The Faerie Scoop by horsechicklet | |
Few know much about the magical beings who shaped and govern Neopia. Oh yes,
most Neopians love Faerieland,
the city in the clouds where the faeries make their home. Tourists from all
over Neopia clamour to take advantage of the Healing Springs. Dozens over owners
take their pets to spin the Wheel of Excitement every two hours. And yet, the
truth about faeries remains hidden. Little facts about these creatures lie strewn
here and there, but are never pieced together. So who are the faeries?
There are six types of faeries.
Earth, air, water, fire, light, and dark faeries exist for each of these elements.
Each of these types has one leader, an Uber Faerie. Uber Faeries are human sized
creatures, but often take the form of small faeries. They are immensely powerful
and control all the faeries of their element. These smaller faeries are tiny,
and though they possess magic they are not nearly as strong as Uber Faeries.
They are often captured and bottled by the faeries' mortal enemy, Balthazar,
and sold in Neopian shops. If you buy a faerie and release it from it's bottle,
it may bless your pet, depending on your pet's level and how many faeries of
each element have already blessed it. Once a faerie is set free, it roams the
world doing good or evil, getting captured once more, and serving its Uber Faerie.
Many pets have had run-ins with faeries. Take for example, KiwiBonk.
KiwiBonk is an exceptional Aisha who happens to be friends with the Uber Fire
and Dark faeries, as well as the Faerie Queen herself! My own Gelert, Jade Twiliyte,
was given the ability to fly without wings after she morphed into a Gelert out
of an Uni, by an air faerie. Hopefully that story will be in The Neopian Times
soon. These so called "run-ins" are how we learn more about the faeries. While
a few faeries have specific jobs, most faeries roam the lands, blessing pets
and ensuring that no evil seeps into Neopia.
The only exception to the statement above is, drumroll, Dark Faeries. These
small purple creatures are both good and evil. Although the Uber Dark Faerie
serves the Faerie Queen, she often goes on evil escapades with her millions
of minature minions, wreaking havoc on a handful of Neopians' lives. In "An Eventful
Week" clumsy_17 tells the story of how her four pets went on
an adventure and were held hostage by the Dark Faerie herself! Do not be afraid,
however, every time the Dark Faerie's evil side gets the best of her, the Faerie
Queen is sure to restore peace and order.
Faeries do not sit around idly all day as many Neopians assume. In fact, they
are quite busy! The Uber Water Faerie spends all her time at the Healing Springs,
healing pets who were bettered by the Esophagor or their rivals in the Battledome.
Jhudora, a particularly nasty dark faerie, spends her time giving Quests to
all Neopians who wish to own Jhudora's brushes and lollipops. The Soup Faerie
lives a simple life, giving up riches to instead feed the poor 24/7. The Faerie
Queen herself is kept busy running The Hidden Tower, a store hidden in a tower
in Faerieland where Fyora the Faerie Queen sells great battledome artifacts
of amazing power. All of the Uber Faeries and Fyora also give quests randomly
to unexpected Neopians. One kind Earth faerie sells faerie foods, another petpets,
and a dark faerie sells books. The Battle Faerie displays her skills against
some of the strongest pets in Neopia and the Snow Faerie lives in the winter
world, paying any Neopian who will find her specific items. No, my friends,
the faeries are not idle.
But--well, how did the faeries come into existence? No one is exactly sure.
However, there are many tales of the shaping of Neopia, many of which MaxKanine
tells to his siblings in tdyans' excellent story, "Legends of the
Seasons". All we know is that faeries have been around for a very long
time, and they played an important role in the creation of Neopia as we know
it. |
