP With that money, I bought
Battledome Items and trained with them in my parent's cellar.
After a year of training in the cellar, I was ready for the Battledome. I first
fought the Chia Clown, for I heard that he was the easiest. Fortunately, I won.
Longing for more, I healed myself and fought him again, finding out that he
got stronger. I fought him six times in one day, winning every battle. I got
tired after the sixth match so I returned home.
Every day after that, I worked my usual hours and wrote stories and poems,
but I spent most of my time at the Battledome, fighting One-player battles.
After two months of One-player battles, I started looking for other pets to
battle. I sat reading the League reviews for hours, copying down names of pets
who have won. When I was done, I looked them up and Neomailed them, challenging
them. Most of them accepted and I found myself coming home with bruises and
cuts and slashes.
My parents, who were worried, told me to stop for a while and sent me on a
trip to Tyrannia (My father's suggestion) There I stayed with my father's parents,
Granny Uggama and Grandpa Uggapa. I learned a few Tyrannian words and learned
their ways of living. I played games like Destruct-o-Match and Tyranu Evavu
there. I learned how to master Kacheekers and became a daily player of GoGoGo!
I collected Tyrannian Weaponry, which really got my grandparent's mad because
the fire items nearly burned down their home. Like a regular music fan, I bought
tickets to the Concert Hall and watched groups like Chomby and the Fungus Balls
play.
After I left Tyrannia, I learned that my parents were on vacation in the Haunted
Woods (What were they thinking?) Like any loyal daughter might do, I followed
them. I learned that they were living with that scary little Cybunny who owns
the Spooky PetPet Shop and went over to visit. I found my parents all right,
but I was very disgusted by some of the PetPets. I know that's mean, but you
should look at them. I admit, some of the are cute but others are drop down
weird. The Slorg and Grackle Trap sent shivers up my spine and Sludgy made me
faint.
Trying to get away from the Spooky (literally) PetPets, I took daily quests
from the Brain Tree, Esophagor, and the Witch. I started collecting Neopets
Masks and played the Haunted Woods games like Fetch and Korbat's Lab quite well.
When my parent's vacation ended, they went home without me because I was hired
by a very special magician to aid to the ruins of Maraqua. The special magician
was Kauvara. I met Kauvara while I was playing Kauvara's Potion Game. I got
very close to getting the right result until I accidentally added some Moltenore
Essence and blew up the place. Kauvara congratulated me for getting so close
and asked me if I wanted to aid her on her expedition to Maraqua. Of course,
this was a chance of a lifetime, so I said yes. Kauvara said she needed to collect
some Maraqua seaweed and coral for a new kind of potion she was going to make.
We traveled to Maraqua by Kavaura's private transport (being known has its
rewards). As we reached the spinning whirlpool, Kauvara tossed in one of her
potions to make the whirlpool slow down. We put on our scuba gear and dived
into the whirlpool.
At first, I thought this trip was going to be a failure because I kept spinning
around in circles in the whirlpool. Kauvara helped by spraying something on
me that repelled the cycle from reaching my body. We both swam to the very bottom
of the whirlpool, where Maraqua had once been.
It was like walking over millions of pieces of metal. Actually, I was walking
on millions of pieces of metal. Nothing remained of Maraqua except litter. Kauvara
automatically swam over to some seaweed and coral and I looked around the place.
It was desolate, sad, and cold. I saw some pieces of NP on the floor. They
were rusted and had a picture of a crowned Flotsam on it. Picking them up, I
tossed them into my waterproof bag, like an archaeologist does when he finds
artifacts. The rusted coins made me want to start a coin collection.
After Kauvara finished collecting the seaweed, we swam up to the surface and
climbed up the ladder her private plane threw down.
After that expedition, I stayed with Kauvara for a while, learning the art
of potion making and watching other Neopians play her Potion Game and laughed
until tears rolled on my cheeks if any of them blew up their potions. I knew
I was rude, but I couldn't help it. The person who blew up the potion would
laugh too. After three weeks at Kauvara's, I went back home, to Neopia Central.
Back at home, I started my coin collection. Along with the Maraquan coins,
I collected some prehistoric Tyrannian coins and went back to Sakhmet and the
royals (who remembered me) were eager to give me some of their ancient Desert
coins. Before long, my collection grew and I had them stored in the safety deposit
box my parents bought me.
Two years passed and nothing exciting happened to me. I went back to the part
time job at the PetPet Shop and took night shifts at the Hospital as a nurse.
I continued sending in poems and stories and once my article made it in The
Neopian Times. I only battled in the Battledome when I had extra time to be
spared and I seldom laughed. That's when my parents bought me Galant.
Galant was a Doglefox. He was playful, happy, and made my life brighten. He
helped me in Battledome and would cheer up the patients in the Hospital. We
went everywhere together. I bought him a Halloween PetPet Paintbrush with my
savings and painted him. He was cuter than ever and though he didn't look it,
he was as sweet as apple pie. Ever since then, my life came back and I was my
normal self again. That didn't last long. One night, my parents had a major
fight. The next day, Mom was packing up and moving back to Faerieland. Dad was
also packing up, to go back to Tyrannia. I didn't know which one to choose.
They've been together like forever and now they were splitting up. Decided that
I am grown up now and that I don't need my parents in my life forever, I decided
to stay in Neopia Central in the house my parents bought.
The house seemed so empty without my parents. I wanted to fill it up again,
but could a pet adopt another pet? Galant was the one who gave me the idea.
He was playfully ripping up the pages of a book called 'Daycare Centres of Neopia.'
I would start a Daycare Centre.
I paid 300,000 NP to place my 'Kally's Daycare Centre" ad up. I passed out
fliers and went to shops asking the owners if they could post up my poster.
Before I knew it, Neopians were at my door, leaving their pets and their PetPets
in my care. Since I had a cheap fee (100 NP per Pet, 50 NP Per PetPet), I had
a lot of customers. Before I knew it, my house was full again and I was happy.
But I was still home sick. I missed my parents so badly. Putting the Daycare
Centre in the hands of my friend, Kauvara, I took Galant and my bags and flew
to Faerieland.
I looked around for my mother's house, and finally found it. It was a huge
palace with a humungo lawn. I walked through the golden gate and knocked on
the door. My mother surprisingly answered and saw me. She started crying. She
took me in and introduced me to her parents, Wayne and Lane, and her brothers
and sisters, Brian, Joe, and Phimie. I also saw my mother's two oldest sisters,
Grace and Fran, whom I stayed with while at Snow Valley High. I stayed at my
mother's place (which was called 'Feracha Manor') for two months before I packed
my bags again and visited Dad.
Dad was also happy to see me. So was Granny Uggama and Grandpa Uggapa. I got
reacquainted with the Tyrannian Games again and stayed in Tyrannia for at least
four months. Before long, I got homesick for Neopia Central and traveled back.
Home, I saw that the Daycare Centre was well and Kauvara took good care of
it. Putting myself in charge again, I resumed my regular life. Nothing exciting,
nothing boring. Just lived a normal life. Until, I got a call from you, Mr.
Skeethson, and flew all the way here just for an interview."
When Kalabarias finished, Mr. Skeethson was smiling.
"Interesting story. Interesting life. Interesting," said Mr. Skeethson, rubbing
his fat chin.
"Is that all you can say?" laughed Kalabarias.
"Yes, thanks for coming for the interview. Goodbye, Ms. Gella," Mr. Skeethson
reached over and shook Kalabarias' hand.
"You're welcome and good bye," smiled Kalabarias, getting up and leaving the
office.
